I have an idea! Instead of the hallway ending, there can be tiles disappearing to the point where they need to jump from tile to tile. When they get to that point, they decide they should turn back, and THAT's when they run into the magical dead end.

Hmm...that's cool...and building on that...what if perhaps instead of a dead end, they run into a door of some kind and on the other side is @Carina's character.

Oooh I love those ideas! I wasn't able to reply until now, but that seems like a great way to throw @Carina's character in. I do think it would be fun to make it seem like something even worse is going to appear, though - I'm just not sure how we could do that. Maybe the door locks behind them and the room is totally dark? They hear something moving around and start panicking, but then it's revealed to just be Mari when she starts talking.

Also, I'm going to work on a post now!

Making it seem worse does seem like a good idea...and I think that one would work. Maybe Mari could even be lugging a heavy bag or something that make them think its a monster stomping around there?

I definitely have a few ideas to get Mari look way scarier than she appears I might do this in a two-part post just for the suspense tbh lol
