Want to have fun and exercise your abilities as a poet? Good, 'cause I want to read more poetry. Sign up and we both win!

So here's the deal:
This challenge is going to be set up in rounds. Every seven days, a new set of paramaters will be posted for that round, and you have that much time to post your submission. There will be no eliminations- anyone is free to join or leave at any time.

Rules will include things like theme, the incorporation of certain words, structure, etc. I have a mixed bag prepared.

This is a personal challenge, not a competition, so there will be no judging involved. Just enjoy the process, and then post your submission or a link to it below, and have fun reading others' attempts. Conversation is welcomed- please note that once posted here, your poem will be open to comments. You're also welcome to ask for a bit of feedback, but no full reviews, please.

Challenge begins May 16 and has no planned end. The rules of the first round will be posted then. If you're interested, sign up below.

Sign me up!
When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.

Welcome to Round One!

Allow me to present to you a demonstration. We know that every conceivable topic has already been written about multiple times- yet each work remains unique, because each one comes from a vastly intrinsic mind like no other. So here we shall display this concept by giving everyone the same starting theme.

Your first challenge:
Write a poem based on the word "ghost."

Deadline is Friday 5/22. Post your poem or a link to it here to submit your work.

Grab the popcorn
We're watching a show
Mow the lawn
Or it'll be used my moles

There it is
The springtime ghost
How does it look
I didn't bother watching it go
Why didn't you?
Thought it would be white as the snow.
So you did see it?
No, it didn't care to show
Itself, I'm guessing it was scared.
Why would it be scared?
Why don't you go find out?
Definitely not, I'm too scared.

You have your answer now, don't you?
You don't care about the ghost,
Just about yourself.
The name's Myth.

“Ghosts Don’t Cry”

the sun has been in a coma
for quite some time now,
and the sky has been strangled
by a thick, black smog that is suffocating

my house is a dusty, webbed coffin
with not a single window or crevice,
so my cracked skin has forgotten the touch
of the forgiving fingers of light

i look into the splintered mirror
and i am almost invisible -
my body is fading into shades
of tombstone grays and overwhelming nothingness

there is nothing left of me to save;
my bones are beyond repair,
and no amount of electricity
can restart this smothered heart

i bury myself in torn sheets
and tangled webs. as i lead
my own lonely funeral, not a single tear
threatens to fall from my bloodshot eyes.

ghost, girl

i watch your eyes
skimming past me,
seeing through me.
ghost girl.

i’m the grey of
indecision, inbetween,
the unknown.
i’m not known because
no one cares to know.

and you,
dear you,
even you tell me
i look like i could blow away.
you look like you might not
notice, anyway.

i know i’m a girl,
not a ghost,
my name registered on
school rosters and government forms,
but

even standing
dead center of the room,
it’s like i don’t exist.
ghost girl.
