Is the entire Odyssey crew dead/soon to be dead except for the MCs we've created? Is the Federation captain certainly dead, since Xino is already the captain of the new escape crew? How big is the escape crew?

Not everyone is dead, but they can be if we can't find everyone we need. Yes the captain died in the crash. When you first meet Xino she won't know really anything, including how to use her vocal chords for communication. At the end of the week she'll have learned enough to lead the group- I believe. The escape crew is only as big as we make it, or as small. It would be generally smaller than the average crew because of deaths in the crash and afterwards.
