In other news, my brother is now playing Omega Ruby extensively again (he spent like 100 hours when he originally got the game just playing it, and now it seems he has to returned to add to that already impressive amount of time), and was successfully able to trade this Cobalion he'd tried to trade off for years for a Hoopa.
Which would be fine if he didn't stop bragging about it. <.<

Actually, I totally GET why he's bragging about it - especially considering how much of a fan I am of that Legendary - but he'd be better off trying to defeat the battle Frontier in Emerald - said game being harder than Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby. THEN his bragging would be more justified.
Also, a Hoopa owner traded it for a Cobalion? That's... Wow. That is NOT by any means a fair trade XD

Well, I do have to agree with you on that matter; Hoopa is awesome, so some of his bragging is justified. But yes, it would be more justified if he did a harder challenge for a change. Of course, when it comes to battles, I'd say he's only semi-proficient (especially as all of his strategies revolve entirely around offense, which means that, in theory, I could beat him if I rout his strategy and leave him defenseless), and even a mild challenge would be most likely to destroy him. Besides I don't really mind his bragging anyway; I've made similar trades in the past, and he can only brag for so long before he gets bored of doing it and/or focuses on something else, as is the case right now. XD
And yes, I can't make any sense of the trade either. Who in their right mind would trade a Hoopa for a Cobalion, which, while impressive, isn't as imposing as Hoopa? And this is nowhere near the first time such a strange trade has taken place. For instance, somebody once traded their Jirachi for a weak Thundurus I offered them (perhaps my best trade ever), and my brother also once traded a Lv. 97 Mewtwo to get a Lv. 100 Mew. A Mew.

I guess a guy who already has 3 other Hoopas in his PC. That's the logical explanation.
Also, um... That Thundurus trade is actually decent - competitively speaking. Because Thundurus pounds Mew any day, at any moment of the week. Even without using his Origin form - he's THAT powerful. Same for the Mew/Mewtwo Trade - if the guy already has another Mew, he'd trade a lv100 one for a 'Mon that's actually much more enjoyable to use in battle - AKA Mewtwo.

Well, I suppose that's understandable. And yes, somebody who already has 3 other Hoopas wouldn't exactly mind giving one away, that is true.
Beyond that, I suppose my reaction to those trades, which, if you look solely at the power of the Pokemon, would otherwise seem irrational for my brother and I to have done, is because of I've always based my trades less on the particular power of what I am receiving and more so the rarity of what I am receiving and whether or not I have it, as well as whether or not I like it. After all, my brother and I are consistently aspiring to try and acquire every single legend and all Pokemon - including the Mythical Pokemon, hard as they are to get - and so I've always found it a little odd when people conduct trades in such a manner that is different from how I conduct them. Namely, the trades that I have just discussed.
Of course, it is not as though I disregard power entirely. For instance, I had two Thundurus when I did the trade, and I gave away the weaker one because I wasn't willing to give up the stronger one, which I felt was much more powerful and had trained for some time, and wasn't about to give it up for anything. The same goes for my older brother when he traded the Mewtwo; he certainly has a stronger one, and he was unwilling to give up that stronger one. Too, I am willing to conduct a trade if I feel as though I can receive a stronger Pokemon in the process.
Thus, I suppose it can be said that I, to an extent, value rarity over power. At least, some of the time.

I have some personal issues surrounding my girlfriend going on right now, and I have no idea when it will end (or if it will end well). That I can understand. Personally I only started caring about a Pokemon's potential when a particular character of Yu-Gi-Oh GX introduced me to the following mentality: "even if I only have trash monsters in my deck, I guess all I ahve to do is figure out a way to maximize their potential." ^ Since this, I respect Bidoof a lot XD (especially since the day mine learned Super Fang via countless breeding experiments and used it in a Trick Room team to beat up enemies. That day... That day was funny)
That aside, yeah, that's all a different of mindsets, really. Even if I perosnally had three Mews and one of them avalaible to trade, I would really, REALLY hesitate upon actually doin' it. You don't get 3 Mews everyday, after all.
Heh. You better not. But yeah, I get where you're coming from. Personally, I value power - or rather potential - over rarity. If I get a magnificent Legnedayr or Mythical that can't exactly fit my style of battling, I can't really use it, sooooooo.... yeah. Useless. I'd rather have a Rattata equipped with F.E.A.R. than a Mewtwo I can't use.
Especially considering than a Rattata equipped with that setting actually destroys a careless Mewtwo in about 2 hits. Which is always hilarious to watch.
@Charizard821 ...Oh. Oh my. I... don't think I have any comforting words for that kind of problem. Guess I'll just hope for your problems to end well - and hopefully, they won't hinder you emotionally. Or at least not too much. Cheers, man. Focus on that personal matter, it's more important. And I'm pretty darn sure Riley would agree!
