A lot of the authors say that agents are saying that YA works over 100K are instant rejects, even for fantasy (which tends to be longer since you have to do world building too) so I am nervous! But also, agents tend to seem a lot more sympathetic to authors and encourage authors to send their stuff in anyway, since if it's slightly over word count, they will work with the author to bring it down... which is slightly encouraging? But also the entire process is admittedly nerve-wracking. XP
On one hand, I don't want to get bogged down in editing this down without even knowing if it's publishable. So I know, intellectually, that I need to need to send it in and see what response it gets. But on the other hand, if it automatically gets disqualified for being too long, I will hate myself for not even trying to get it trimmed down first. (I don't mind working with an agent to trim it down... but like, I want to snag that agent first!)
Anyway!
For yesterday, I eliminated a subplot which just had a... lackluster ending, and that got rid of almost 1000 words! So I am at 107.4K words right now!
I have several other plans for revisions too... I've been going through the ending again. I changed it up a bit last time I went through it, so I want to make sure the changes I made are solid. I've already made a bunch of notes of what I would like to do based on my rereading... so hopefully that helps me get it slimmed down even more!
