Holiday Senryu Contest

Image

Introduction

Holidays are made by people. As such, you will find lots of material about human beings to write about this holiday season. Senryu are poems with the same syllable structure as the haiku, 5-7-5. The difference is, where haiku tend to be about nature, senryu are those 5-7-5 poems that focus on human nature: what people do, what we're like, and our "follies". They are also comic poems - poems that tend to make you laugh or crack a smile.

Your challenge for this contest is to write a sequence of three senryu about the holidays.

You can read some examples of senryu here and here. The three senryu may be related to each other, or not at all.

Rules
1. Please keep content family friendly! Ideally, it should be something like a joke you'd be comfortable telling your friends on this site.
2. Please submit by the due date~
3. Enspoiler your submission and post it in this thread.

Prizes

1st - 100 points

2nd - 75 points

3rd - 50 points

Special Prize Categories

As a tie-in with the YWS Best and Most awards, this contest will also award the following prize categories besides 1st, 2nd and 3rd:

Most Colourful (Or Colorful) - 25 points + mystery avvie edit

Best Snowperson Chic - 25 points + mystery avvie edit

Best *firework crackle* Vibes - 25 points + mystery avvie edit

The names of these categories . . . are up to interpretation. Be creative! For example, you don't necessarily have to write a senryu about snowpeople for it to have snowperson chic. A senryu that fits the vibes of the phrase 'snowperson chic' might very well make the category!

Here's my entry! Hope it's sufficiently holiday enough!

Spoiler
the powdered sugar
atop birthday lemon bars
puffs up as I blow.

multicolored lights
twinkle, like small candle flames
for two holidays.

sugar clouds the air,
my friend's face white with sweetness.
I laugh, then I cough.
I was born to speak all mirth and no matter.

Spoiler

the smiles never last
but the heart is always glad
to see a smile, once

our eyes admire lights
strung across the sky tonight
yet, we never fly

clad in red and white
he flies above the rooftops
with the brightest smile

(smile and smiles are only one syllable here btw. re-reading this, i'm pretty sure smile is two syllables, so is it okay if it's just one?)
they told me to never give up on my dreams.

icing, as she decorates
the sugar cookies -

if she cared, she'd say
this is much too sweet. but it's
different with sprinkles.

(blazing colour like
flame-shaped memories that no
one forgets all year.)
When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.
