Peer review is how YWS has worked since 2004: writers read each other’s work and leave notes that help with revision. It is not a star rating or a paywall — it is a community habit of paying attention to someone else’s words.

Publish when you are ready
Post a poem, story, or chapter on the literary shelves. You control visibility — public pieces can receive reviews; drafts stay private until you share them.

Find work in the Green Room
The Green Room highlights pieces that have not received feedback yet. Many members review there first, then share their own work once they have contributed to the community.

Leave thoughtful reviews
Good reviews name what works, ask questions, and suggest revisions without rewriting the author’s voice. Comments on specific lines beat vague praise — and kindness is part of the culture here.
Reviews vs. quick comments
Literary works support longer reviews tied to the piece, while forums and walls use shorter replies. Both matter — reviews help with craft; comments help you stay connected.

You do not need a quota to post, but reviewing others is the fastest way to find readers for your own work. Start with one piece in the Green Room, then share yours when you are ready.
