Police violence obviously doesn't discriminate based on age. Current example? The student protests in France. Students as young as 14 are being tear gassed, flash banged and physically assaulted by Police. The latest update is nothing but shameful and rage inducing. The Paris region alone has recorded 1,260 arrests. Police say 86% of those arrested are minors. On October 5, in Lens, a 15-year-old boy lost his hand after picking up a stun grenade that law enforcement officers used to attack protesters. Another has a broken jaw from been shot point blank with a grenade launcher. He is 14 years old. A 16-year-old teenager lost an eye after an officer shot him in the face with a rubber bullet. The good news is, the adults have stepped to their side, including the unions. October 17th, coincidentally (or maybe not) the date for the next No Kings is supposed to mark another massive day of protest for France. What's the future hold? France has a large history of protests, which mainly have only succeeded when the whole of French Society has risen up. To succeed, the students need a lot of support.

Themes of murder and other political stuff. I know this is the anti-facists club but i still wanna keep somewhat within community guidelines.
    Spoiler
Yknow, i dont personally have anything against democrats or republicans, but it’s hard to stay neutral when one side actively tries to threaten my life. My first exposue to american politics was during the trump v clinton 16’ race and i was old enough to know that I supported abortion rights, but young enough to think that “we need to build a wall” was unironically kinda funny.

Fast forward to 24’ when i got my f1 visa and was excited to study in ‘murica,
Trump got voted as the forty somethingeth POTUS…
At first, i didnt want to make any rash statements and tried to see the positives, but it’s pretty hard to find them when you have news about Ice agents in your campus ARRESTING PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU. Sure, some of them might have criminal records, but how does a DUI justify shooting people? How does having a gun for self defence make you kill them?

One of the funniest yet saddest moments was when i was walking around downtown and i was talking to my gc, and they said ‘hold on, tell [stereotypical white friend] to go with you.’ Because cities with ICE spottings are genuinely that unsafe.

That doesn’t mean that the democrats are good. Theyre two sides of the same coin. Just… one side thinks people like me shouldn’t exist.

They're pulling out the hunger games type shit to make people normalized to the government executing people in public

Today war criminals and murderers, tomorrow political dissidents, a tale as old as time to desensitize the populace, create fear of state, and stir national fervor.

I am struggling to find yws-able words to describe how i feel about this blatantly false accusation.

. My post is still there btw, where did I intimidate you? You made a false implication and i corrected it. I am still open to debate btw, I suppose you're not a fan of "facts and logic" when it's applied to your own viewpoints

haven't made a post in a while because of life xp

mainstream media is trying increasingly hard to divert to culture war right now by creating some WNBA trans athletes controversy that was resolved almost 2 years ago, and doing their absolute best to find every sliver of slightly problematic news that they could use to "cancel" progressive candidates, when in reality, progressivism & socialism (despite a ton of minor setbacks) is flourishing in the US.

(i thought the rational and reasonable opinion to hold on that is pretty simple, hereby: 1. who gives a fuck, this literally affects nobody at the moment and 2. we are talking hypotheticals upon hypotheticals upon hypotheticals 3. this conversation quickly escalated from one interview and trans people in sports to the existence of trans people altogether, which is NOT okay and also incredibly bad-faith, and 4. it is practically impossible to create a trans-exclusionary sports policy without excluding cis or nonbinary women as well or just women who don't conform biologically or physically and finally 5. if we're just talking about high school college sports, genuinely who CARES except for some butthurt parents? the odds of you going pro are so miniscule, just enjoy the damn sport! i've rowed with trans people before and nobody cried wolf or raised a massive protest about it-)

I've seen so many false equivalence (DSA = leftist MAGA, socialist = communist), etc, thereby creating a 2-party horse race again and furthering a gap in the DNC. i was especially shocked to see a USA Today opinion blogger bringing back the old "nazis were socialist" argument to try and imply that socialists will take control of the government , notwithstanding that one principle of socialism is to allow for indivdual freedom by holding those who try to restrict it and commoditize it accountable, AND that histocially, the Nazis used the name of socialism (a tactic described by multiple german historians) to elevate theur party, although in reality they explicitly opposed socialists/leftist immediately prosecuted socialists & SDP (social democrats) before any other group, making said commentator's implication incredibly and deliberately misconstrued.

    What else?

it means progressives are starting to deliver wins to their communities and the general democratic party is losing their grip on establishment candidates. It means that voters are sick of the same old recycled neoliberal policies, and want true social change, not just empty words of affirmation. If it's true that leftist candidates will fail, you would think they wouldn't try as hard to stop them. notably, of course, i don't think there's a catch all. the democraitc party is a big tent party, so it's not unreasonable to imagine that those more fiscally conservative democratic candidates can keep holding down the fort in more purple areas. Still, it's certainly never a long stretch to imagine a progressive dem winning in a mixed area -- take a look at james talarico and abdul el-sayed's senate campaigns, for example, both in historically red or purple states that have been ravaged by redistricting.

I'm asking because I'm curious, What is yall's opinion on ICE? I'm personally nuetral so far because I don't look into politics a whole lot. But from what I've seen, I tend to agree with alot of conservative views. And hello I've been gone for a while.

idk becuase we're a coalition but personally, abolish end concentration camps, and fold into the rest of the legal operations into DHS, which needs a huge restructuring. i don't think we need a gestapo-ish force that more and more deviates from its original purpose as an enforcement agency to serve as the president's own militia, which given recent executive orders it is increasingly becoming an extrajudicial organization that comes after any minority group that dares stand against this admin and is also mostly consisted of untrained skinheads (shows under 48 hr training, which is unacceptable for law enforcement). dhs should handle criminal, not civil cases (i.e. if someone is fleeing the law by coming into the US or intends to commit crimes in the US)

it's also worth noting that we caused the immigrant crisis by either refusing to interfere or interfering too much with LATAM & Middle Eastern affairs (country dependent)

    serrodyne replied · May 2

there's a pretty well documented trend of extremist groups like the proud boys or US white nationalists promoting & joining ice bc they have put out tons of white supremacist-inspired propaganda (there's an online archive somewhere)

Honestly, ICE is a product of the aftermath of 9/11. Before 9/11, ICE didn't really exist in the capacity it does today. The war on terror began an endless cycle of meddling in the middle east, which we had already been doing before 9/11 happened. And because of that meddling, we had a spike of migration to our borders, and we were like "holy crap that's a lot of middle eastern people who we think of as terrorists because racial stereotypes" and so ICE became much more militarized. They've evolved from strictly a border force to something much scarier and much wider. They've received a budget that is equivalent to that of a small military force. That's way more than your average big city police department like the NYPD gets. That, with the lack of training and even worse background checks (We have multiple cases of agents who are seen being violent being identified as being involved in domestic abuse, sexual abuse, ect. These people should never be hired as law enforcment if they can't even control themselves around their own wives). This and the fact that they can't seem to follow proper law enforcement protocols like not standing directly in front of a vehicle (something cops are told NEVER to do) during a traffic stop or shooting at a moving vehicle (shooting at a moving vehicle places bystanders in harms way of gunfire but also a vehicle). I'd also like to not have the detention centers (some privately run by contractors like geogroup) that are currently operating be shut down or put under heavy oversite from a non-dhs affiliated board. Phone booth sized cages is inhumane. Not to mention lack of food, water, working bathroom facilities, heat, blankets, ect.

If you don't know where you're going, any road'll take you there.
