This is an unofficial contest for The Animals Society! Entering is easy, just write a poem! But it can't be just any poem, there are a few requirements...
1. It has to be about an animal. (preferably your favorite animal or the animal you're named after, but that part is not required)
2. It has to be something that anyone can read, so please nothing rate 16+.
3. You have to learn something new! It can be about the animal, about poetry, about the animal's habitat, anything! It just has to have something to do with the poem.
4. Be original. Yes birds singing is a lovely topic for poetry, but it's normal. Write about how your dog digs, or what it must be like being a pet fish (and having food randomly rain down on your head), or about how sheep are the perfect example of a mild-temper.
5. You can only enter one poem.
If you'd like some examples you can see my two poems, Horton's Egg and The Cat's Joy
The deadline is May 31st.
Judging will be public. I will open a poll, it will be open for one week. Whoever gets the most votes wins. Depending on when I get the poll up, the winner should be announced some time between June 8th and June 14th.
To submit your entry I would prefer you post it as a literary work, and then put a link here. If you don't have the points (or don't want to for some other reason) you can post it as a reply to this topic.
Regardless of which of those you do, you must tell me what you learned. I don't need a complete description of it, just "I learned what a villanelle is" or "I learned there are __ species of snakes in England" will work just fine.
Now, what we've all been waiting for, the prize...
Two reviews by me. I may award a review to runners up, if I have time.
There is one requirement for the reviews. I make an effort not to read anything rated 16+, so you can't request a review on anything rated that.
If someone else in the society would like to contribute to the prize, please let me know right away!
Also, if I have time I will try to give a short review to all entries. If you want you are allowed to revise your entry. Just make sure that you reply to this topic saying you are going to/have revised your entry, and then post a link to it (or post it). All revisions should be turned in by May 31st.
Good luck! And happy writing!

Great idea! This will be fun!

My phone won't let me, when I get on computer I will.

Notice!
There's been a prize change!
The lovely Cheetah has donated some points. So there will now be a second and third place, with slightly different prizes...
First Place: Two reviews and 300 points.
Second Place: One review and 200 points.
Third Place: 100 points.
(all reviews are still being done by me) -
I have submitted a poem:
The Final Hunt
It is, of course, about wolves. When writing this poem, I learned the importance of rhythm. I hadn't given it as much thought before. I can't wait to read some great poem entries about wonderful animals! -
I edited my previously submitted poem:
The Final Hunt -
Alright, I know time is wearing down, but I'm working on it xD I am definately not a poet, by any means. This is taking longer than I thought it would...

You can do it!

I finished mine but I need to review some more before I can post

-
I edited mine again.

So this is my poem:
Koala's Climb
It's not the best and I literally wrote this in five minutes. (I had a competition with two other people to see who could write and post a poem before Review Day started 5 minutes later).
I did learn that Koala's sleep usually between 17 and 18 hours per day. -
Thanks for entering Wolfare! I would review your poem, but it looks like the other reviews have already gone over everything I have to say. So no point in reiterating them.
You and Wolfie have such wonderful poems! I can't wait to see what other entries we'll get.
