  3. Yo.
    Spoiler
    “Wha-”

Lylatt followed his aggressive deflection with an armored high kick straight to Valmond’s exposed stomach, utterly unconcerned with the storming power swirling around Valmond and interrupting his exclamation. As he was lifted further in the air by the kick, Lylatt revealed the item in his hand and shoved it on the ground before him: the Thunderstrike Tempest, an orange sphere decorated with spikes that sunk deeper below as Lylatt grabbed his Vile Venospada once more and slashed Valmond on his way down. The ghostly blade that always followed struck the young man a second time and he violently hit the ground.

Let him counter, dodge, punish. Following his thought, Lylatt watched as Valmond, impressively, managed to pick himself up and, while on one knee, performed a lateral cut while a powerful squall followed.
Lylatt leaped behind Valmond as he extended his arm, then pivoted just enough to counter with a vertical strike at the young man’s back. The ghostly slash that followed hit the wings, and when Lylatt hit him a second time, Valmond rose and turned just enough to parry the blade using his own.

Great. Lylatt thought to himself before pushing against Valmond and jumping back to give himself some distance. Valmond, meanwhile, took this time to float again, just as the Thunderstrike Tempest at his feet opened a mechanical, cyan-colored eye. The very next moment, an electric vortex detonated from the item, and Valmond could only look down as he was sucked back to the ground while electricity raced around every corner of his body, stunned and locked in place both.

Neat. Shame I can’t add some Quills, but what can you do. Lylatt thought with a light chuckle before quickly sheathing his Vile Venospada, grabbing his Obsidian Obelisk and connecting it to his Golden Gryphon (a slot at the back of the latter permitted that). With a larger discharge of pulse than before, Lylatt drew his fused weapon — Irate Igniter — and, thanks to the pulse he’d already loaded the gun with, fired a combined charged shot immediately after.

Having timed his combination, Lylatt watched as the gilded avian construct flew to Valmond just as the Thunderstrike Tempest below the young man ended its vortex with a final burst of electricity, quickly followed by a collision of the gilded construct with Valmond’s body. As he hit the wall behind him, the bird’s shadow released clawed tendrils from the ground, which converged against Valmond and splashed against him in a miasma of darkness.
Without waiting for the darkness and light to clear, Lylatt expertly removed one gun from the other, placed both in their respective holster and, as he reached for his Vile Venospada once more, Lylatt performed his impossible leap, green energy trailing behind him as he crossed the distance between himself and Valmond until his blade’s serrated edge touched the latter’s neck.

“That should be all,” Lylatt said calmly. “Feel free to prove me wrong now, with a surprise I may not have anticipated.” a chuckle. “I am quite fallible.”

No reply followed. Then a, a sudden blue light thundered from within Valmond’s clothes, and finally covered his entire body — an undeniable proof that the vitaspark had activated, and that the sparring had ended.

Valmond coughed, laughed, then raised his arms above his head in surrender. “That’s how you’re calling all this? Fallible? That’s stupid.”

Lylatt chuckled again. “I see your point.” He took a step back and sheathed his Vile Venospada. “Apologies: I didn’t mean to imply I wasn’t strong. Mostly, I’m very interested in not becoming arrogant.”

“That’s fair.” another cough, then a sigh. “Man, I’m glad all this was reduced damage. Um, how did I do?”

Lylatt nodded in approval. “Very well. It’s obvious you lack experience, but I expected as much. Still, there’s a lot you can already do and I have some gushing to offer later, I promise.”

Valmond grinned. “Alright! That’s good, at least. Can I maybe go get Aporia now?”

“Of course! Go right ahead. He’ll be fine in a moment.” As Valmond ran to reunite with his metal friend, Lylatt gazed at his own support unit silently floating beside him, sending a pulse ray towards it.

Before the dream of awakening comes the reality of rest

Then, as Bampaia came down to rest at the center of the armor’s back, Lylatt chanted:

The First Mark — Dusk on eye’s light begets deep sleep and gears to turn

The Dread Defender’s neon green eyes lost their glow, and soon after, all four of Lylatt’s chosen arms ceased to be. The shield itself followed, and the Emerald Dread was once again weaponless.

“It worked!” Valmond exclaimed from afar.

Lylatt gazed in his direction, noticing that the blue light around his body spread to Aporia (now resting in his partner’s hands).

“The vitaspark remains active for about fifteen seconds,” Lylatt explained as he looked up, watching the dome of light he’d summoned previously vanish quietly in reaction to the vitaspark’s activation. “During that time, you’re empowered. As Aporia is directly linked to you, he shares your rejuvenation if you touch him during that time.” he walked towards the duo, looking at them once more as Valmond turned to face him. “It took me a bit of time to realize this. I can tell Aporia isn’t quite your summon, but something similar.”

“Got that from the sparring?” Aporia asked in return, apparently still grumpy.

“Yes. Especially my pulse gauge — when I concentrate my pulse into a harmless light that phases through you? It lets me analyze things.”

“Ooh, so that’s what that was,” Valmond said. “A radar.”

“In essence.” Lylatt looked at Aporia. “How are you feeling?”

Aporia nodded slowly. “Fine. Could’ve done better, but fine.”

“I know what I’m like by now, so, I understand the sentiment. Once we get to that truth-talking you wanted, I hope to at least give you some valuable insight for combat adjustments later.”

Aporia’s antennae resumed their endless movements as he stared on pensively. “Yeah,” he eventually said. “Yeah, I’d like that.”
