welcome to my kashmir

Welcome to my KASHMIR.

In case you are a non kashmiri reader, let me gist Kashmir in one line:

“that part of world where people only like two things, one taking things on credit, and two sitting idle on shop fronts!!!”

No. You cant.Well, I want to. This isn’t your job, there are already heaps of articles written about Kashmir and you are just a cuddly 19 year old( please don’t burp on that one.)My mind addresses an imaginary audience, and I am caught in between the devil and the deep sea.

There is an adequate stuff already written about, I always yearned to be an outliner.

When the Kashmir intifada started, I was not even born, though I have a chip on my shoulder and that is being born in early ninties, (though I have an another chip and that is I am a Burn Hallion,)

.They say we are the children of conflict, yes indeed we are.

I don’t want to dig deep into history and distort the facts that lead to eruption of armed rebellion.

Some say it was the rigging of elections in 1987 and some say it started when  Ejaz Dar was shot while attempting to shoot AM Watali(an officer in Kashmir Police).

Whatsoever be the cause, but it ensured the end of peace  in my valley.I am not saying that all the present turmoil in valley is because of militancy ,but that there could have been a far better way out. I don’t know whether the rebellion was a revenge to rigging of elections or for “a greater purpose”which even after two decades hasn’t served any purpose, but yes  you wont find a place where you can place your foot in martyrs graveyard .Courtesy:MILLITANCY.The youth were diven by a frenzy to wear green clothes and place a Kalashnikov on their shoulder.this was one side of the coin, others emerged as IKHWANIS or paid informers as you call them.this signifies that there is no and was no unity among us and if all goes well our future gen will not lest us down. That is why it is damn easy to slam a kashmiri down.

“Oh! Treachery is embded in their DNA,”says my friend from a foreign country. I found myself battling for words when it came to answering him. Perhaps he was right, or maybe wrong.

. Welcome to my Kashmir, where a leader asks youth to protest against the men in uniform, someone please tell him to sneak out of his lavish mansion and see that same men are guarding his house ,welcome to the place where we criticize policicies of New Delhi  and find ourselves spending our winter vacation in posh malviya nagar like locality, welcome to my place where a top notch economist ,heading the states only listed company, finds himself kicked out for reasons too weird to write, welcome to my place where things of historical importance find themselves (out of their own will,)Instead of a toshkhana in someone very specials bedroom ,where a leader refuses to inaugurate a mall just because he finds that his own division which already has twice the size of the very mall, has been neglected and what was hat word, yes …discrimination,,,,, And when the rural people vote you say its just for sadak, paani and bijli and when city dwellers exercise their adult franchise, you shave their heads off!

Welcome to my Kashmir where newspapers act like governments spokesperson, and dare you, you think out of box, you will find a parcel bomb addressed to you.

Welcome to my place where one leader says majority want plebiscite, and other says majority wants merger, which hides the basic fact: how can you really tell, dude!!!

Where an IAS topper and shoe hurler become instant celebrities, while the former is yet to start, the latter disenchanted the people, who chanted “Teri jaan, meri jaan….”well. Whatever.

Welcome to my paradise where a budding footballer is denied a passport because his kin had been related to armed struggle and where the supremo of the armed struggle finds a Pakistani visa affixed to his passport so that he could marry. Mind you, there aren’t good girls in Kashmir, that’s why we cross the border, and also the sex ratio has dropped to some 886 per 1000 males. I told you no, we are helpless, but to find our better halves across the border.

Welcome, to the place where people, protested against the policies of Zia Ul Haq when he ordered the execution of another Pakistani leader Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and when Zia Ul Haq died in a plane crash, the same people took to streets mourning the demise. Crazy???

Welcome to the place which produces the best saffron in the world, and if you are happy because you just purchased some, then I am sorry, because it won’t be genuine, we are too smart people you see.

I HAVE MUCH MORE,BUT THAT WOULD BE TOO MUCH………

Nevertheless, coming back to our topic i.e. Kashmir ofcourse,I personally believe that the people who took matters into their own hands some two decades  have miserably failed their own people, not to talk of people from other parts of globe.

Kashmiris were born with a curse, and history stands testimony to the very fact.

P.S I am not taking a dig at anyone, but still if you think that was attributed to you, well, mission accomplished ,I made a Kashmiri  introspect.

Dapyov mea baali yaaras ,kanh chu aabaad kanh chu vearaan,

Tem dopnam emi seeth chem kaem nearaan”

Welcome to my Kashmir. Welcome…..

Interesting!
hello and I'm Puck ( a Bangladeshi, we tended to get away from Pakistan but it seems,on the basis of your piece, that you guys are still in trying to dash towards it, ha ha...)
anyway, according to me i thought this as an interesting essay.
Non Kashmiri People when asked about Kashmir usually give this shrug and tell you its supposed to be heaven on earth but hell for the people in it and follow the statement with descriptions taken from a Salman Rushdie book.
i don't find that cool and you showcased that fact very vividly.i really thought it was clear, fresh and straightforward. you put in a good deal of history in it in a very short amount of time and it would grow to be more precise if you elaborate the statements a little more. the repetitions to welcoming was, in my view both a bit exuberant yet slightly towards the edge to create cliche, if you know what i mean. maybe if you form those welcome in a more formulated way it might go away.
at one point you pointed out a pointless thing about the leader and then added your comment saying : how can you really tell, dude!!!
it created a smugness that i loved but i think one exclamation mark is enough and the others just make it amateur.
the same goes for this :... the same people took to streets mourning the demise. Crazy???
i know a little Hindi and the ending really seemed cool
in all, i really loved this piece
thank you
hope this would help
