Does anyone else notice how screwed up our world is today?
Maybe it's because I live in America.
Maybe it's because I'm still young.
Maybe it's because the only thing I ever watch on TV anymore is Spongebob, who knows.
But I'm sure the world isn't as nice as we make it out to be.
We live in a place where kids believe the police are corrupt and pointless, but the first people that are called when an emergency happens are those same police. Yet these kids would swear on their lives that the police are no good. It hurts me to see the men and women who risk their lives on a daily basis being cursed at by those same people they're protecting. It hurts me when I see kids take the sides of criminals, just because they know them, and then try to make the police look bad. And honestly, it's hurts me when I see the police helping those same people, the people that would stab an officer in the back just as easily as they would ask them for help.
I was watching the news the other day (a nice break from Nickelodeon), and saw that a little girl was murdered for her bike. Her bike. What a twelve year-old girl was doing riding a bike alone is beyond me, and obviously that means the parents take some fault in this, but no one that young should be out unsupervised. She was led by two boys offering to give her bike parts to a house where she was then robbed and murdered. I didn't get past that much information before I shut the TV off with anger. The thought of a life being taken so young for something so petty really makes me so much more sad than angry, and it makes me pretty angry. I always get mad when I hear about people having premature deaths, whether it be by murder or sickness, but nothing really hits me like when it's a child. I always get emotion when a child dies, no, I don't get emotional because they die, it's alway the reason that gets me. There's always some crazy reason that leaves me seriously wondering what went wrong with society.
But what happens happens, you can't change the past (until they finish that time machine of course), right? Wrong. We need to remember the past more than we think. More so in the case of women. Yes, women. Those lovely specimen us men like to drool over. Remeber when they fought so hard to be considered equal to us men? Us 'superior' beings? I get it worked in some ways. You can vote, you can work, you can own your own property, but are you really considered equal? Us men being the douchebags we are today would tell you we love you just as easily as we would leave you for someone prettier. Today I read a post on my facebook newsfeed stating (translated into proper-ish english for your readability) "You two are like my brothers. You shouldn't be fighting over this [female dog]. These [gardening tools] are everywhere, no reason to be fighting over one. You could always get another one, all they want is your [male reproductive equipment] anyway." Besides questioning the type of friends I hang out with, it made me wonder, is that all women are to men today? Gardening tools? I guess you won equality in one generation with one type of men, now there's more equality be gotten towards a whole new generation of 'men'. Of course, the women of today can also have some of the blame shifted on them for this. The behavior of some pre-teen 'ladies' today is disgusting. After being raised by awful parents, and by a society where the quote posted above is a socially accepted norm, I can't say I expect more. What really troubles me, though, is how unconscious of the situation women are. While it's not to the point where there should be protests and riots just yet, it is definately a rising issue. Maybe I'm exaggerating just a little, just maybe, but I still think it's a problem, and the sooner it's fixed, we can work to fixed this messed up society we live in.

I think everyone can feel this way ... I mean, I live in Canada, but I feel this way too. And, I have to say I'm glad for the society I live in, because as a female, I can have an opinion, and express it, too. Whether or not people accept it or allow me to express it is another thing completely.
But when I was reading fourth paragraph, I thought of a statement I'd told to my mother during a rant of my own: The term "gentleman" doesn't exist. Or, at least, not that I've seen. Very few men that I've associated with have actually acted as a "gentleman" would have in the past--be it holding open a door, or letting me step into class ahead of him. Just a kind gesture -- one that was learned inherently by parents. And while I can still say that some where out there, there are a few boys and men who have the qualities and act accordingly as a gentleman might, I don't think I have ever met a girl, my age, who I would call a "lady". Some are close--but most are just vain. Is that what being a lady really truly always was?
Anyway, I digress. This is your piece, and I commend you for expressing your opinions. We all need to do it -- and for us writer-types, its always so much better written in word. And for those of us who realize the wrong that we see everyday, we can right it. It's just a matter of going out of our way to debunk the current reputations, and start building up the old ones that used to exist, but modernizing them for our progressing society -- if that's the term we might use.

And honestly, it physically hurts me if I didn't do small favors for people, not necessarily females. Things like holding the door open, picking up your dropped pencil, even turning the TV on when you're too lazy to get the remote come as second nature to me.
But thanks again. Maybe you're right. If we see the wrongs, we can right it.
That was extremely truthful, and I can't agree more. Women today are seen by most- I can't say everyone- as sexual objects. Violence is running rampant and we need to stop it, especially when it comes to violence agaist children and teens. And this society really is screwed up. I have to say that this is the most truthful and raw post I have ever read. I agree copletely with everything you have to say and that we need to do mre to change it.

Me too. I really wish that people would just stop to think about what they're doing instead of just doing whatever they want. If people would stop and think, society would be a whole lot better than it is.
Yep, I wonder how many people feel this way about our society now as I am one of them that does. I see plenty of posts on Facebook of people my age or younger doing stupid stuff like a person posted a picture of herself smoking Maryjane and I thought to myself how stupid she was, A to do it and then B to post it online for everyone to see. I think your right about how men of today treat women as well, I consider myself the exception though and try to treat everyone as an equal. I liked the first part on how you said "Maybe its because I live in America" and "Maybe because I'm still young" as I can relate to that. I agree with you that there are kids who will side with criminals and not the police because they want to be "cool" or be popular. And I feel angry and saddened at the same time when I read the part about how a little girl was killed for her bike. And the final thing I wanna say is like Denia I have mixed feelings about "But I'm sure the world isn't as nice as we make it out to be." I agree that the world isn't perfect but there is still good people and good things out there. Sorry for going all over the place in this review, keep on writing man.

Love how you said "Maybe it's because I live in America". I personally dont live in North America and TOTALLY agree that growing up in America seems quite empty.
"But I'm sure the world isn't as nice as we make it out to be." This line I have mixed feelings about. Dont give up on the world yet. give up on people in the spotlight, everyone with a bit of power, but not people. The world too, its amazing. Seeing the light hit the ocean in the afternoon, green grass, I promise just get out of industrialized places, you wont regret it.

You surprised me. I really did think you would start down that typical path of "I hate the police man they dont know shit". The fact that you didn't saved this whole essay. I agree with you but for controversies sake some police are very corrupted! But I guess that all depends on where you live and again its always a small percentage.

I commend you I applaud you. You recognized something very obvious that many people should be able to see :\ and no one quite does. Woman honestly are DEGRADING themselves to the highest level. If its bad where I live, I dont even want to imagine it in America. The way you worded everything in this paragraph was sublime and I loved it. I would even go far as to say that its us girls fault that the men are talking about us like this. We act like virginity is NOTHING nowadays (Yes I did just go there) and being with a guy is now something of a cool factor although I dont see why because, doing what these girls are doing will not earn anyones respect. The way many men talk to women they dont respect is taken by the woman as flattery for some reason. Did that make sense? I dont know.

Glad to know you liked what I wrote, and I appreciate that I was able to surprise you. I was trying to very general with my statements, like MOST police are good people, and MOST guys don't act like men, I definitely don't mean all.
