Poetry

In Poetry

Poetry is the apple tree in my backyard-

sturdy and strong,

dependable.

Yet, when the winds blows

it can

bend,

twist,

change-

giving forth new fruit-

ripe and delicious.

Poetry is that one sliver of an eggshell that falls

into the bowl

that you can never quite grasp.

It’s always

just

out of reach.

Poetry is the way that all over the world

people are listening to the same song

on street corners

in living rooms,

enjoying it

whether or not

they know the meaning of the words.

Poetry is the way the night sky

stretches on and on

and even when there is no moon to see by

I am never in the dark

because the stars

will always shine down on me.

Hello, Ruby here for a review :)

I think this is such an interesting idea for a poem- one about poetry. Not something that you see too often, but when executed properly it's always fantastic because any poet could relate to it, just like I did :)

Okay, so the metaphors you chose were all really great any could stand on their own, but when weaved together like this it tells the complete story of all that poetry can do, and be. To start, the one comparing it to an apple tree is really accurate in describing how easily a poem can be affected by all its outside forces. I like the words you used, 'bend', 'twist' and 'change'- because you could apply all of those even to the processes a poem goes through when you're writing it. Also, just like you said, poetry is a giving tree, always providing with new subjects and ideas based upon this constant change.

I thought the one about the eggshell was funny because it's just so true. It may not be as strong as the tree metaphor, but it's accurate all the same.

My absolute favorite was the last one, in which you compared it to the night sky. That potential for endless possibilities is so enticing. And the image of a moonless, star-filled sky is simply breathtaking. Stars are often used to be symbols as a guide, and poetry guides so many people through life every day.

Overall, I thought this was a terrific poem about poetry! I look forward to reading more from you :)

It's pretty good, just it feels just a bit too short; I recommend you to put some more words. This is really beautiful, though, and the metaphors are really impressive. Your title could be better... (You could use these: "The meaning of Poetry." and "Like an apple tree."). Other than that, you did quite good on this (I don't have much to say about this). And if you improve, I would defiantly like to read your future writings!

Thanks. Ill take that into consideration. I appreciate the time and effort you took to write this.

You welcome.

Well, I'm here to give a review! At first glance, the title is fitting and straightforward; two traits I find most appealing. And as I moved forward to read your work, I was most surprised. I'll be honest when I say that I wasn't expecting to be interested much in the text. (It's nothing personal, I'm just not big into poetry. I wrote a poem, but never really got into actual poetry writing.) I was pleasantly surprised to be very interested in your work. I love your metaphors. They're beautiful, to put simply. Though the poem was long, it didn't feel like I was reading a massive chunk of text. I think you've described poetry most effectively, and I hope you continue writing in the future.

Thanks. That was really sweet. I appreciate it.

I love love love this so much.. You describe poetry beautifully in a very simple way. I really like the metaphors.

Thank you. That means a lot.
