Is Nessecity Still The Mother of Invention??

PreviousNext

Hi friends,

Just ask yourself, except from sleep & office ,in what way you are spending most of your time with??

(fb,mobile,tv,chatting ETC right??)

I can understand the intention behind this question at the end of this article

What mainly differentiates a man from animals is that,a man has evolved his personality and has invented several devices for his benefit, If, however, we study this point from another angle, we’ll realize that all progress has been possible because of longing for things and his necessity to do, achieve and have certain things.

When a man needs a thing, he tries to have it. He adopts the methods of beg, borrow or steal. But these methods are valid and applicable only if the object desired and required already exists. But if man just imagines an object that he needs and requires for any purpose, he has to invent or discover it.So the famous quote “ NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION “ has been originated.

As the people’s lives evolved, as so the driving factor for invention has shifted from necessity to COMFORT. For eg. previously aim using “X” Phone ,now iam shifted to “y” ,merely because of more comfort,as a matter of fact a basic phone also can fulfil most of my desires connected with phone.my mom once said that all these comforts are making us lazy, and physically not as sound as our ancestors. ohhh !! this is a new perspective...although i managed to escape from argument by saying that we are mentally more matured when compared from our previous generation.but this though is still disturbing.

However, what is interesting is that although the quest for comfort has propelled us to incredible heights of inventiveness, it does not mean that the modern world is a less difficult place to live in. We have the flushing toilet and we know how to dispose of all kinds of waste but it hasn’t made the world cleaner; we have the ability to store food for years and to transport it over hundreds of miles, but we haven’t been able to eliminate hunger; we have access to the most advanced methods of healthcare but they aren’t available to everyone.

Finally what i wanted to convey is we should not fall as a prey for laziness & escapism in the mask of enjoying comforts.we should clearly determine the extent to which a good or service is to be used in our daily life.one of my friend said that “ We can’t recognise our stupidity when we are in group of idiots”. HE IS RIGHT. Now a days it has become so difficult to judge whether we are enjoying comforts or habituating laziness, because every one around us are dealing with the so called comforts.

USE ALL MODERN INVENTIONS TO UR BENIFIT,NEVER LET THEM TO USE YOU.

This is my opinion on shift in criteria of invention.
This may not be a absolute fact, but it is analysis from my view point.
thanks for my mom is the reason behind my idea.
Thanks for Alvin tolfler for providing inspiration with his book "Future shock"
although there are minor mistakes,i don't feel that they are going to disturb the soul of the article and i will try to rectify them in future

This is a great article.

First of, you do a great job of keeping it in essay form, as most good articles should be. This gives us the information we need to make a decision, but does'n just overwhelm us with unimportant facts.

"As the people’s lives evolved, as so the driving factor for invention has shifted from necessity to COMFORT."

I can't express how much I agree. I'm tired of having to hear about the new I-Phone 5, or the Blackberry S, or the tablet that also counters as a blow up circus. People wast e to much time, and to much money on getting the newest and the greatest, and it's gotten so bad, that now you have to follow suit, otherwise all of your technology goes out of date and doesn't work.

You bring up a lot of other good points, and convey your thoughts very well.

Thank you sanjeev4puli!
