Handsome prince who lurks after twilight,
I’ll dance with you. I’ll dance with the devil.
Sinner, sweet sinner, teach me to dance.
We’ll dance and woo, but my gown will disappear.
When the hands of the clock align vertical
You will see that I am only a peasant girl.
Prince of Darkness, will you follow me out?
Will you parade the town with a shoe
Still warm from the foot carrying me away?
If I run away, I want you to pursue me.
Should you not, in a tomb your fair maiden shall lay…
...If I run away.
Take me to your palace, your homely place.
If you don’t mind the soot on my face.
I’ll resurrect your stagnant heart
If you exorcise the demons in mine.
Make this peasant girl your bride.
See that she is the princess you danced with
The evening before tonight.
Not even your resentment for Aiden
Can surpass your love for I, the fortuneless maiden.
Dark Prince, who prowls like a black cat,
Summon forth the unclaimed shoe.
I can assure you it fits.
No foot shall fill it the way mine does.
My dirty clothes and tangled mane,
My broken heart and my blood stained soul
Make up the princess you came to know well.
Make me yours, and take me to hell.

Wow, it's been a long time since a poem hit me as hard as yours did. I agree with everyone else on the imagery front. Such powerful images with so few words. It takes skill to do that and you have skill, certainly. At first glance, I thought some of the lines, especially with the demons and hell, may have seemed a bit too extreme but no, I do find that they fit well. Your grasp of language and hidden meaning is beyond me, and that's a good thing. Please write more. And when you do, let me know ^^
This is beautiful. I too have had that thought that Cinderella's deeds were of the evil sort. If you have ever read the original Cinderella not the Disney one, you would see that the wonderful fairygod mother is made out to almost be a witch. Cinderella's way of getting the prince is cheating in a way. I love your point of veiw and word choice. PM me if you post anymore ok?
Hey there!
I have to admit that I did enjoy the imagery and some of the questions that were asked here and the poem kind of became a very artistic use of language. However, my personal opinion was that I wasn't quite attached to this poem emotionally and I felt that I should've been. I think an improvement would've been to take the concept of cinderella and try and manipulate the language so it effected your readers in a way that they come away thinking, "I've experienced that." Do you know what I mean? I think it just lacked that little bit.
However, overall, hats off to you. This is an extremely well written poem.
Ben
It was written beautifully, and I'm not being biased because I LOVE the story of Cinderella.
Hey there.
Wow. Such strong, vivid imagery and it flowed brilliantly! *clicks 'like'* It has such a dark twist to the usual Cinderella story. I love it! I couldn't help smiling while I read it.
Thanks for making me smile and for such a beautifully dark and twisted poem.

Hi.
I have just one thing to say about your poem-Wow!
It was beautifully written and gives a deliciously dark twist on the much-loved, if a little worn out, classic.
Your imagery was strong and the poem flowed really well. It's so nice to see proper punctuation as well!
I really loved your poem.
Please PM me a link to any thing else you put on here as I think your poetry is beautiful.
Thanks for the read.
As a hardcore fan of Cinderella, I will tell you know that I was quite impressed with this poem. You've got such vivid imagery, and when I read it, it is as if the movie was coming alive in my mind. However, I don't really understand why you've made out Cinderella's actions to be demonic. She didn't think that what she was doing was wrong, and the prince certainly wasn't evil. Also, why was this poem in italics?
Anyway, this was some very nice work-it is definitely one of my favorite poems here on YWS. Do me a favor and PM me if you post anything new, alright?
Cheers,
Elinor
