“Hurry, we are going to be late, Wake up”

“Yes, am going!!”

It was 7: 00 o clock in the morning of a hot summer day in Arizona, it was one of those the days when the sun shines and the whole atmosphere is full of joy since the hour the bright sun rises, which is usually pretty early and most of the people enjoy watching such beautiful moment of peaceful nature around them, embracing them with its soft breeze, but Alyssa Ross was still asleep. Alyssa was a fifteen year old girl who had some trouble obeying everything she was told, especially when it came to waking up early and going out with her sisters. People were always saying that perhaps something was wrong or twisted in that dark haired head, or they just said she was totally insane. And those opinions were reinforced by the fact that she was the only one, in the whole state of Arizona that wore a black turtle neck in a summer day.

“Hurry, you are always the last one to get ready” called Jennie, her little sister who was 10 years old.

“Oh, my God Aly, come on, we are going to be late” called Tiffany, her older sister. Tiffany was the cheerleader prototype, beautiful dark hair, huge hazel eyes and a supermodel body. According to Alyssa, Tiffany was one of those 1 in a 100 cases of intelligent cheerleaders, the other 99 were just, cheerleaders. In fact, Alyssa couldn’t hate Tiffany for being a cheerleader; she was her sister, so she was obliged to love her. She was a pretentious, selfish and annoying cheerleader, but above all, her sister.

Finally, she got out of bed, took a quick shower, put on the first she found and got out of her bedroom. Standing in her door, were her sisters, with those demonic faces they made every time Alyssa made them lose their time. Those two were definitely not one of the people she wanted to see first when she woke up. But now everything and everyone were ready to go, and spend some well deserved vacations at the beach. To be a little more exact, they were spending their vacations in South Beach at a house they bought about two or three years ago, when, as some people say, she was still normal and the whole family was together.

“Is Alex Coming, mom?” asked Jennie as she was putting her stuff in the car.

“Oh, yes he is, he’ll meet us there”. Answered Mrs.Ross. Alex was Tiffany’s twin. He had lived with his grandparents in California this last three months; he wanted to experience being independent. Alyssa didn’t really see how he was experiencing being an adult if he still lived with her grandparents and they gave him absolutely everything he wanted. If that was being an independent adult, she couldn’t wait to be one.

“Ok, family, are we ready to go?” asked Mr Ross with his extremely deep voice.

“Yes!” answered everyone at the same time.

“Alright then, let’s get moving” answered Mr Ross sounding as excited as a three year old boy when someone gave him an ice cream. Unlike Alyssa, who thought that doing this was worst than a medieval torture.

And with those last words the trip began.

The trip was long, tiring and a little boring, sitting in a car for about 2 hours with an unbearable heat and her two irritating sisters was not something to be happy about and with a black turtle neck it was like being baked in an oven at 250° Fahrenheit; that was clearly worse than a medieval torture. Alyssa couldn’t take it anymore, the heat was awful, the shirt itched everywhere and she was getting dehydrated by the extremely high temperatures and the stupidly hot shirt. Suddenly, her breathing became a little more irregular. The environment was so warm that it was impossible for her to breathe.

“Ally, Ally are you ok?” asked Tiffany when she heard her sister gasping for air.

“I can’t breathe” Said Alyssa, still not breathing right and looking as pale as 200 years ghost.

“Stop, the car” Demanded Tiffany.

The car was stopped and Alyssa was taken out of the car. She was pale and sweaty and could hardly breathe or speak; she only said that she needed to take off that shirt. Her mother calmed her down and took the shirt off, her arms and neck were red from scratching and the sweat just made it worse. They waited until Alyssa could take some air and drink some water. When she finished, they hit the road again.

“How could you were a black turtle neck, above a camisole?” angrily inquired Jennie.

“Oh, shut up “answered Alyssa. She totally hated when her sisters thought they knew everything, especially when the little fifth grader thought she knew everything and asked her things that she didn’t really have to care about.

“Know what? She’s right, a normal person wouldn’t have worn that on a hot summer day, but as I’ve said before, you are special, little sis” Tiffany said mockingly

“Umm, maybe you are right, I am special. But, you know what? At least I don’t look as cheap and hussy as someone else in this car whose name I am not allowed to mention”

That was the last drop the cup could hold, another “war” had begun.

“You’re grounded, did you hear me? GROUNDED”

“Whatever”

“OH, shut up”

“Whatever!!”

Those were everyday screams in Alyssa’s house. Her sister just couldn’t stand the way she was and Alyssa couldn’t stand her at all. So in these vacations, they hoped everything was going to be different. Tiffany would be hitting in all the boys in south beach with her cheerleader friends, Jenny practicing her gymnastics and swimming 24/7, while Alyssa stayed home with her brother, practicing guitar riffs or just listening to their crazy loud music.

They finally arrived to their beach house. The house was a two story house with huge gardens in the front of it and a swimming pool in the huge backyard. The gardens in the front of the house, were full of daffodils and lilies; the gardens in the back, were beautifully made of white and red roses, surrounded by pink carnations and a perfectly cut green grass.

THE house was painted in yellow and orange with beautiful white windows. From two of the front windows were hanging climbing plants, that looked like curtains over the yellow wall.

The house had that strange colonial grandeur that made it look unique and incomparable, it was perfectly built and it had a tremendously beautiful view of the sunsets and sunrises at the beach. Sometimes Alyssa thought it was way too beautiful, for a beach house, it was way better than the one they had back at home.

They got out of the car, extremely tired and worn out, the only thing they wanted to do was take a shower and go to sleep. But as they got out of the car, a taxi was arriving. It was Alex.

Alex was tall and handsome, his hair cut in big brown locks that somehow accentuated his beautiful amber colour eyes. The first thing he showed to everyone was his lovely warm smile that lighted up the room every time he came in. He was a little introverted, and quiet but very intelligent and charming.

“Alex!!!” shouted Alyssa. She loved him more than she loved herself or anyone else. He was the one who taught her how to play the guitar and he bought her first electric guitar in her last birthday. She thought he was the only one that understood her and cared for her at least a little bit. That didn’t mean they didn’t fight, they did, but not as often as tiffany and her. Besides, he was gorgeous, his hair was dark, kind of brown, his eyes were lighter than anyone’s in the family and he was so charming.

“Alex, I thought you weren’t coming” said Jenny as she jumped to his arms.

“Hey, Jenny. Tif, hey. Alyssa, what’s up?” he was charming, but not loving. He didn’t really like showing affection in public; he rather hugged someone in private. Although, he didn’t like showing affection in public, he sometimes forgot his rule with Alyssa.

After greeting each other, they got into the house. The inside of the house was as beautiful as the outside. The walls were painted in beige, and it had portraits on them.

The furniture was very luxurious. The kitchen was elegantly put together, the wooden doors were perfectly carved and the rooms were gracefully ordered.

They were finally inside their beautiful home, and sitting in their comfortable sofas, when suddenly, Mr Ross started talking. For Alyssa, that was the least opportune moment to start talking, everyone including talkative Tiffany was enjoying the silence.

This better be important, but very, very important. Alyssa thought.

“Guys, your mother and I have an important announcement to make” said Mr Ross

“Alyssa is adopted” shouted Tiffany, and burst into laughter. Annoying.

“If you have nothing good to say, just shut up, Tiffany” Demanded Mrs Ross

JA, ja, ja. I won. Now who’s grounded hu? Sucker. Thought Alyssa and let out a little smile while thinking it.

“Your father and I had decided” There was long uncomfortable silence.

“That…we are going to move. Now , we are going to live here” That was it, the nice comfortable silence, that Alyssa felt like a soft warm breeze, was now over, it had turned into a thunderstorm.

She looked across the room, and there he was, Alex, with his eyes closed and a disappointed look in his face that said Here we go…again.

The whole night had been a disaster. Her parents kept arguing with Tiffany and Jennie about the “new life “ they were going to have and how great it would be, while Tiffany just said the first thing that she could think of and Jennie just agreed with her. Alex was upstairs playing his guitar as loud as it could go and for the first time, Alyssa didn’t want to listen to him. She couldn’t stand all that noise, she didn’t really care if they were going to live in South beach or back at Arizona; she just wanted to sleep and feel the sweet silence of her loneliness as she closed her eyes and flew across the sky and into the darkness of her mind, trying to forget the pain that she created.

thanks for the review and the advice, I really neede it, didn't i? Thanks for the tips, too. And i'll try to improve my writing, lol. I think the other one is a bit better though, unknown. oh, and thanks for not being too harsh.haha.

EDIT: First of all, never bring down your novel just because no one has replied yet. Be patient, someone will eventually reply :]

Hi there :]
I'm Steph and I'll review your story. First, I'll do a little nit picking, like the spelling and then I'll go deeper.

It was seven o'clock in the morning of a hot summer day in Arizona.

This used to be a very long sentence, but it didn't have to be that long. A punctuation sign after Arizona would've been fine. Also, when writing a story don't use numbers, it doesn't look good. Unless, it's like three numbers.

It was one of those the days when the sun shines and the whole atmosphere is full of joy since the hour the bright sun rises, which is usually pretty early and most of the people enjoy watching such beautiful moment of peaceful nature around them, embracing them with its soft breeze, but Alyssa Ross was still asleep.

This is still a long sentence with excessive information like 'which is usually pretty early'. Everyone knows that the sun rises at ungodly hours so that wasn't necessarily to write. I think the sentence could be shortened.

For example: Most people enjoy watching the early sun rise, because of the way it seems to change the whole atmosphere around them, but Alyssa Ross was still asleep.

Something like that would work much better.

People were always saying that perhaps something was wrong or twisted was going on in the head of that dark haired girl.

This works much better than

People were always saying that perhaps something was wrong or twisted in that dark haired head, or they just said she was totally insane.

It was also unnecessary to say that she was totally insane, seeing as that you were already going that direction with the information you gave earlier.

And those opinions were reinforced by the fact that she was the only one, in the whole state of Arizona that wore a black turtle neck in a summer day.

I liked this sentence. It gives humor :]

“Hurry, you are always the last one to get ready,” her ten year old sister, Jennie called.

Words like called, shouted, claimed are never placed before a subject. In this case Jennie is the subject. Also, always place a colon after a sentence is said by someone.

“Oh, my God Aly. Come on, we are going to be late,” her older sister, Tiffany called.

Same thing as before. The first didn't have to be broken up like that by the way.

Finally, she got out of bed, took a quick shower, put on the first thing she found and got out of her bedroom.

You forgot the word, thing.

Standing in her door

This should've been doorway, because you can't stand in a door.

were her sisters, with those demonic expressions they made every time Alyssa made them lose their time.

The word expression seemed to fit way better than faces.

Those two were definitely not the people she wanted to see first thing in the morning.

But now everything and everyone were ready to go, and spend some well deserved vacations at the beach. To be a little more exact, they were spending their vacations in South Beach at a house they bought about two or three years ago, when, as some people say, she was still normal and the whole family was together.

Instead of writing something so tangly as that, you could just simplify it like this;

Everyone was now ready to go and spend some well deserved vacation time down in South Beach. They were going to spend their vacation in a house they bought, two or three years ago when, as some people say, she was still normal and the whole family was together.

Also, instead of them just jumping down to where there car was, you could've written how they went down the stairs with their luggage.
“Oh, yes he is. He’ll meet us there,” Mrs. Ross answered.

You didn't have to break the first part up that way. This'll do.

Tiffany and Alex were a twin. He had lived with their grandparents in California these last three months; he wanted to experience being independent.

I didn't really understand this part. Alex was Tiffany's twin, but Tiffany was also Alyssa sister. Wouldn't that meant that he was her brother and that the grandparents with whom he stayed with were also her grandparents? So this should've been worded differently.

The trip was long, tiring and a little boring, sitting in a car for about 2 hours with an unbearable heat and her two irritating sisters was not something to be happy about and with a black turtle neck it was like being baked in an oven at 250° Fahrenheit; that was clearly worse than a medieval torture.

Try reading that first part out loud and the revised part. It reads a whole lot easier than the first part.

The trip was long, tiring and a little boring. Sitting in a car for about two hours straight in an unbearable heat with her two irritating sisters was not something to be happy about. And it was even worse since she had a black turtle neck on which made it seem like she was being baked in an oven at 250° Fahrenheit. That was clearly worse than a medieval torture.

“Oh, shut up," Alyssa replied, annoyed. She hated it when her sisters thought they knew everything, especially when the little fifth grader thought she knew everything and asked her things that she could care less about.

You didn't have to write totally, as it brought nothing new to the sentence

“At least I don't look like some cheap hussy like someone else I know,” she said, staring at her older sister Tiffany.

This could've been shorter and a lot less obvious like how you wrote it before.

“You’re grounded, did you hear me? GROUNDED”

“Whatever”

“OH, shut up”

“Whatever!!”

It was bit confusing figuring out who said what. At first I thought that Tiffany said it, but I was dead wrong. It was her parents. I understand that you were trying to make this piece powerful with all the exclamation marks and encased letter but that wasn't needed.

“Don't speak to your sister like that, or else you're grounded,” her mother said.

“Whatever,” Alyssa mumbled.

"Did you not hear me Alyssa,"

"Whatever!"

"That's it. You're grounded. Hope you're happy with that."

Something along the lines of this would've gotten the message across more clearly. Now I'm not saying that you now have to copy and paste into your story, I'm just giving you an example.

Tiffany would be hitting on all the boys in south beach with her cheerleader friends,

It should've been on instead of in.

They got out of the car, extremely tired and worn out. The only thing they wanted to do was take a shower and go to sleep. But as soon as they got out of the car, a taxi was arrived.

You keep breaking up the story when it's not needed.

his hair cut in big brown locks

This doesn't particularly say what kind of hairstyle he has. Instead of that you could've said, 'his hair was all over the place' or 'it was neatly combed to the side'. Something more descriptive.

Alex, I thought you weren’t coming” said Jenny as she jumped to his arms.

This doesn't add up, seeing as earlier in the story, she asks if he's coming and her mother says yes.

“Hey, Jenny, Tif, Alyssa. What's up?”

This reads much better.

“Alyssa is adopted” shouted Tiffany, and burst into laughter. Annoying.

I laughed a little after reading xD

“If you have nothing good to say, just keep quiet, Tiffany,” Mom said.

Just know I noticed that you were calling her Mrs. Ross. Aren't Mr and Mrs. Ross their parents? 'Cause if so, it wouldn't be very necessary to call them Mr and Mrs right?

Also, I find it hard to believe that parents would tell their kids to shut up unless they're angry, and it doesn't seem like that in this piece.

JA, ja, ja. I won. Now who’s grounded hu? Sucker. Thought Alyssa and let out a little smile while thinking it.

Tiffany's mother didn't say that she was grounded though, so how come Alyssa's thinking it? This could've been shortened. Something like;

Alyssa snickered as Tiffany got reprimanded by her mother. That'll show her, Alyssa thought.

Something along that line would've been better.

“Your father and I have decided,-” There was long uncomfortable silence. “that we are going to move to this beach house. We'll be living here from now on.”

While there's an uncomfortable silence, what are they doing. What are the expression of the parents and the children. What are Alyssa's thoughts. You could've written something like that instead of just 'there was a long uncomfortable silence.'

She looked across the room, and there he was, Alex, with his eyes closed and a disappointed look in his face that said Here we go…again.

This, I did not understand. Did they move often and if so, why were they always moving around?

---

I liked the story. It was good, a few spelling and grammatical errors but good. I liked the little quirks you gave to Alyssa. Having her wear a turtleneck while it's so hot is insane. I also liked how you started the story with the sun rising but Alyssa not giving a crap about it.

The characters

They characters were a bit cliché though. The two evil steps sisters and little Cinderella and a prince who only has eyes for her. In this situation Tiffany and Jennie are the evil sisters, Cinderella is Alyssa and Alex is the prince except he doesn't have feeling for her because that would be incest xD.
There was no talking about the parents even though they played somewhat of a big part in it. I'd like to know more about them all. I have absolute no idea how they all look except for Adam and Tiffany.
So give them traits, quirks, habits. Something, so that the readers can sympathize with them or absolutely hate them.
