Monopoly

Note: Everything written below is 100% true. XD This was originally written for the 9th Winter Olympics Event; write a short story in first person without using 'I'. Enjoy, and please, don't lock me up. ;P

Me and Myself are wonderful friends. We often play board games together; we’re inseparable. This sounds crazy, we know, but this is what happens when one has no friends, or at least none nearby or with a vehicle. The games between Me and Myself are always pretty intense. They can last for hours, before we both get tired and decide to call it quits.

Monopoly is a wonderful game, even if there's only "one" player. There has been many a night when Me and Myself have played against each other. Sometimes You-know-who joins us. When playing against Myself, somehow the winner is always Me. We don't really know why. One time, Myself landed on Chance on the opening move and was sent to jail. Then Myself got out of jail and landed on Community Chest, receiving a 'Get out of jail free' card. The very next turn, Myself landed on 'Go to jail'. Myself decided to just pay rather than use the card, since no money had been spent yet and the card might come in handy later on. It did, by the way. We laughed very much at that incident later, but Myself personally was not very happy about it at the time. Another time, Me was able to buy Board Walk, Park Place, and Pacific Avenue for under five dollars each! We love auctions…

Me and Myself also play Scrabble often. Words seem to be our thing. We just have a way with them. Those games have gotten intense, too. Me traded letters for five turns in a row one time, trying to spell a certain word. Then Me realized that the word was being spelled wrong—so all those turns had been wasted for absolutely no reason. Me was pretty embarrassed at that.

We’ve tried playing Chess or Checkers, but they never work out very well. We always seem to know what the other is thinking; Me can’t get an advantage over Myself, and Myself can’t get an advantage over Me. At least, not very well.

Me and Myself often have long conversations with each other. We both know English, Spanish, and American Sign Language, and we sometimes switch languages without realizing it. We always understand what the other is saying without difficulty, though. Our favorite place to go on a walk is a little tiny park in a little tiny neighborhood that almost no one else knows about. It’s sort of like our secret place to get alone with each other. Me has always thought that it’s the sort of special place that must be shared with someone; that to go with no one else would be breaking some sacred, unwritten law. So Myself always goes with Me. Always.

We also love riding a bike to the beach, nearly twenty miles away. Me decided to take a camera along once, and was well rewarded. Someone was having a small wedding, and they had no photographer. Me volunteered to take pictures for them, and they agreed. Myself suggested saving them and putting them into a portfolio, just in case Me ever goes into professional photography. Me thought that was a great idea. We agree on most things, though we do argue often enough.

We love each other, and we love each other’s company. That makes boring nights a little less lonely.

If you hadn't said that this was for the Olympics, I would have thought you were psychotic. :P

This was really hilarious! It did get a little confusing because I couldn't decide to look at Me and Myself like to other people or just you... It was a brain exercise, that's for sure :)

My favorite part was the chess/checkers match.

This whole thing was wonderful and I couldn't find any grammatical errors :) Nice job!!

The sentence is right after you get the get out of jail free card :P

I know where it is, but I don't see a typo!

Well it's more like sentence structure. "We laughed very much at that incident" To put we laughed very much is incorrect

That's quite a bit different than a typo. :P How would you suggest fixing it? (Other than "We laughed a lot at that incident"-- if that even is fixing it.)

"Such joy did we received from this incident later on?"

sorry. this was quite a mix up XD

Haha, yeah, it was. And I don't think your suggestion really fits with the rest of the piece.

Random question, are you from somewhere in Europe?

I have to admit, this is definitely not what I expected. The title drew me in, due to the fact I am a board game freak (third class.). However, despite my previous assumptions concerning the nature of the piece, I was greatly pleased, thanks mainly to the original writing style, brought on undoubtedly by the lack of the word "I", which meant every sentence was brooded over, and the whole work thought about more than usual. My only criticism wold be in the ending: It seems too abrupt, as if the work was not finished but had to be submitted to deadline. This may indeed have ben the case, due to the writing Olympics, but you have the opportunity of re-writing.
I hope this helps,
Take That You Fiend!

Indeed 'twas the case. I'm going to re-work this now, and put it into story format. (As suggested by @WindSailor.)

As for the title, I was originally going to have it focus on that particular board game, but realized that it was waaay too short. After looking up the word and finding this as one of the definitions, "The exclusive possession or control of something", I decided that it still fit, since I'm sort of a monopoly of myself. (If that makes sense....)

Thanks for the review!

Yes. The game Monopoly is named after the term "Monopoly", the exclusive possession or control of something, and particularly in buisness, when a company is the only company in an area that sells a particular product. This is replicated in the game, by each "set" being a service, like a hotel. If you have a "complete set" it means that you have exclusive possession and control of, say, hotels in that "set".
The game, at it's original concept was in opposition of commercial monopoly, and included property's like "beggar's lane."
I told you I was a board game nut. This is all stuff I know of the top of my head. :-)

Yeah, I got all that. ^_^

there's some typo's but otherwise its good!

Thank you! I read it over and only found one place where I used a comma instead of a semi-colon, but I couldn't find anything else. Is that what you were talking about, or am I just blind?

*Poof* I'm blind! Your blind! WERE ALL BLIND! XD I'm kidding. Here i show you :3, "We laughed very much at that incident later" Can you find the typo? Happy hunting! *Pop*

I. Can't. Find. IT!!! D=

The problem you <---

How about now X3

woops that came out wrong

My bad I put a post on top that might explain.

I really enjoyed this writing piece. It really does show the intricate ideas and thoughts humans have. I was smiling throughout the work i just couldn't seem to get over the comedy of it all. Well done.

Thanks! I never thought of myself as a writing subject before-- or Me, for that matter. I amuse myself all the time, as I really do play games as Me, Myself, and I. My family gets pretty confused. :P And I do switch languages when I'm talking/arguing to/with myself. Most people have imaginary friends; I just have split personalities. XD

I'm glad you liked this piece!

I'm glad you liked it!

Hello WindSailor here to review your comical story. For not using the word I, I must say this is a well written story. There was enough in it to keep your attention and to make it entertaining. Also, I really love your opening paragraph, it really sets the stage for the rest of the story. Although, it doesn't really feel like a story, more like multiple events all jumbled together into an account of those events, but that is fine. Because it would have been boring if you just kept it on the one event the entire time. Though one thing that I liked, but just seemed to break the flow, was the 3rd paragraph from the bottom. Every other paragraph talked about games, and then all the sudden it is about talking with one another, but I liked it, though I just thought I would point it out. The grammar seems to be fine as far as I can tell, and the way you told the story was great. Good job, it made me laugh a little to myself. :) Keep writing!

Thanks for the review!

How would you suggest that I turn it into a story, then? And since you think the third from last paragraph interrupts the flow, does that also mean that the one after it does, since it's also not talking about games?

Well maybe tell it in a day by day, week format. What I mean is make these activites different things in your day, and add some other stuff in them for filler. For example, you start with monopoly, so start off your day with 'me' waking up, and then heading to the collection of board games to play monopoly with myself or something. Also, a story usually has a plot or something like that, not saying this story has to become serious, but I think it needs something, I am not sure what, but right now it doesn't fit what I think a story would look like. I think if you did that, the third from the last paragraph wouldn't interrupt the flow. This probably made no sense at all.

Actually, that made perfect sense. Thank you so much!
