I often think to myself, “You don’t deserve to be sad.”
I sleep on a nice mattress at home.
I never go a day, desperate for food.
It’s not like I’m dying.
I should have felt relief when my mother told me to come home.
“What is home, mom?”
I should share laughter at the dinner table with my family.
I stuff my mouth in silence because I’ve learned not to ruin the moment.
My mother didn’t want me talking about me dying. She said it hurt her.
But, what about me? Can’t you hear me shouting in pain?
I’m washing the dishes after another night of silent laughter. I’m crying.
I look in the mirror as I brush my teeth. I’m crying.
I turn off the lights and lay on my nice mattress. I sob silently.
I think to myself, “You don’t deserve to be sad.”

Hello, nkaujrainx! I'm Wist and I'm here to review your short story.
Your short story is incredibly moving and resonates with me on a deeply emotional level. You masterfully delve into the complex emotions of the protagonist, capturing the weight of unspoken pain and the internal struggle to find solace. The raw and vulnerable portrayal of the character's internal dialogue is both heartbreaking and poignant.
The depiction of the home environment and the strained family dynamics is skillfully woven into the narrative, evoking a sense of profound empathy for the protagonist's emotional turmoil. The repetition of the phrase "You don’t deserve to be sad" serves as a haunting reminder of the internalized self-denial and longing for acceptance that is constantly denied due to the lack of understanding and warmth in the home.
Overall, the narrative's emotional depth and thought-provoking themes prompt introspection on the complexities of human suffering and the facades we often construct to shield others from our pain. It's a beautifully written piece that lingers in the mind, inviting contemplation of the universal longing for understanding and genuine connection. Amazing job! And if it's meant to be autobiographical, I'm truly sorry. I hope you keep looking for that connection because I know it's out there somewhere. Thanks for publishing; I enjoyed reading.
Happy Writing!

Hi Wist! Thank you for the review, means a lot to me!
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),
Hi! I'm Kate and I'm here to leave a quick review!!
Anyway let's get right to: Kate's Line by Line Reactions;
Well this is quite an interesting piece. That title is quite a powerful one and you echo it doubly so in the piece right at the very beginning and right at the very end. I think it creates a very powerful effect here really tapping into what this is trying to say in this moment.
The emotions you bring out across the piece are quite intriguing. The first paragraph suggesting this person has a fairly nice life that provides everything you'd expect a person to need. It really makes for a bit of a contrast that has you at first guessing what might even be wrong for a statement about sadness to be central to this.
Then of course that next paragraph hits like a sledgehammer as its revealed that our protagonist here is slowly dying of something and naturally that is causing so may complications in their daily life and it seems to some extend everyone wants to hide it too. It all compounds to pain a truly heartbreaking picture there and it all comes crashing down for us as it ends quite fittingly with the line of how this person doesn't deserve all this horror.
Overall a truly heartbreaking little piece, you pack in a lot of emotion in here for something quite this short. Very well done there!
Aaand that's it for this oneee!!!
As always remember to: Take what you think was helpful and forget the rest!
