Winter, Stones, and Roses (new) chapter 1

Hi everybody reading my story. If the name of the first chapter\name of the story sound familiar to you then its because I'm starting the story over in a different writing style. A writing style I'm used to writing in. This updated and slower version of my story should turn out better than the previous version. Happy reading to everybody and please don't be hateful towards my writing style or towards my story in general. I'm not really good at grammar.

Winter, Stones, and Roses

Chapter 1

First Snow Fall

"Snow... stop I can't breathe," Rakeal said breathing shallowly.

Snow quickly stopped and looked at her best friend, Rakeal. She walked over to him and handed him a bottle of water. He was still panting with his knees bent a little, his hands placed on his legs and head leaned over. his hair was a sticky mess, thank goodness for antiperspirant. Rakeal took the water gratefully and drank half of it in just a few seconds.

"Okay, we've stopped about three times already and each time I've had to give you a water bottle. My god, you have got to get into shape!" Snow said giving him a slight slap on the back.

Rakeal tumbled over a bit and said "You make it sound so easy miss track star."

Snow laughed a tiny bit. Snow's and Rakeal's friendship had always been like this. They have been friends since first grade. They are now both fifteen in grade nine. Snow has pitch black hair with white tips and her bangs cover her right eye, her eyes are light blue and her skin is pale white. She wears a size five in pants and a small in shirts. Rakeal mostly wears ripped up jeans and a tee shirt. His pants are size 30 and he wears a size small in men's shirts. His hair is blond with two teal blue highlights on the left side and his eyes are green which are somewhat hidden under his glasses. Snow is five foot three and Rakeal is six foot two.

Rakeal turned toward Snow, who was gazing up at the sky, and walked towards her. He stepped into her view and looked down at her smiling. "Snow do you want to go to my place? Its getting cold out and you only have a sweater on."

She put up her finger and said "I'll go on one condition,"

"And that would be?"

"You have to carry me!"

Rakeal laughed and scooped her up into his arms. She always asked to be carried and it was almost always her one condition to anything. They were half way to his house when he felt Snow's body go limp. She had fallen asleep in his arms, which she rarely did. Rakeal thought to himself, "She must be exhausted. She never falls asleep in my presence." He wonders how she kept on being energetic.

Rakeal entered his house, went into his room, laid Snow on his bed, kissed her forehead, and then ran down the stairs to talk to his mom. She always liked Snow, even when he and her didn't really get along. Way back in kindergarten and half way through first grade. He was so mean to her in those grades and she just wanted to be his friend.

"Hey mom, Snow's here. She's going to stay for dinner okay?"

"Sure I don't mind. She can stay the night to if she wants; just don't forget to use protection."

Rakeal turned bright red. "Mom! We don't do that kind of stuff! I love you, but seriously you have got to know when to stop! Besides I don't think her father would like it very much if she stayed."

"Oh, well that's no fun."

"Mom, I seriously think there's something wrong with you." Rakeal said as he left the kitchen.

Rakeal shut his room door and looked towards his bed. He noticed that Snow wasn't where he placed her. That's when her heard the shower start. He remembered that she sometimes ran away to his house when things got tough at her house so he had gotten her some clothes she could wear.

About fifteen minutes later Snow came out of the bathroom in a pair of jeans and a red and black long sleeved shirt on. She walked over to the bed that Rakeal was pretty much glued to and laid down beside him. He could actually see both sides of her face and both of her eyes. What he saw infuriated him. She had a dark bruise on her right cheek.

"Snow where did you get that bruise? Who hit you," he asked while he turned her face towards him so he could assess the discoloration in skin.

"I fell," Snow mumbled.

Rakeal knew she was lying just by the way she spoke. All he did was gently pull her into a hug. Snow didn't know exactly how much Rakeal cared for her. She didn't know how much he loved her. They fell asleep like that.

"Rakeal, Snow, get up, dinners ready." Rakeal's mother said waking them up.

They went downstairs to homemade lasagna; Snow's favorite. After they ate they both went upstairs. When they entered the room Snow leaped for the remote to Ashton's TV. He won the battle and held it above her and she just stood there. Their eyes connected for a few seconds when Snow finally said "We should watch a movie." looking down towards the ground.

Rakeal put the movie "A Walk To Remember" in and jumped onto his bed next to Snow. Snow got through half of the movie before she fell asleep and soon followed by Rakeal. They ended up waking up in each others arms. Not knowing how they got like that they quickly let go of each other and got up. The clock read 2:30 A.M. and Snow's eyes went wide with fear.

She couldn't go home at this hour; her father would kill her! But how would she get past him in the morning? He was bound to find out she wasn't there for a whole day. Rakeal saw that Snow was worried and lifted her chin up so he was looking into her eyes. "Snow I could give you a ride home if you'd like."

"No! I can't go home now," she said sternly.

"Okay, then you have no reason to be worried. I'm not kicking you out when you have no where to go. Now lets go somewhere."

Snow followed Rakeal to the little waterfall meadow they both found in the woods behind his house. They were the only people who knew about the spot and it was one of Snow's favorites. They both sat down on the ground and just store up at the stars together. It was here that Snow realized her true feelings for Rakeal.

"The stars are beautiful tonight."

"Rakeal, you always say that."

"That's because its true."

"Yeah I guess your right, but I like the snow better."

"Hey Snow, not to change subjects, but would you dance with me?"

"Yes on one condition though," she said putting her finger up like she did earlier.

"Let me guess, I have to carry you back to the house," Rakeal said laughing a bit.

"Nope, you would owe me a kiss."

His laughter ceased in a matter of seconds and the look on Snow's face prooved that she was being serious. That was never one of Snow's conditions. Was she out of her mind asking this? What if she wasn't sleeping when he kissed her on the forehead goodnight? So many thoughts ran through his mind and in the time his thoughts were racing, Snow took it as a rejection. She started backing up saying, "Oh My God, I'm so sorry Rakeal. That was a stu-

"Snow shut up and dance with me!" Rakeal said cutting her off.

At that she got up and danced with him. They danced in silence and Snow just thought, "I wish it was always like this." Rakeal soon stopped and lifted Snow's chin up one last time for that night. Staring into her eyes he laughed and said, "Hows about that kiss now?" And they kissed as the first snowflake of the season fell to the ground.

Snow

the snow may fall

but your my everlasting snowflake

that never melts away

for when you melt

my winter wonderland

will never fall

my happiness will fade

for you

would be no more

Hey There! :D

First of, this has a lot of potential! It's really similar to the way I write most of my stories but I dare not post them here... I'm a bit too attached to them to let others read them...

Yes, you're right, the grammar isn't top quality but that's why you posted here! For crazy people with nothing better to do to help you get it right  . I agree with #FF8000 ">Snoink, it's nice to let your characters grow through the story rather than have the reader know the whole pie before they've even tasted it. But again, that's why we're here, to help! :D

I've found that the best way to write is to forget grammar and spelling until you run out of steam. Then go back and edit. That way you end up with a story that is full of life but grammatically sound. And yes, again, taking a point from #FF8000 ">Snoink, just click the Check Spelling before you click the Submit button... It makes it easier for a reviewer to see the actual story and its structure rather than focus on Spelling and Grammar :D

This has A VAST AMOUNT OF POTENTIAL! Keep writing! I can't wait to read more :D

Awww... romance! :D

Try to avoid the pitfall of describing every single little thing about your characters... it's better to describe them in increments rather than describe them in a huge dump. After all, the only thing you should dump is... well... ;)

Also, there is one thing that I don't get! If Rakeal is so out of shape, how can he carry Snow home? It doesn't really make sense to me! It especially doesn't make sense in the way he's carrying her... it seems like she is lying in his arms. First of all, that's a really inefficient way to carry people and it puts extra strain on the carrier's back. Not good! A fireman's carry is much more efficient... but she wouldn't fall asleep like that because all the blood would be rushing in her head.

And yes, I think about these things too much. XD

Also! You should totally do a grammar and spell check before posting it on YWS... there were a couple of misspelled words and grammar mistakes that could be easily corrected using that.

Still! Keep on writing! :D

I wondered why we put villains in our stories when we have plenty of them in real life; then I realized that maybe we wanted stories where the good guy wins.
