CHAPTER 6
Climbing the fire escape to get in and out of our apartment may be tiring, but it's the only way to get to it. It's also the safest place in the city. each door, every elevator and staircase, from the ground to the 2nd highest floor, is blocked off. No zombies have ever gotten in. The penthouse, where we live, only has one, small room, but it's the only place in the city where we can truly be safe.
Once we reach the top, Puffball somehow staying on Blaze's shoulders, Blaze collapses on the floor, tired from the climb. I sit up, looking back out the window. The sun is setting, the sky giving the air a pink hue.
"Wow.. look at this, Blaze.." Blaze loves it when the air looks all pink like this, as if a film of it is covering our eyes. his favourite colour is pink, though he almost never admits it. He sits up, staring at the city through the window. At times like this, its easy to forget about everything, the virus, the deaths, the end of humanity. It makes the knowledge that we're all that's left more empowering, as though we're enough, as long as we keep seeing sunsets.
Blaze's hair shines rose gold, a pleasant addition to the palette of colours around us. Puffball sits on his lap, purring, though he sounds like a broken mower. Absent-minded, I chuckle.
"..Huh?" Blaze takes a second to process the sound, dragging his gaze away from the outside to look at me, confused.
"Listen to him purr, he sounds horrible, ha!" Blaze smirks, looking down at Puffball.
"Probably because he's never heard himself, lol."
I scoot over, petting Puffball, and his purr grows louder. His fur is soft and long, engulfing my hand. Then, I realize I'm pressed up against Blaze.
I pull back, embarrassed as hell. "Shit.. it's almost time for dinner.. I better go cook up something.."
Blaze turns to me, with something that could almost be disappointment spread across his face "Oh, yeah.. ok, Ill see if I can find something for Puffball here."
CHAPTER 7
We're eating ravioli. Again. For the fifth time this week. Unsurprisingly, we didn't produce many long-living foods before the apocalypse started. Maybe we would have if we had more time, but the virus jumped us, and most of humanity was gone before the first month. The zombies that came from the virus didn't help us either.
We're sitting on my bed. Puffball is on the table in front of us, eating tuna. Blaze taps on the table, gaining his attention, and he waltzes over. "Puffy boyyy" Blaze calls his name in a sing-song voice, then stops, his face dropping. "Wait a minute.. he can't hear me.." He looks so downcast for a second, before popping back up again.
"Maybe he can't hear me sing to him, but he can still dance!" Gently, he grabs Puffball, holding him so that his back feet still touch the table, then bouncing him around, so he seems to be dancing. I can't help but smile and laugh a little. "Hey," he says, glaring at me, "don't laugh at him, he's trying his best to dance for us!" "Okay, okay, I'm sorry for laughing at you, Puff."
Surprisingly, Puffball doesn't try to fight him, and allows Blaze to help him dance. After a moment, he scoops Puffball into his arms, holding him like a baby. "Aww, look at him, lil guy." His grin as he stares down at Puff is larger than I thought possible, and is contagious too, because as he leans toward me, holding Puffball in his arms, I feel my mouth stretch into a smile, so big it hurts.
He turns to look at me, but even though I'm not near as nice as Puff, his smile doesn't diminish. "Isn't he so cute?" I should be looking at Puff as I nod. I shouldn't be staring at blaze like this. We're friends, that's it. Maybe good friends, maybe even the best, but nothing more than that. Just friends.
"Pfft. sure." I pull away, rolling my eyes, trying to look uninterested. "What, you don't think so?" His grin is gone, and he looks confused. I feel bad for ruining his mood, but.. "I dunno.. I guess so but.. isn't that kinda.. gay?" His confusion turns to anger.
"Dude, what? Who the hell told you that?"
"I dunno.. but I'm not gay." I'm not. I can't be.
"I know but.. I am, and you acting like it's a bad thing doesn't feel very.. great." Did I upset him? His voice breaks on the last word, and he pulls Puff closer to his face.
"I'm.. sorry, blaze." Mom always said that being gay was bad, a useless mutation in society, but.. Blaze isn't useless.
"It's.. fine." But it's not fine. He's still staring down at puff, curled up around him.
"Hey.. I am sorry. You're right, there's nothing wrong with who you are." Slowly, I crawl toward him, wrapping him in my arms. He's a lot bigger than me, but I still manage. I expect him to pull away, I did just insult him after all, but he doesn't. Instead, he leans against me, letting out a stuttered sigh as if he's holding in tears.
We stay like that for a long time, hours. Puff's purr diminishes as he falls asleep, his breathing even. I'm getting tired, it's late, maybe two A.M., but I don't move. Blaze hasn't moved either. "Rye? Where did you get that idea? That being different was bad? Who told you that?"
"What do you mean? How do you know I didn't draw the conclusion by myself?"
"Because you aren't like that. You're not hateful, I know you aren't."
He really thinks that? He believes so much that I'm not a bad person.. "My mom. She told me that. And my dad backed her up."
"Well.. I know that you cared about them, and that they were usually smart, but they were wrong, ok? There's nothing wrong with being who you are."
Maybe he's right. Maybe he's wrong. I'm too tired to debate him. I yawn, causing him to look up, and he yawns too. My bed is soft, and It's not hard to fall asleep on. "Rye.. do you want me to leave?" He's asking if I want him to get off my bed. If I want him to go to his so I can sleep. but all I can think of is what he says.
"No." I don't want him to leave. I'm too tired to think of much, but I know that.

Hello Again, My Friend!
It’s me, Raven, and I’m here to review the next chapter in this great story, using my Familiar method! Let’s dive right in, shall we?
~ A full analysis and breakdown
Alright, so a pretty chill couple of chapters, just elaborating on the "friendship" between Blaze and Rye, and further welcoming Puff into the home. I like that! Let's get into the details though.
Plot and Pacing: Nice! Slow but sweet, with good tidbits of information to keep in mind.
Descriptions and Setting: Pretty good! I like how you describe their living situation—sounds secure enough, and makes sense! If anything, while I get this is leaning more into a romance story, the horror addict in me is just itching to hear more about this virus and the kind of zombies we're dealing with...But it is still early in the book, I get it! I shall be patient lol
Characterization: Hm, sounds like Ryu is having a bit of a...moment here, struggling with himself as well as what he was raised to believe, and the result is just a heap of denial and confusion. Poor guy
Grammar and Wording: Overarchingly? Pretty good! I dropped some little things below, but they're really minor ^^
~ Some nitpicks and little recommendations
Not much to put here at all! Let’s break it down…
Just some minor capitalization errors here! "His" wasn't capitalized, and neither was Blaze as a proper noun.
Tiiiiiny thing, a missing apostrophe from "I'll" is all!
This is a pretty good line, I just felt like, maybe "hateful" was a strong word?? It is a little jarring for your best friend since god-knows-when to be accusing you like that, and I just wasn't getting the impression that Rye was hateful in the situation (understandably a poor choice of words / delivery)...Maybe just some more framing would help, or toning down the heat? Idk tho, that just me :3
That’s all! And of course, this is just my opinion, and I am no professional, so please take only what you want, then consider the rest just the mad rambling of a random internet corvid! I still enjoyed this piece as it is! <33
~ My reactions, theories, and favorite parts
Well, I've got nothing for theories by now, except for the obvious (that Blaze and Rye are definitely going to be more than friends before the story's over <3 lol)! My mind will probably go more crazy one I learn more about the zombie and virus situation lol! In the meantime, let's look at some reactions and highlights!
I love that we're finally getting an idea of what their zombie stronghold is like! An apartment building does make sense for security, especially if you're up in a pent house...I like it!
Ooooo, BANGER of a quote!! It feels very...almost lyrical? Like this is something you would hear in a deep, romantic song with an acoustic strumming in the background, which just SO fits the vibe here ~
Aw, poor Blaze...The chemistry between these two is definitely strong, albeit clearly repressed >.>
LOL, Blaze really is a vibe ~
That's a nice message to leave on! <3 I wonder if and how it will sink in for Rye...
MadThoughts...Overall, that was another great chapter! Nicely done!
"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
"Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”
"I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty."
Hiya! Thanks so much for reviewing!
You're welcome! ^^ <3
I'm not very good at reviewing so I'm just gonna be yapping based on chapters

6th chapter
Veryyy warm feelings. I lovee how you describe everything in such detail. I also like how come it's almost like a diary entry
I feel connected with the characters already, IT MAKES ME SO SAD THAT HE PULLED AWAY
But also I knoww it's important for Rye's character
7th chapter
It was so heartbreaking to hear Rye make diminishing remarks similar to that of which I've heard many times before. He is definitely a realistic character but I would hope to see more contrasting thoughts and more turbulent feelings about calling it gay, but I also realllyyyy like how come they cuddled until they felt better- that was really cute :3 and I would also like to see some of blazes thoughts about this in the next chapter, especially after he asked Rye if he wanted him to leave, it seems like he over thinks very easily just like me
Overall, lovely 6th chapter and sad yet cute 7th chapter! KEEP WRITING!!!
TYSM for reviewing! you did pretty well reviewing! honestly, that's a good idea, I need to start introducing Blaze's thoughts on homophobia. this part made me very sad when they werent gay aswell, but don't worry! it gets worse!
Hello there, human! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!
Shalt we commence with the atrocious S’more?
Top Graham Cracker - Rye and Blaze go to their apartment with Puffball, to have a calm moment together. It’s all good until Rye says that calling Puff cute is kind of gay (isn’t Puff their pet or their adopted child or smth?) but then a talk with Blaze gets Rye to apologize and everything is okay…for now.
Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I think that maybe the pacing is a little bit fast, but that’s just one little thing!
Chocolate Bar - I love how you described the sky, it was very pretty and definitely is a nice distraction from like…everybody dying. I do also like that Blaze knows Rye isn’t hateful, because he knows his “friend”, he’s just shocked. Another thing I liked was Blaze trying to get Puffball to dance, that was both cute and funny. You’ve created an authentic and loving relationship between Blaze and Rye, I hope nothing bad happens to them (but I know I am probably wrong).
Closing Graham Cracker - Overall, a wonderful chapter on how just one moment of peace can help in the wake of destruction. Though these moments are fleeting, it is important that they are cherished. I can’t wait to learn more about Rye and Blaze and the world they are in and so, I wish you…
A mystical day/night! ^v^
Thank you for reviewing! while i would like to be able to write tragedies, i don't think i will be able to harm Blaze and Rye lol, and they fs will be together eventually (Although that's not to say there won't be some.. interesting plot points) thank you so much for reviewing!
You%u2019re welcome! And I%u2019m so glad they will be Alr!
