Safe-Chapter 4

Here's chapter 4. Hope it's not too bad.

----------------------------

I staggered and fell to the floor, as I heard the squeals of Sarah, who was almost breaking the bones in my hand as she squeezed it. A bouncer who must have been Luke rush towards us. ‘What the hell is going on?’ the bouncer called out.

‘This idiot thinks he can just walk up to the deck,’ the kid who punched me said.

‘Back of the line kid,’ Luke said to me.

‘I just want to talk to John’ I said dazed.

‘So does every other person in this place. It’s not going to happen.’

‘If you let me talk to John, he’ll tell you who I am,’ I tried to negotiate.

‘Bit me kid. Bugger off now before I throw you by your hair.’ I saw the annoyance in Luke’s eyes, and just looking at him, I knew he could do it.

‘It’s okay James. We can go,’ Sarah whispered in my ear. I felt a hand on my back suddenly push me. I suddenly flew into Luke who stumbled backwards on the stairs.

‘You little shit!’ I saw a fighting flare glow in Luke’s eyes. I also felt it with his fist in my stomach.

Coughing, a crumbled on the stairs with Luke looming over me. Sarah was getting panicked now too. Luke grabbed me from the back of my shirt and lifted me off the ground. He carried me down the stairs, and I only got my feet when we made it to the floor. As Luke pushed threw people, half the club went quiet watching the spectacle. People cried in outrange as Luke pushed past, until they saw what was happening.

Confused, I saw weird expressions from people in front of me. I turned my head to see Matt hobbling on a leg, trying to stop Luke. Matt grabbed Luke on the shoulder, and I felt the shock go threw Luke as he saw who it was.

‘Put him down Luke,’ Matt ordered Luke.

‘But…’ Luke said baffled while putting me down. ‘Do you know who this is?’ Luke tried to explain himself.

‘Yeah, I do. It’s the guy who signs your pay check.’ The look on Luke’s face was priceless.

‘You’re joking right?’ Luke said worried.

‘No, he’s not. Who else do you think would come up with an idea ideal for youth, except someone who was one of them?’ I said half laughing. ‘And If you let me talk to John, this wouldn’t have happened.

‘The bar’s covered. I think I might open the deck bar,’ Matt told us.

The best part of going up to the deck, was the look on the face of the guy who had punched me.

‘But… how?’ was all he could say. I just grinned.

The other bouncer at the top of the stairs unclipped the rope to let the four of us in. I whispered in Sarah’s ear, ‘Now you’ll see why it was worth it.’ We walked another set of stairs, to a steel trapdoor marked VIP only, which Luke opened it for us. A cool wave of night air blew past us, as we stepped out onto the deck.

As we climbed threw, I heard the astonished gasp of Sarah, as she saw the 360 view of the night time city. Only the glow from the building lights, and the small bar, lit the roof. The soft music echoed off the buildings, surrounding us with it.

There were a few people littered around the roof with some snacks and drinks, but there was none better than the drinks from the deck bar, which Matt led us to. It was a small thing, just a bench with a few drinks behind it, and the neon lights radiating from the floor.

Matt went behind it, and flicked a switch underneath the bench, which lit an open sign. A small cheer from the people on the deck, with the knowledge that they could get the best drinks in the city here.

‘What do you want?’ Matt asked us.

‘You still make a Bubble?’ I asked hopefully.

‘I don’t think we would be in business if I didn’t,’ Matt said jokingly.

‘What’s a bubble?’ Sarah asked.

‘One of the main reasons people come here,’ Matt told her.

‘It’s something my brother used to make me. He showed it to Matt, but he would never tell me how to make it,’ I said.

‘And that’s why it’s called a secret,’ Matt teased.

‘Matt still won’t tell me though. So, while we’re here, you should try it.’

Matt pulled a couple bottles out, and poured them into a shaker. He mixed us two glasses which bubbled with a weird purple colour.

‘The weird thing is, nothing you put in there is, nothing you put in there is purple,’ Matt said.

‘Let’s grab the couch,’ I suggested, nodding over to the couch near the side of the roof with the view of the bay.

‘Sure,’ she said, grabbing her drink. Just as we went, I saw Matt give me a small wink. I was glad it was dark. I hoped Sarah couldn’t see the smirk on my face.

We sat down, and just looked out at the bay. It was lit by the small harbour, and the ships that came to dock for the night.

‘This is the reason I wanted this place. You can’t see this view from anywhere else inn the city.’ Sarah took as sip from her drink, and I saw her face light up with surprise.

‘Wow. That’s… You can’t describe that,’ She tried to explain. I smirked as she took another sip.

‘How’s your stomach?’ Sarah asked suddenly.

‘Oh, yeah, I guess it’s fine. I forgot about it,’ I said looking staring out to sea.

‘How’d you forget about that?’ she asked a little unbelieving.

‘I’ve been thinking about other things,’ I said looking over to her. Even in the dark, I could see her blush.

‘Your so different that what you like at school. You really have your secrets,’ she said. ‘How many people really know that you own the best youth club in the city?’ she asked.

‘Other than you, Matt and John, three other people.’

‘Why are you so secretive?’

‘I have more secrets than you think.’ Sarah laughed at that.

‘So, where’s your brother?’ I felt my stomach turn with that.

‘Um… He’s down the street.’

‘Where?’ she asked curious. I bowed my head.

‘At the cemetery. He’s been there for two years today.’

Review

Hey Kingolions,
I like your book thus far. I agree with the other reviewers that you need to do a better job seperating the dialouge because some of the dialouge I had to read twice to understand. I think the the fight scene between Luke and James was vived and graphic. It was very well exicuted on your part. I wish that the reader could see more of what your main charcter is thinking and why his brother was killed. Overall good job. I will be waiting to read chapter five. Hopefully this review helps you.
