A Dream in Color

In Poetry

I wear the chains of sleep that

Shackle me to a fountain

Of dreams. Fae beasts lurk

Within the realm of my vision,

Dragging me down into deeper

Slumber. Pristine bubbles pop into

Prismatic spray, coating my

Vision in ripe pink and

Succulent purple. Then the

Shackles pop open, freeing

Me from my bonds, and I

Chase the bubbles unceasingly.

This seriously has to be on the Spotlight. (I apologise for stupid typos I am on a hand held device. Right, onto the poem!
Brilliant words and imagery that you have constructed. By referring to dreams as chains is amazing. I can just see what you mean!
The only improvements I can even suggest you make, is to perhaps change your line breaks a bit. In places it felt awkward so perhaps add what you sentence is all together then separate it at a better place. Example...:
"Dragging me down into deeper
Slumber"
Would sound better as:
"Dragging me down
Into a deeper slumber"
Get it? Just my opinion though, great work! You have pretty darn amazing skills at writing! :D

Hi Jcbutterrtoast!
I really liked your poem. Its very descriptive which only made it better. The selection of adjectives which you provided were just brilliant. I especially enjoyed the word "prismatic". You're word choices are astoundingly clever.
One question I do have, however, is concerning the word in line 3: "Fae". Was this a typo or, if not, what does it mean? Sorry, it just made me trip as I was reading it.
Anyway, I deeply enjoyed reading "A Dream in Color". It reminded me of my own little dream world with your beautifully, vivid imagery.
Keep writing! I look forward to more imaginative creations from you.
With love and admiration,

Hmmm, the word "fae" was not a typo, and I believe it means something mystical, magical, fairy-like, etc. Thanks for the review!

Hello Jcbutterrtoast.

I really liked this poem because I could totally relate to it wholeheartedly. If I am understanding everything right, to summarize, is the poem generally about the person sleeping, then dreaming, then waking up and desperately trying to hold onto the dream? If I am, you are awesome, and this poem is basically the story of my life. Even if it isn't, still, the poem is REALLY great!

Shackles pop open, freeing

Me from my bonds, and I

Chase the bubbles unceasingly.

I really liked this part, because it was where I could relate the most. I enjoyed reading this. Great job!

Keep on writing, mephis

Thanks for the review! I'm glad you can relate.

Let's get down to it:

Pristine bubbles pop into

Prismatic spray, coating my

Vision in ripe pink and

Succulent purple.

I'm not much of a fan of Pink as I am Purple, since Purple is my favorite. I liked reading this part because it put a nice picture in my head.

Then the

Shackles pop open, freeing

Me from my bonds, and I

Chase the bubbles unceasingly.

When I read this, it made me think about little kids running around in a field of wild flowers with the Sun shining and butterflies everywhere, completely carefree. Nicely done.

So over all, the poem was quite good. I usually have something I like to nit-pick about, but I couldn't fins anything. And I especially like to look out for grammar and spelling, but once again, nothing. Very well done. Keep it up!! ^^

I quite liked this. And I usually really hate poems that don't rhyme, because I think they look like an awkward, half-hearted attempt.
But this was good. The rhythm flowed very well, and I could relate to and understand everything you were talking about (from memories of falling asleep).
The only thing I didn't understand was when you said that the shackles opened? Did that mean that you wake up and then chase your dreams in real life? or are you just free to move in your dream? You could have maybe made that a bit clearer, but I am very impressed.

I never really thought about the ending. I was more focused on writing down what I saw in my mind's eye. But I give credit to both your interpretations, though I can especially relate to the former. I appreciate your honesty!

Hey Jcbuttertoast!

I really enjoyed this piece of poetry. It gives off pleasant and happy vibes. And I can relate to it, really. I love to dream, and I when I'm waking up from a completely different world filled with exciting things and oddities, I always find myself chasing after the dream, wanting to keep the vision real.

I also relate to this in the real world, and I feel like I can find deeper meaning in it even if you hadn't intended to give it such a thing. People are always dreaming of a wonderful life filled with sparkling unrealities, and are tied to these dreams until they realize that is all they are- dreams. But even though we may break from the unrealities, there is always a part of us that keeps dreaming, always wanting more and never truly giving up on our fantasies.

Sorry if I'm overthinking things, I always tend to do that when I read poems.

No grammar issues (that I know of, I'm new to reviewing poetry), and it flows well. I like that you created a whole other world with just a few words. That shows your mastery of description, bravo!

So all in all, I found this a charming poem that could have multiple meanings and creates pleasant feelings in the reader.

Keep it up,

Kakali! :)

I'm glad you believe this poem to be open-ended, as that was my original intention. I don't believe you overthought the poem at all!
