Lamp Post

by jayleighsmith

Standing tall and proud,
Endlessly and uncomplaining.
It seems sad and lonely
When rendered useless in the light.
But as the burning
Sun beings to set,
You are no longer purposeless.
A halo of florescent yellow
Illuminates around you
As you begin to glow.
You thanklessly show others
The path which they are
To follow. And yet
You remain unmoving.
All night you stay
With strength in your glow.
Until dawn approaches
And the lustrous light
From the sun spills into
The darkened shadows you cast.
And yet again, you are
Rendered useless.
