the child in me
i envy the child in me.
behind her eyes lies a thousand possibilities,
while mine are dimmed by declining years.
.
childhood
to the companions left behind,
to the words left unspoken,
to the mysteries unsolved,
to the wonders abandoned,
there is not a single day i go without
mourning your familiar entrancing touch.
.
my belief
oh, to the age when i believed
the world was my canvas
and i the painter.
.
fantasy
come loosen the bonds
of my imagination,
and maybe,
just maybe,
i could learn to believe again.
.
fictional friends
sorry for forgetting
all that we have done,
our adventures don’t
have to end here,
just take me
by the hand
and lead us to our
own fantasy.
.
longing
take me back to the days
of crayon-colored suns
and playground games.
.
birthdays
blowing out the candles
never feels the same
in double digits.
.
hide and seek
sometimes i hide
behind the pantry
just so that i may
once again
hear your voice
counting down
from ten.

Hi, this is so honest and relatable. Especially the:
''birthdays
blowing out the candles
never feels the same
in double digits.''
This is the kind of poem I feel readers read and slowly smile a warm sad smile, eyes remembering and heart dully aching as their brain remembers. It's beautiful and I think more adults and people in general would benefit from hearing it. But that's why it's here. I also loved this line as it shows the shift from childhood to adulthood so clearly, a tragic reality.
"my belief
oh, to the age when i believed
the world was my canvas
and i the painter."
Hey, inksthewriter! It's nice seeing you again. I hope your novel has been going well! My favorite poem out of all these was "fantasy". I am way too familiar with the desire of wanting to be whisked away by my imagination and no longer having to worry about all the issues that come with being an adult. I think it would be best for everyone if we all acknowledged that we're still children to some degree and that our inner children should be paid attention to and taken care of rather than abandoned and forgotten. The last two lines in "childhood" really spoke to me as there are things that made me feel entranced as a child, but as an adult, while I still like those things, don't give me the same feeling. I try to hold onto it, but it's practically impossible and it feels like it escapes me faster when I do. So, I let it go. I can't wait to see more of your work in the future! It truly was a pleasure to see you!

Hi! It's CATS387 leaving a review! This poem's title brought back memories, so I want to see what it is about! Let's start!
The beginning is very good. It tells of how we miss our childhood.
The middle is the best! It tells of what we used to do as kids! Relatable, lol.
The end tells of being a teen or an adult is never the same as the fun childhood we had before.
Great job on this poem!!!
I wish to see more of your works.
HAPPY WRITING!
Hey there! Thank you so much for the review!!
