the importance of education

Hey! Waffle here for a review.
I don't think this is really meant for the poem section. This is meant for short stories (if you can make it into one,) or a blog.
I can't read it out loud, but it makes no sense in my head. In the A/N section, "sorted" should be "sort of". You might want to go back and fix that.
Your friend's choice...
Is a wise one. He wouldn't have quit if he was actually getting something out of university. College is a HUGE expense, and you end up drowning in debt. Over 40 million students worldwide have over 5,000 dollars in college debt once they graduate. That is a lot.
Besides, who ever said public education was mandatory? There are plenty of things you can learn from online and libraries... Oh, right, everyone... Well I have news for people: It's not.
So there's my two cents...

First, just let me say this doesn't suck and nobody's going to hate you. Also, even if you think you "suck" at poetry, you never know... someone else might think this short lil piece of poetry is the best thing ever written. Even if nobody likes it, doing something and failing is better than never doing it at all... You can't learn if you don't try, so don't be afraid to experiment.

On to the topic of your poem...You totally got that angsty feel you were going for spot on! It fits the struggle and frustrations of so many people I know. We're all told to go to school, do well, get a degree, and THEN you'll be successful. Once we get out of school, we're frustrated that we're not getting the careers we wanted asap. Some of us end up working minimum wage jobs that suck and live lives that are nothing like what we expected. We feel cheated. We feel lied too. And in just a few words, you totally nailed that feeling in my opinion.

However, the reality is few of us actually think long term when we're in our teens and early 20's. That college education that seems like a waste of time and money from now right up to shortly after graduation might turn out to be a huge asset later down the line.

If you want to build this poem a bit (totally up to you, but I would love to see more to it!) - why not make a second part about the long term view? Along the topic of "Yeah I'll be working in retail for a while... But what about later down the line?"

First off, don't ever feel bad about writing something. There are many reasons we write things, and none of them are really wrong. You could have wanted to write this for yourself, or you could have just written it because of your friend. On an interesting note, my sister just dropped out of college too. It's quite the piece of news to take, isn't it?
Here's the deal. College costs a lot of money, it's true. And I can't say you won't be doing retail for a while after it. But you have to think of it as as investment. Not to diss anyone who didn't go or dropped out, but in general people who went to college earn substantially more than those that didn't. IN GENERAL. So that thirty to fifty grand is really just money you put in. You easily make it up after a while, even though paying loans sucks. It's hard to see it sometimes, it can feel pointless, but it's how it is. I understand the reasoning, but still feel personally it isn't the right choice. But anyway. Sorry for offering that opinion haha. I get a bit . . . passionate when it comes to education.

Anyway! Don't say you suck at all, okay? Writing can always be better or worse. It's all about working to be the best you can, which is better than you think it is. I liked the poem. It's short, but easy to get through. I feel bad because I don't have much to say in the way of critiquing, aside from the fact the poem is all one long sentence. Punctuation in poetry is always tricky, sometimes people don't use it at all, but I would suggest splitting "Piece of paper with your name on it" and end that to start with "Even though you'll probably end up"
Of course, that's just me. Poetry is always about what feels right, so seriously feel free to ignore me haha. I'm certainly no poetry expert.
