A/N: reviewers, i'd love to hear your interpretation! i can post the real "text version" if you'd like, but first i want to hear what your impression on this poem is. what does it mean? who is talking? what are they talking about?

my interpretation:
we zoom in from the planet toward creatures.
a sprout says, trees are strong, but i am not. why?
tree responds, no, you're wrong. trees are strong, yes, but you are also strong. even though you aren't a tree.
the sprout says, wonderingly, sprouts like me look good, but how are we strong?
the tree says the whole world is strong. all the creatures in it are strong. plants look good, yes, but sprouts are sprouts, and sprouts grow into trees! and the ability to grow makes you strong.
the sprout thinks and thinks and thinks. then says, but if everything is strong, I'm worried that nothing is strong.
the tree pauses and thinks. then talks to another tree. it says, you haven't spoken with the sprout. sprouts are sprouts and trees are trees. tree's thoughts are not the same as sprouts thoughts. a sprout, not me or anyone else in the world, had a good question. that question is, what if no one is strong? but the sprout has strong thoughts and questions. i think the sprout is a good speaker for its worry that no one is strong. therefore, the sprout is strong.
the spout thought abd did not speak for a long time. then the sprout thought, the world is full of questions, and I just look good. but sprouts are strong. sprouts will grow into trees.

I felt pretty good about my interpretation till the end two "lines" where I felt a little shakier, and especially the very end I couldn't really find a way to make my thoughts fit nicely together

... i forgot to respond to this, but you hit the nail on the head! it was really hard to express the concept of "growth" through emojis....

Here's my interpretation~ this was fun! :]

The world is vast, look a little closer see the continents, look a little closer see the mountains and vast landscapes, look a little closer around that bend in the road, look a little closer at the forest stretching out with trees, look a little closer between the saplings and oak trees a snail slides past, a cardinal chirps, and the fox stretches out - oh to know the inner thoughts of a sapling!

The sapling asks to the mighty oak - you are mighty father, when will I grow to be strong as you are?

The oak responds - no, no, no my child, you are strong, I am strong, your strength is not in your height.

The sapling does not understand, she asks once more - I am small, how could I be mighty?

And her father tells her the story of the world - pointing to the forest and the universe around them - See my child the vast world is strong as it spins and turns, the fox as mighty as it leaps and bites, the cardinal is mighty with her lungs pouring music, the amoeba, the ladybug, the buzzing bee, the snail they are mighty too in how they crawl, and fly, and move, and leap the smaller you look the bigger you see! and you my child, are strong too, not in how you are like me, but in how you are like you! Your branches twist in the wind, your leaves catch the light, your roots move and dance - we are mighty too!

The little sapling ponders this, she thinks and thinks and thinks - she wonders at the little beings of the world, she only sees their weakness though her father has seen strength, how could this be!

But the oak has learned in its years something will have to learn one day too - we are not strong in how we are alike each other, but in how we are different, in how we grow, in how we all grow our roots in the same dirt and stretch towards the same sun.

The sapling could not understand her father's words yet. But as time passed, and the sun and moon turned, she never forgot her father's words, and one day the earth cried out to the sapling "oh little sapling, how are you so wise, so steadfast, so strong?" and as the sapling looked at the universe, and how even the earth needed her to breathe, and the ants to crawl, and the sun to turn now she learned what her father had tried to teach her long ago - "dear earth, look closer and you will see - I am strong because I'm me!"

This was really interesting. I showed this to my friend and we translated it in our silly goofy way of interpretating this. Thought I might share this masterpiece with you.

World magnifying glass, continent magnifying glass, da mountains magnifying glass, valley magnifying glass, tree tree tree tree magnifying glass, plant tree snail bird fox

Plant speak β€œTree strong, urm actually plant not strong?”

Tree speak β€œNO NO NO, plant strong, tree strong, plant not tree.”

Plant? Speak β€œPlant magnifying glass okay. Plant strong?”

Tree speak β€œThree worlds strong. Fox strong, bird strong, bacteria, ladybug, bee, snail strong. Plant magnifying glass okay. Urm actually plant okay plant turn into baby plant turn into tree. Plus plant turn into baby plant turn into tree strong.”

Plant speak. Plus speak. Plus speak. Plant think, plant speak β€œUrm actually plant plus ladybug plus snail plus be plus bacteria plus fox plus tree plus bird strong, plant speak worry plus not strong?”

Tree pause. Tree thing turn into tree speak β€œTree don’t think plant. Plant turn into plant, tree turn into tree. Tree don’t thing both plant think. Plant, not tree, not fox, not world, okay think. Plant think worried plus not strong. Urm actually, plant turn into strong think plus strong think. Tree think plant good think. Plant think worried plus not strong. Plant turn into strong.”

Plant think, plant don’t speak. Time time time time time. β€œSun turn into cheese.” Plus plant think β€œworld turn into question mark, plus plant turn into magnifying glass okay. Urm actually, plant turn into strong. Plant okay plant turn into baby plant turn into tree.”

Spoiler
A poem translation of this story

The Sapling's Growth

No one sees me from space
Nor continent, nor country, not the large place
Not from high mountain tops nor busy streets.
But search deeper and lower the and the finest of trees.

I am not strong with my flimsy leaves,
But you stand tall against the wildest breeze.
No you are just as mighty as me.
We hold to our nature, though different we be.

The earth is mighty with its animals and birds,
From insects, to plants, to the wildest herds.
You, oh sapling, fit among these things.
Your roots will stem legs, and your branches wings.

Yes the earth has great plants and creatures,
But how does my life compare to its features?
The trees leaves stood still to ponder this question.
What could he say to make of this lesson?

How do I talk, oh little sapling?
You talk like you've lived and I am not grappling.
Sprouts are sprouts, and trees are trees,
A fox wasn't meant to be a tree, nor a sapling be me.

You see, oh sapling, nature made us differently.
This does not make you any weaker than me.
You heart is strong, and your thoughts worth while.
I enjoy speaking with you, you make me smile.

But still the sapling did not understand,
How his little self had a part in this plan.
He wanted to have the strength of the oak.
So he waited and waited until he awoke.

Mother nature looked closely and what did she see?
Her confused little sapling finally at peace.
He patiently waited until on day he'd joke,
About when he doubted the words of that oak.

Also, I loved interpreting this so much. A funny image popped in my head that this is what the scripts of silent films look like.

I presume the story goes something like this here.

Spoiler
We zoom in on our scene: a forest inside a mountain range.
A seedling states, "A tree is strong, but a seedling isn't."
A tree responds, "No, no, no. A seedling is strong, and a tree is strong, but in different ways."
The seedling, confused, asks, "A seedling is small; how is a seedling strong?"
The tree answers, "Everything is strong. A seedling is small, but it will one day become a tree, Thus, it is strong."
The seedling thinks. After a long pondering over what the tree said, the seedling asks, "Yes, a seedling will become a tree, but how does that make it strong?"
The tree does something with two barsβ€”probably thinking. Suddenly, the tree answers: "A tree cannot think like a seedling. A seedling is a seedling and a tree is a tree. A tree and a seedling think differently, since a seedling is not a tree, nor anything else. A seedling may not appear to be strong; however, a seedling is strong in the way it thinks."

The seedling reflects. It reflects for a long timeβ€”it is in no rush, as it is a seedling. The seedling replies to the tree, "Compared to the whole world, a seedling is small. All the same, a seedling is strong, because it will become a tree."

I don't get the moral lol.

Hello! AnotherCrowInRow (aka Kay) is here with a review. And I am extremely looking forward to this one, as it caught my eye as soon as I saw it in the Green Room. We've got a bunch of emojis here, and since I'm a little too obsessed with ciphers and decryption, I got down to business!
And I'll admit it. We have plenty of time to review and sleep, so I haven't come to any big conclusions. Well, I understood this from the hieroglyphs of the twenty-first century:

🌍 πŸ”Ž πŸ—Ί πŸ”Ž β›°πŸ”πŸ—» πŸ”Ž 🏞 πŸ”Ž πŸŒ³πŸŒ³πŸŒ³πŸŒ³πŸ”Ž 🌱🌳🐌🐦🦊

In this part, you invite the reader to take a closer look at our planet. For individual mountains, hills, etc. Let us see the forests and their inhabitants with our inner vision? That fits for me.
πŸŒ±πŸ’¬ (🌳πŸ’ͺ, ☝️ 🌱🚫πŸ’ͺ. ?)

Huh. I would say that there is a dialogue between tree and itΒ΄s seed. Tree is giving seed some tips and questions it, if it will be strong enought? Probably.

I started to get very lost in this part. Well, at least I put together my interpretation of the complete ending. Something about how a seed over a very long time (I'm guessing based on the number of clock face emojis) gradually grew into a big and healthy tree.
Overall, I found your idea very original! They say that you have to be able to decipher the poems, but you took it literally and I like that a lot! And I'd definitely like to read the text version sometime, since I'm obviously not good at reading emojis at all.

Have a nice rest of day/night/whatever!

I gotta be honest, chrysanthemumcentury, I had no clue what to make of this when I first saw it! This was like reading an ancient mesopotamian slab. But I must commend you with forming a narrative using emojis! From what I could figure out, the Seed has some self-esteem issues to which they tell the Tree. The Seed either does not think they are strong/important (I'm inclined to think important more than strong) and it become this debate between the two, how the Seed compares itself to other living beings (animals) while the Tree tells them about how one day they'll turn into a tree. This works and the Seed remains silent, waiting for a really long time while pondering. Until one day it excepts their own importance and soon after, they become the Tree.

I say Wolf, for all wolves are not of the same sort; there is one kind with an amenable disposition – neither noisy, nor hateful, nor angry, but tame, obliging and gentle, following the young maids in the streets, even into their homes. Alas! Who does not know that these gentle wolves are of all such creatures the most dangerous!
— Charles Perrault
