flick flick
the blue light
on and off
illuminating the blue room
eyes wide open
a mattress made out of nails
my pillow
chases me away
sleep
glances at me
decides
i'm not worth staying for
and leaves
only the fan
stays
and keeps humming
staring contest
with the ceiling
wrestling match
with the thick air
dim glow
faint light
the moon
in the dark blue night
flick flick
why.

What an evocative poem. I love its loose and flexible form, and much of it's imagery sticks out.
This instantly creates such an image in the mind, one of one's phone, glowing, nothing but dark peeking through the curtains and all other life in the house is currently peacefully asleep.
As I write this it is currently late, and I will surely live this poems events soon again, though I don't have insomnia; I just chase the night when my day has escaped me.
My favourite piece of imagery for sure is:
So vivid, personifying the air, as well describing the motion of rolling around; moving around; legs up; against the wall; turning; twisting, just not falling asleep.
I love the sharpeness and simplicity of this thing. The blunt
to close the poem is great. Fantastic poem ! Keep it up !
I actually love this poem. As an insomniac myself, I know these feelings and happenings.
So. Many. Nights.
My room is blue and I sleep with my TV on (when I can sleep) which often emits a blue light. No clue where the blue light emanates from for the speaker but I see myself in it.
This. Why do pillows always do this??
No notes. This poem is great. <3
I'm glad you were able to relate to this
thanks so much for the compliments!
I can certainly relate to the speaker in this poem. You describe the frustration of being unable to sleep at night despite needing plenty of rest incredibly well. I also start getting irritated by the background noise that seeps into my room when I cannot sleep. The all-lowercase words and no commas might cause some confusion for readers regarding which phrase is supposed to end where, but stylistic choices don't necessarily have to be edited in my opinion, so please don't change the punctuation in this poem if it's your preferred style. This is a good and relatable poem!
I do see how my syntax could confuse some readers, but I feel like it resembles the wild flow of ideas and emotions and thoughts that go on in my brain without a break. Thank you so much for your compliments I really appreciate it
Hii! I really love your poem, and i'm here to leave a short review today

Is a nice way to bring us in and out of the poem. It gives a sensory detail that bookends the insomnia of the piece, and gives the poem a nice, satisfying circularity.
This is my favourite stanza of the piece! I love the image of sleep being to blame for not being able to get to sleep because it doesn't want you.
This gives a sort of clinical feel to it, like a blue light is not a normal colour for a room light, reminding me of ambulance/police sirens but also maybe the cold clinicality of a hospital room?
These two stanzas are a line shorter than the rest. It might be intentional to mimic the tossing and turning of sleep, but it also means these two ideas just aren't explored as much as the rest!
Overall this is a nice piece that moves really well through the motions! I wonder if you have a deeper meaning than I am picking up on, or is it simply about insomnia/not sleeping well? Either way I really enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for this response! I really appreciate this lmao; it was my first descent into poetry for the first time in a LONGGGG time, and I was honestly really nervous so I was just trying to describe things as raw and as vividly as they appeared in my mind. Now that you pointed it out, I do think that maybe elaborating some more on the staring contest and wrestling match could flesh out my poem or add some more depth. Thank you again c:
