A/N: This is a very sad short story about Marilyn and what she's going through. This is a bullying awareness story, and I hope it helps you to realize what it can cause. Enjoy

I just got into my new house, and it's huge. Bigger than our old one. I never wanted to leave my old house North Carolina. It was so calm and cozy. I had friends then, and I don't think I will fit in with this town, and the other girls at school.

***

A week has passed and it's the first day of school. My mom came and woke me up.

"Get up now," mother said meanly. "You have school, your breakfast is on the table, and I hope you eat it, because we don't waste food."

She left the room. I didn't reply to her. I was scared. Sometimes she abused me, and hit me, but I've never told anyone before.

I got up, and took off my beagle dog pajamas, that my Aunt gave me for my birthday.

It was very warm outside, since we do live in Florida. I put on some jean shorts with lace at the bottoms, and a red, pink tank top.

"Perfect." I said to myself smiling in the mirror. "Maybe I will fit in."

I went downstairs where mom waited for me at the table. She seemed upset. What could I have done wrong.

"Hurry up, you need to walk to school, and it starts at 7:30. You should leave in five minutes at 7:00." My mom said.

"Okay."

I put my dishes in the sink after eating, and grabbed my book-bag, off the hook by the door. It was tan with red flowers on it.

I walked down the sidewalk to school following the road signs. Finally after about twenty minutes I am in front of my new school. They call it Richwood High. I'm going to be a sophomore this year. I'm fifteen.

I walked in to school, which was jam packed with kids. You could barely walk in the place, without running into people.

That's when it happened. I bumped into the queen b of the school.

"Hey watch it loser." She said.

"Sorry." I replied, "I'm new, and my name's Marilyn."

"Oh, I'm Kelsey, and next time sweetheart, be careful, and don't bump into me. Besides I don't need a retarded loser like you ruining, my beautiful nails and makeup."

"I said I was sorry."

"Too bad loser."

With that she walked away, and left me there, everyone staring like I had murdered someone. I walked to my class.

"Why don't you sit next to Will Con over there in the third row." Mr. Charleston, my English teacher said.

"Okay." I went back to row three with Will.

"Hi." Will said. "I'm Will."

"Um... Hi. I'm Marilyn."

"You're the new girl right?"

"Yeah, is it really that obvious."

"Yeah, kind of. It's what happened before class started. The girl you ran into. She's the queen bee, of the school. The most popular. Captain of the cheerleading squad, and also, my x girlfriend. I dumped her after I found out that she treated certain people like crap. I guess you're one of them."

"Yay, I get to be the typical loser girl. How fun." I replied with sarcasm.

"Hey, don't worry. You have me to protect you."

"I don't even know you."

"Well, you could. How about we go to the café after school? We could get to know each other better."

"You mean... Like a date?"

"No, just as friends."

"Would you two like to come back to class?" Mr. Charleston asked.

"Sorry Sir." Will said.

"Be quiet Will." Mr. Charleston replied to Will's "sorry."

The bell finally rang, after that boring class.

"See you after school?" I asked Will.

"Sure. I'll meet you at your locker. What's your locker number?"

"Okay, and it's 152."

"Cool. See you there after classes."

"K, bye."

At least I had one friend.

After three more classes it was finally lunch time.

I sat alone at a lunch table. I thought I would go over to Will's table, but he seemed busy with his football friends or whatever, so I didn't.

Kelsey came over to my table then. She sat down and crossed her pale legs.

"Can I help you Kelsey?" I asked.

"No, but you can help me... By taking your ugly face, and getting out of here. Out of my school."

"Technically it's not your school. You don't own it. It's the principals school."

"Shut up loser. You don't tell me what to do, you idiot. You're such a bitch."

"Okay, call me a dog. If you say I'm a dog, you can be a donkey, or in other terms an Asshole."

"Okay. You think you're smart, but you don't know what I'm capable of."

"Yeah, okay. I'm scared." I said with sarcasm.

"I will give you one last chance to stay out of my way bitch, and I suggest you don't blow it."

"Okay, but just remember you were the one who came up to me."

"You and I both know something. And that is, that you're an ugly, fat, freak. We both also know

you're a fat little sausage bitch.

She left, without letting me reply.

I ran off to the bathroom crying. Tears streaming down my face like a rushing river. I was scared that Will would see me crying, and I couldn't let that happen. I ran into the bathroom, where other girls were talking. When I got in, they said...

"Hey, Morgan it's that new girl."

"Yeah the bitch who ran into Kelsey."

"What a loser."

They walked out of the bathroom laughing as hard as they could. I ran into one of the stalls and stayed there until the bell rang. Once it did, I got my book-bag from my locker and went to class. After the last two classes of thinking about Kelsey.

I was about to walk out of the school building when I remembered Will.

"Oh my gosh." I said to myself. "Will!"

I ran back into the school, and ran down the halls to my locker. On my way there, Kelsey put her legs in front of mine, and tripped me. I fell right on my face, in front of the whole entire school. Everyone pretty much then left laughing, and I was alone in the hallway, except for a few other "loser kids." Well at least that's how Kelsey sees them anyway.

I walked to my locker, where Will was waiting, acting like nothing had happened.

"Hey Marilyn. What took so long?"

"Oh, I just had to talk to a teacher about something."

"Is that so?"

"Um... Yes Will."

"What happened? Please tell me, if it has something to do with Kelsey, I... I need to know."

"Why, just because she's your x?"

"Yes, and she's. I don't know how to explain it."

"I guess there's a lot to explain for the both of us. Let's go to the Café, and we can talk. K?"

"Sounds like a plan."

We walked silently to the café. It was called "The Cozy Café."

We walked inside, and sat down after we ordered coffee.

"What happened after school."

"Um... Well... I..."

Will took my hand in his. It felt warm and comforting.

I stared down at my hand, and looked up at Will. He was smiling at me, and I did back.

I started to explain about Kelsey, and lunch, and after school, and how she tripped me.

He understood, but Will seemed upset.

"I have a question." Will said.

"Ask away." I replied.

"Will you be my girlfriend?"

"Will... I barely know you, and I... I don't know."

"Sorry, I know it's sudden, but I feel something between us. I know there's something. I feel it."

"I feel something too. It's a good feeling."

"Yes. So what do you say?"

"Alright, sure, I'll be your girlfriend."

"Cool." He said.

I started to laugh.

After we got to know each other at the café, he walked me home.

"Thanks." I said. I kissed him on the check, and went inside. There my mom was waiting for me.

I hung up my book-bag on the hook next to the door.

"Hi mom." I said happily.

She glared at me.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

She came over to me, and slapped me in the face really hard. It left a giant red mark.

"What was that for." I screamed.

She didn't say anything, all she did was glare at me, and continue to beat me. She knocked me to the ground, kicking me, and punching me hardly.

I screamed in pain. "Why?" That's the only word I could manage to say. I continued to feel the pain as she kicked harder and harder. Finally she stopped. She grabbed her purse, and left the house.

I ran upstairs to my room, and locked the door. I looked in the mirror.

Maybe Kelsey was right. I am just an ugly bitch loser girl. My mom seems to think so, so maybe they're right. I'm a fat sausage.

I kept repeating those things in my head, and now I know they are true.

How does Will see around all that. He probably thinks I'm a ugly, fat, loser, bitch, sausage too. He just doesn't want to admit it... I don't know. What's wrong with me. Why does my mom hate me. Why doesn't Kelsey like me. Why did I have to move here. I thought.

I went downstairs to the kitchen a few hours later, and mom still wasn't home. I wasn't complaining about that though.

I was still thinking about Kelsey and Will, and my mom. I grabbed myself a snack, while mom wasn't home, because I know she won't feed me. Just then I heard the door unlock, as I was making a sandwich. I watched the doorknob turn as she unlocked it.

She opened the door. She saw the butter knife in my hand, and the peanut butter, and jelly on the counter.

"What are you doing you little bitch?"

"Mom, I'm hungry."

"Oh... Poor baby." She said meanly. I know she didn't mean that. "She pushed me over. You don't need to eat this. You're already fat enough, also to mention you're the ugliest person I've ever seen, so why would I let you eat my food. I'm looking out for you. You will think me eventually."

"Yeah right." I screamed in my mothers face. "All you do is abuse me, and you don't care. Why.. Why do you hate me. What did I ever do wrong, for you to hate me so much. I do you-"

She cut me off.

"Get out." She yelled.

I didn't move. When I didn't she pushed me to the ground and stabbed me in the arm with the butter knife. It wasn't deep up I screamed in pain as she continued to scrape it down my arm.

She finally stopped and I ran up to my room, blood dripping from my arm.

***

The next day at school I was alone and felt broken.

Will walked up to me.

"Hey. We need to talk." He sounded serious.

"Okay... what's up."

"Okay, you'll hate me after I tell you this, but Kelsey isn't my x girlfriend. She's my sister. That's why I need to know what she does."

"What." I said meanly. "Why would you lie to me." Tears started to run down my face. "Will, I thought what we had was real."

"Don't cry. I love you Marilyn."

"No you don't. You believe everything Kelsey says, because you hang with her all the time."

He didn't get to say anything else. I was so upset, I ran out of the school building.

***

That incident happened three months ago, and I still didn't have any other friends. Will and I didn't talk to each other.

I thought more about how fat and ugly I was.

My mom continued to beat me worse everyday, and I walked to school, with scars and bruises. New ones than the ones I had the day before, and Kelsey would stand there and laugh at me. Sometimes Will watched, and he seemed sad, but what did I care. He lied to me, and I know that now. I gave him an evil look and we walked away sadly.

Kelsey continued to bully mean, and I couldn't take it anymore. She told me the same things everyday. She told me I was fat, ugly. That I was a bitch, and a asshole. She said I was as fat as a sausage.

Mom, and Kelsey did to the point where I couldn't handle it anymore.

After school that day I ran home, and into the kitchen where mom was. I didn't seem to care. I walked over to the knife cabinet, and pulled out the sharpest one. I looked over at my mom who stood up shocked.

"Honey, what are you doing?" She said.

I didn't reply, I stared dead at her.

"Marilyn." She said. "Don't do this. I love you."

As she said those words, I stabbed myself, the knife when through my heart, and the sharp pain made me fall to the floor. I was still awake, dying painfully, which it what I deserved.

Now third person point of few.

Marilyn's mom called the police. Will came over to talk to Marilyn and when he saw she was dead. He didn't know what to do with himself. He knew it was his fault.

At the funeral, Will was there. He was crying tears running down his face, like rapids.

Kelsey was there as well, tears coming down her face too. She finally realized what bullying could lead to and vowed never to do it again.

*Please don't bully, it's wrong, and could cause death. As well as abuse. If you read this I hope you enjoyed, but please, if you're the bully. Stop, you don't know what you could cause. A couple of words, can have a big impact.*A

A/N: Sorry if the talking/diolauge is really messed up!

Hi! I'm here for a long-overdue review! :D

First of all, this is a really awesome work and I love the image you're portraying about bullying and its impacts. I loved reading it and I can tell you must have worked hard on it!

I'm going to get started with a few "nitpicks" I suppose you could call them. Please remember that I don't mean to hurt your feelings, and if I do, sorry! Just trying to help :)

One of the first things I noticed was your comma usage. Let me elaborate:

By taking your ugly face, and getting out of here.

I found a couple of times when you put commas in sentences where they shouldn't be, such as this sentence. The comma shouldn't be present in that sentence. Here is another example of a sentence with an extra comma.
I got up, and took off my beagle dog pajamas, that my Aunt gave me for my birthday.

"I got up and took off the beagle dog pajamas that my Aunt gave me for my birthday" would be a better way to organize that sentence. Just a suggestion.

There were a few times that you left out commas that you could add, such as when Kelsey says, "Hey watch it loser." A better way to write that phrase could be, "Hey, watch it, loser." Or, if you want it to be even better, you could make Kelsey say, "Hey! Watch it, loser!" to sound a bit more peeved with Marilyn :)

Other than a few things that would most likely be typos (like accidentally leaving out the "e" in "ex"), there was no other "nitpicks". Just watch for the commas a bit :P

Sorry if I'm being repetitive, but I just wanted to say - once again - how much I loved your short story! It obviously had a lot of hard work put into it and it was a beautiful piece. Keep up the awesome writing!

Hi dogsrule5, acm here for a review! I really liked this story, especially with its message. Bullying is such a big problem and so many people --me included-- have been bullied. I know how it feels and can really relate to this story. I really liked reading this, but I have a few quick suggestions. I'll try not to nitpick!

"Yay, I get to be the typical loser girl. How fun." I replied with sarcasm.

This is one of the things I've found a lot in writing, but you don't really need the last part telling the reader that Marilyn was being sarcastic. It was already in the dialogue, so the repetition isn't necessary. Although if for some reason Marilyn was excited about being the loser girl, you could say, "Yay, I get to be the typical loser girl again. How fun!" I reply excitedly. That would be okay because it's not what you're expecting.

Another thing is the storyline. I really do like school life stories, but this one had quite a few cliches in it. A girl comes to a new school where she meets a really popular girl who is really mean and has it in for her. It all seems horrible, but then a popular boy has feelings for her...

I was also wondering about the mother, though. I felt like I needed some backstory on her. Why is she so horrible? Was she herself in a bad relationship or bullied when she was young? She needs a bit more motivation to be a horrible person.

Lastly, while reading it I felt like the character was more talking about her experience than narrating. In writing I've heard of a saying that said you should show your reader what is happening, not tell them. That might sound a bit confusing, but in a story you should give evidence, not a summary of what happens.
For instance, the beginning. Why don't you open with a mother-daughter fight about them moving ending in her mother hitting her. That would show the reader what happens and make the story more believable.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this story. I loved its main character and twist ending. I'm sorry if the review was a bit harsh, but I hope it helped.

Keep writing!

I've heard the before. Show, not tell. It seems as if I can't seem to get the show down. I know how to tell, and I seem to do it well. (Hey that rhymed) xD. I will work harder on it next time. Also, the only reason I didn't include background for the mother is because, since it was from the girls point of view, she wouldn't know. I never really thought about the mom's background anyway. Thanks again for the review..
