Sabrina-Through the relics resides a disturbed soul

It was a bright summer’s day outside. The sun wasn’t too hot, the air was pleasantly breezy. It was, in fact, the perfect day to go out and play, as adults would say to their children.

But still, ten year olds Sabrina and Morgan were at Morgan’s house, trying to find something interesting to watch on TV. The summer was an opportunity for many fun things, but the girls preferred to spend it going to each other’s houses and watching TV with one another. Somehow, watching something together made them feel more connected, more close to one another, as though a shared moment of silence with the TV had bonded them more.

If only all the shows on weren’t all stupid doctor shows, corny kids shows, or just plain ol’ boring. Sabrina thought that it was phenomenal, how Morgan was surfing through the channels for what felt like a billion hours and still couldn’t find anything! Why-

“Do you want to watch a show about ghost sightings?” Morgan asked suddenly, stopping at a channel titled: “100 creepy ghost sightings caught on camera!”

A smile formed on Sabrina’s lips. She had heard of ghosts before, in urban legends, stories, and movies, but she had never seen real life ghosts before. She often wondered what it would be like to meet a ghost or even be a ghost, but anytime she brought it up with her parents, they would look at her as though she had extra eyes and say “Don’t talk about being dead!”, which was a weird reaction, Sabrina thought.

“Sure!” Sabrina said.

Without further ado, Morgan turned on the show and sat with Sabrina on the couch, the exciting show that was discovered glittering like treasure found in a long-lost treasure chest.

It was going to be so fun!

…………………………………………………………

A few hours had passed since Morgan had turned on the glorious show. They had both watched five episodes in ten seasons and still had ten more seasons to go, but that would be alright. Sabrina would stay right on the couch with Morgan unless she had to take a bathroom break or her parents picked her up, grasping onto Morgan’s arm if something scared Sabrina, because there was no shame in either of them being frightened, as they would always be there to comfort each other and-

“I’ve heard of this show before. It’s all fake.” Morgan’s Mom said from the hallway.

Sabrina felt her stomach twist with annoyance. She was having so much fun with Morgan that she forgot Morgan’s parents were in the house, her Dad cutting grass outside and her Mom doing various errands inside.

But honestly, what right did Morgan’s Mom have to interject like that?

“No it’s not!” Morgan cried out, already getting stressed out from the words of her Mom.

Sabrina heard Morgan’s Mom sigh and then say:

“It’s fake. The “ghosts” are just people in makeup and costumes. It’s all staged. Ghosts aren’t real, scientists don’t believe in them.”

Morgan’s Mom then left to continue on with her errands. Her words didn’t hold any weight or effect on the girls at first, but the more they watched the show, the more they noticed how the gorey wounds on the ghosts looked like face paint, how their “hair “ was so dry and bright that it could be nothing but wigs, how their clothes looked very much like Halloween costumes the girls saw.

With how obvious it became that the “ghosts” in the show were only actors, Morgan began to look a little deflated, a little down, which started to make Sabrina feel upset, so Sabrina chimed in with:

“I know that the ghosts here are fake, but maybe there are some that are real. Maybe we can’t see real ghosts.”

At those words, Morgan’s eyes twinkled, Sabrina could feel her heart lift with the joy that summer was supposed to bring and then Morgan asked with a smile:

“Do you think there are ghosts in my house?”

Well, were there ghosts in Morgan’s house? It wasn’t something that either of the girls ever thought about before, but it wouldn’t hurt to try and search for them, would it?

“Maybe. I don’t know.” Sabrina said with a shrug, for how else was she supposed to respond to such a question?

“Do you want to stop watching TV and look for them?” Morgan asked, her voice giddy with glee just like when she found the ghost show a few hours earlier.

“Yes!” Sabrina beamed, glad that her friend was happy again.

Morgan then grabbed the remote on the coffee table and turned off the TV, gesturing for Sabrina to follow her. Sabrina was happy to do so, for in all of the days she hung out with Morgan, she never once thought that they would do something as spooky and thrilling as searching for ghosts! Who knew what kind of ghosts they’d both run into? The possibilities were endless!

One thing was for certain, though: There would never be a time where Sabrina wasn’t there for Morgan.

Not one.

I find it interesting that the girls think of watching TV as a bonding activity. There's already so many stereotypes about the activity so I think this is new and exciting :)
Wish you were more specific about "it" here

Sabrina thought that it was phenomenal

Is she talking about a specific thing or all the things? If all the things then it shouldnt be it? And a more specific answer would also tell us more about Sabrina's character!

Awww so cute:
there was no shame in either of them being frightened, as they would always be there to comfort each other

That strikes me as... very reductive:
scientists don’t believe in them.

Like, a thought-terminating clichée. It feels like the mom has 0 arguments and calls on the higher authority of the scientists with no thought put into it and that's kinda a harmful thing. It makes it sound as if scientists should not be believed in general (especically because the rest of the story will have supernatural elements, if I'm not too far off xd)

Love the child-like enthusiasm here:
Well, were there ghosts in Morgan’s house?
Like, ofc kiddos, go search for the ghosties. Adorable!

And ofc there is this ominious phrasing at the end. What will happen to these poor girls in their search? @.@

The %u201Cit%u201D Sabrina is talking about is Morgan searching through the channels and finding nothing. And nothing will happen to them now, but when they are older, something will.

Thank you for reading.

Hello again! Wolfi here on behalf of Team Aliens on a deep dive of the Green Room >:3 As always, I'll leave some thoughts as I read.

She often wondered what it would be like to meet a ghost or even be a ghost, but anytime she brought it up with her parents, they would look at her as though she had extra eyes and say “Don’t talk about being dead!”, which was a weird reaction, Sabrina thought.

Haha! I've noticed a pattern with your stories where the young protagonist has parents who don't handle their child's curiosity very well. If you're trying to protect them, there are better ways to do it than immediately slamming the door in their face!

“I’ve heard of this show before. It’s all fake.” Morgan’s Mom said from the hallway.

It's not being used like a nickname, so "Mom" shouldn't be capitalized here, or anywhere else in the story. It'd only be used in instances like "'Hey Mom,' Morgan said" where the title is being used like a name.

At those words, Morgan’s eyes twinkled, Sabrina could feel her heart lift with the joy that summer was supposed to bring and then Morgan asked with a smile:

Aww, these two are so cute. I mean, it's a little depressing that all they want to do together is stay glued to the screen (why isn't Mom calling that out instead of the ghosts??) but still, their friendship is sweet.

Morgan then grabbed the remote on the coffee table and turned off the TV, gesturing for Sabrina to follow her.

I approve of this development! Get off your butts, girls!

There's something extra ironic about them going ghost hunting in the middle of a summer day. The dad's outside mowing the grass, the mom's doing chores... not exactly the most spooky atmosphere. Imagination can take Morgan and Sabrina anywhere, though!

This story is obviously on the shorter side and felt less complete than some of your other stories, but knowing you, I'm sure these characters are part of a larger web, and this is just a little slice of life! I really enjoyed it!

Keep it up!
Wolfi

So glad you enjoyed! Under my folder %u201CChristopher Morgan%u2019s conjoined bond%u201D, they do have more stories together.

And yes, a lot of the parents don%u2019t want their children to be curious which in turn causes them to want to find things out even MORE haha.
