Oscar’s odd dream

PreviousNext

*This story is based off a really weird dream I had back in 2021. I won’t blame you if you don’t take this seriously. I don’t, but I thought about writing about it anyway. This story is under my folder titled “Oscar and the ducks”. Gacha Club character designs are underneath my forum titled “My character designs<33”. So enjoy…or whatever. ;)*

Oscar closed his eyes, welcoming sleep. He had such a long day at school…

……………………………………………………

Oscar and his parents were in their car, going on a camping trip. They were on the dirt road to the campsite, gravel and rocks cracking beneath the wheel.

In the distance, a man waited for them. He smiled as they got closer, opened the car doors and introduced himself as Olivier.

Olivier loved ducks. He loved them so much. He couldn’t get enough of them.

……………………………………………………

Night had fallen. Oscar was walking in the forest, the moon shining through shaded tree leaves. Olivier had caught up to him. He wanted Oscar to be a duck, he was turning Oscar into a duck with just his magic.

But Oscar was fast. Oscar was running. He didn’t become a duck.

Then there were bodies hanging off ropes on branches. His parents were hanging off ropes on branches.

Suddenly, Oscar was hanging off a branch, feet dangling in the air, vision going blurry…

There was a way to save all those who became a duck. Oscar just had to lie in the pond and give out his human energy. It would only work if he was a ghost…

……………………………………………………

Oscar woke up in a cold sweat. He didn’t understand his dream at all. The dream started with ducks, then ropes, and ended with death.

What was it all about? Why did he dream it all? Why…

No, that wasn’t important. It was all just a dream.

The important thing was that Oscar woke up.

Hi there, vampricone! Dropping by to give you a review. I will be using the YWS'mores method to help structure my review. :)

The Top Graham Cracker: Okay... I just read the author's note and oh boy did you catch my attention immediately! First of all, I love ducks. Second, it's wild that you remember a dream you had from 2021. I can't even remember a dream I had last week LOL but let's get started!

The Slightly Burnt Marshmallow:

There was a way to save them all. Everyone who became a duck.

You need to tweak this sentence slightly, as "Everyone who became a duck" doesn't make sense.

That's the only nitpick I noticed!

The Melty Chocolate Bar This was actually really good! I'm pleasantly surprised. I was a little skeptical with the author's note, because I assumed it would be silly if it involved ducks, but this sounds like an entirely believable dream. Definitely something I've had before, where it goes from one scenario to another and leaves you briefly confused when you wake up, until you blink the sleep away from your eyes and the memory fades away. I really like the creepy aspect to this as well. It was a nice blend of silly and creepy and suspenseful!

My favorite lines were these:

Oscar woke up in a cold sweat. He didn’t understand his dream at all. The dream started with ducks, then ropes, and ended with death.

The important thing was that Oscar woke up.

The Bottom Graham Cracker: Again, I really enjoyed this! Which really surprised me! I really liked the aspect of a weird and random dream mixed with a bit of creepiness. I've definitely dreamt similar dreams, so it's nice to know I'm not alone LOL thank you for sharing!

I hope this review was a bit helpful. :)

Hey! AnotherCrowInRow is here with a very quick review of your short story!
First of all, I really like the fact that your main inspiration for writing was simply the fact that you had a strange dream. With the inspiration to write from time to time, it just happens to come from the most random sources.
The entire short story is written in short sentences, thanks to which the plot remains very fast. We start with Oscar falling into a deep sleep and then we have cutscenes of him going through a really weird nightmare...this part in particular sent shivers down my spine:

Olivier loved ducks. He loved them so much. He couldn’t get enough of them.

Subsequently, we have a cut to Oscar running through the forest from an unknown pursuer, which we immediately learn are ducks. And that he didn't escape them after all.
And with that, your short story has slowly but surely ended, and this review is also slowly but surely coming to an end!
Have a nice rest of day/night/whatever since timezones are weird and stay safe!
