Marcia Blythe’s dear love: Part One

PreviousNext

*This story connects to my “Angelic Demon” stories, which you can find underneath my folder titled “Scary-ish stories”. This particular story right now can be found underneath my folder “Marcia and Rush”. Gacha Club character designs are on my wall. Enjoy!*

Chapter One-That boy

My name is Marcia Blythe and I am sixteen years old. I’ll always be sixteen, no matter what. All because of a boy.

I guess I should start from the beginning.

It was May 28th, 2017. I was coming down with a fever. I didn't think my fever was a big deal even though my throat hurt like crazy. However, the nasal voiced seventy-two year old nurse at my school who refused to retire begged to differ, so I was sent home.

Once I was home, Mom and Dad checked on me and took care of me, like the good parents they were. My little sister, Luna Rosa, stayed in her room, watching her paranormal shows. She used to believe in all of the paranormal, from what I remembered. We all used to laugh at her, but if only I had listened…

No. I have to continue.

I was in my room, piled by blankets. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t talk.

Then, a shadow slinked up to me. It looked like a shadow at first, but then it became a young boy around my age with pale skin, murky green eyes, and dark red hair. He was dressed in a doctor’s uniform, and was unbelievably handsome.

He clenched a white claw around my throat. I couldn’t scream.

Chapter Two-He took me

I watched as a golden light left my mouth and flew to his body. He still choked me, though, light leaving my lips and entering him. His eyes seemed to hold frustration and sadness.

After a while, he let me go. His claw was shaking furiously, his eyes were teary.

Then, he took me in his arms and the next thing I knew, the world around us had disappeared into a melted landscape.

Chapter Three-His truth

“What’s going on?! Where are you taking me?! What do you want?!” I asked. The boy was running in the woods, still carrying me in his arms.

“I’m not human. I’m a night creature. Part vampire, part demon. My name is Rush. I need your soul to gain back my wings so I can go to Hell. If you listen, then everything will be alright.” Rush said.

“Listen?! Why do I need to listen to you?” I asked. He didn’t hurt me yet, but he could at any time.

Rush sighed haggardly before speaking yet again:

“Someone from my past did this to me. I’m not proud of what I’m doing, but I have to do it. It’s the only way.”

“I’ll only take a little bit of your soul. You won’t die. I promise.” Rush said.

As I lay in his arms, letting my sickness send me to sleep, I trusted him. It was right of me to trust him, but only circumstance brought both of us to doom.

Chapter Four-The dream

I was in a garden, where many were celebrating a party together. The sky was navy blue with speckled stars, and in that moment, I knew that I was dreaming.

Rush was dressed in a suit, black wings blooming from his back. He sat on a bench next to a girl around his age, with curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. Her dress flowed in white, she wore a matching, jeweled tiara. She was the epitome of angelic.

“Rush, you’re going to marry me, aren’t you?” The girl asked.

“Yes, Elestia. I am. However, there’s one thing that you should know.” Rush said. His eyes darted left and right nervously. He took high, gulping breaths.

“Don’t be so frightened. I’ll always love you, no matter what.” Elestia said, putting a comforting hand on his claw.

“I-I-I…I’m a night creature. Part demon, part vampire.” Rush said.

“You’re a night creature?” Elestia asked, a note of anger in her sweet voice, drawing back from him.

“Elestia, please. Don’t let this change what we have.” Rush said, trying to reach out to her.

“What we had doesn’t matter anymore, because you lied to me!” Elestia yelled out. She placed her hand on a black stone that pulsated with red, bloody veins. The crimson glow flowed up her arm to her face, just like how a bit of my soul flowed to Rush in gold.

“Elestia-“

Rush didn’t finish his sentence. Elestia pushed him to the ground, a burst of red light leaving her hands and flying onto him.

Rush screamed, the sound strangely like a wounded animal. His wings shriveled away into dust, blood seeped from his back.

“May you be bound to this Earth forever until you take the soul of an innocent. Let your evil eat you out and reveal the world what you truly are!” Elestia cried out.

He howled in pain, shaking like a leaf. He looked so weak, so small.

But no one helped him. Not one person at the party.

I tried to touch him, but then, it all disappeared in a burst.

Chapter Five- Priscilla’s presence

I opened my eyes to see that Rush was still carrying me, that we were still in the woods. My heart beat with the same shock I felt from the dream.

“Did Elestia curse you?” I asked. If what I dreamed was true, then I should talk to him about it, right?

Rush stopped walking. The air went heavy and still with thoughts and worries.

“How do you know that name?” Rush asked, his voice shaking with fear.

“I had a dream about what I think happened to you. You were at a party, with Elestia and-“

“She cursed me. The love of my life, stealing my own wings.” Rush said.

He looked down at me, green eyes full of sorrow.

“You must be a witch, like her. How else could you have that dream? You’re special, uh..uh…”

“Marcia. My name is Marcia.” I said.

“You’re special, Marcia.” Rush said.

I didn’t believe him then, but his words were soothing when I felt my fever bring me into a headache and the trees were too high.

……………………………………………………………………………………….

After a while of walking, Rush lay me on the ground, the sunlight blaring in my eyes. Someone stood over me and put their hands on my stomach.

My headache was fading away, my vision was becoming clear…

“You’re healed. I healed you.” A voice said.

The voice belonged to a girl who looked to be about fourteen, just like Luna Rosa. She had long, purple hair and the same pale skin as Rush, only, she was dressed in a gray shirt and black skirt, and her eyes were yellow instead of green. She also still had her black wings.

“I’m Priscilla, Rush’s sister. You must be…”

“Marcia. My name is Marcia.” I said.

“She’s going to help me get my wings back!” Rush said happily.

“Does she want to help?” Priscilla asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yes! Yes, I do!” I said, sitting up from the ground. I had energy, I could move. Rush needed help, I’d give it to him. If I were in his position, I’d appreciate the effort. So why not help him?

“Are you sure?” Priscilla asked.

I was sure, I didn’t like that Priscilla kept questioning me.

“Yes, I’m sure.” I said.

“Okay then. In order for you to extract some of your soul essence and transfer it to Rush, you have to get enchanted glitter from our cousin, Trixie, and the carcass of a deer, a prey of the wild. With the glitter sprinkled onto a deer, then he’ll have his wings again.” Priscilla said.

“That’s it? That’s all we have to do?” I asked. I couldn’t believe that it was that easy, and as for Rush’s facial expression, he couldn’t believe it either.

“I’m the one who actually knows about spells, unlike a certain red-haired boy.” Priscilla said smugly, glancing at Rush. He went burgundy with embarrassment, but he didn’t say anything.

He only told me to follow him.

Chapter Six-Glitter girl

“So, are we looking for the dead deer or Trixie first?” I asked, taking care not to go astray. I wanted both of us to be safe and sound, away from harm.

“Even though we’re in the woods and decaying animals are ever so prevalent, finding Trixie first is easier. The girl loves glitter. In fact, her skin is glitter.” Rush said with a lighthearted chuckle. I laughed with him too, because even though it was a mere few hours, it felt like centuries since I laughed.

Suddenly, Rush stopped. He turned around to face me.

“Marcia, I’m sorry about what I did earlier. I hurt you when you were already at the mercy of your sickness. I try my best to be good, but I need your soul. By nature, I’m not good either, so it’s been a real battle…If you want me to take you home now, then I will.” Rush said.

His eyes held raw, true regret that only lingered in someone who had lost everything. I wondered if there was more to his story, but I didn’t ask.

“No. I said what I said. Let’s go.” I said.

I would have wanted the same help if I were in his position, anyway.

On we trudged.

……………………………………………….

After a while, a Victorian style yellow-painted house that appeared to glimmer became visible to us.

“That’s it. That’s her house.” Rush said.

“No kidding. It is covered in glitter.” I remarked with a grin. I had never seen such glitter before, honestly.

We both laughed before we headed inside.

……………………………………………….

Every surface had a touch of glitter. From the tables to the walls, I had to shield my eyes.

Behind a pile of towering books there rose a girl who was brighter than a star. Her hot pink hair had specks of gems in it, her green eyes, a lighter color than Rush’s, were wide with wonder or insanity, I couldn’t tell. But from her head to her boots, she shimmered just like the jewels of royalty.

“Are you going to do what you said you would at the Halloween Ball?” The girl asked, pointing to Rush.

He rolled his eyes and said:

“I was joking, Trixie. All I said was “Imagine having my eye! I didn’t mean literally. Goodness, can you stop asking me about it?”

I took a step back. Trixie wanted to steal his eye?

Rush squeezed my hand reassuringly, but it wasn’t like he was going to make me forget that Trixie JUST SAID she wanted to steal his freaking eye.

“We need some of your glitter for a spell.” Rush said.

Trixie jumped up from behind the pile of books. No, she didn’t just jump. Like a predator, she leaped from behind the book pile and latched onto Rush’s uniform.

“Give me your eye, Rush. All I want is one. Give me one!”  Trixie shrieked, clawing at Rush’s face.

It happened in a blur, but I remember it all. I kicked Trixie, Rush flicked a bit of glitter off of her face.

We ran like the wind, Trixie chasing after us.

Chapter Seven-Strange creatures

“Did we lose her?” I asked in between pants. Trixie’s screams and shrieks weren’t heard anymore, but I didn’t want to take any chances.

“Yes…we did.” Rush said.

Both of us ceased to run. I wondered if Luna Rosa and my parents were looking for me, if they had already put up my missing posters. No, that would be ridiculous, wouldn’t it? It had only been a day, right? No put up missing posters in a day, to my knowledge.

Rush took out a small bottle from a pocket in his uniform and placed the sprinkle of glitter that was on his finger into the bottle.

“One down, one to go.” Rush said, sealing the bottle with a cork.

High-pitched, nails-on-a-chalkboard cackling screeched in the woods. Me and Rush froze, paralyzed by the sound.

“If I’m right, then we’re about to fight clown birds.” Rush said.

“Clown birds?! What in the world are clown birds?!” I asked.

I’ve heard of demons, I’ve heard of vampires, I’ve heard of witches, but I had never heard of clown birds before.

“They’re birds with clown faces. They’re not natural. They have to be people cursed by a witch in order for them to exist. The only way to save them is to kill them, so that they may rise into Heaven. If anything, we’re going to be doing them a favor by killing them, but still…they’re nasty to deal with.” Rush said with a shudder.

“I think that Trixie must of cursed them when she was bored. Yeah, she must have done it…” Rush trailed off, for his words had become meaningless.

From out of the woods came the ugliest, most fright-inducing things that I have ever seen in my life.

Four black, leathery, featherless, eyeless, bird-creatures with wrinkled clown faces and frizzy colorful hair flew towards us, cackling madly at a joke neither of us understood.

Two small clown birds flew to me, two big ones flew to Rush. I punched and flailed at them, but they bit eagerly at my skin, desperate to get a taste of my flesh.

I didn’t give up, though. Even as I thought about all of the demons Luna Rosa talked about, the demons that would continue to bite until they won, I fought on until my nails sliced their throats, until they lay dead at my feet.

From their leathery bodies came golden lights that flew to the sky. Were the souls within like me or did every soul look like that? I didn’t know then.

I looked over to Rush, just to check on how he was doing. His face was covered in blood, as was his doctor’s uniform. His two clown birds lay dead just like mine, only slighted more mangled. He panted heavily, his sharp teeth had pieces of flesh in them.

I saw the results of what he did, yet I stayed.

Chapter Eight-Doing something good

We walked on without disturbances of any kind for some time. I rambled to him about my life, he listened patiently. I probably shouldn’t have said anything at all to him, since I just met him, but he didn’t feel like much of a stranger to me. We spent a good deal of time together, he deserved to know a bit about me.

“What are you going to do once you get your wings back?” I asked.

“Huh. When I get my wings back…I might just stay in Hell with Priscilla, for good. She needs me. I have to be there for her. I haven’t…”  Rush trailed off, faint tears in his eyes.

He needed a subject change, so I said the first thing that came to my head:

“What about your parents? Are you going to see them again?”

“They’re not around anymore, Marcia. I’m a demon vampire, remember? An abomination, a freak. Did you see what Elestia did to me once I told her? Why on Earth would you think that my parents down in Hell would be spared? Compared to them, I got a year’s worth of candy.” Rush said. He didn’t sound furious, but a tad numb.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know.” I said. I thought that his parents would be waiting for him with open arms, that they worried about him since the day Elestia changed his life forever.

How wrong was I.

“It’s alright. It’s not your fault. You’re going to save me, after all. Then, I’ll take you home. I’ll be good, just like how doctors are supposed to be.” Rush said.

His uniform, did he want to heal? Did he want to help? Did he want to be like Priscilla, who banished my fever with just a touch?

“You are good. You didn’t kill me. Heck, you carried me when I was sick. If anything, you’re kind.” I said with a smile.

“Not true, but thank you for trying.” Rush smiled half-heartedly.

Eh. We’ll work on it.

Chapter Nine-The spell

We spoke more on thoughtless, euphoric snippets of our lives to keep away all terrible thoughts, until we smelled it.

The stench of rotting, spoiled, death.

Right in front of us was the corpse of a deer, flies skittering in a frenzy over the deer’s pitiful, half-eaten body.

“Well, let’s get cracking.” Rush said, cracking his knuckles as he did so.

We walked up to the deer, me fighting the urge not to throw up. It wasn’t the sight of the deer that bothered me, with its bugged-out eyes and bloody rib cage, but the smell. The smell fouler than that of expired food, of thrown garage, of fresh cheese.

Once we were close enough that I had to actually swallow my vomit down in my throat, Rush sprinkled the glitter on the deer.

At first, nothing happened.

Then, I felt the essence of the deer that had been used and abused being transferred to my body, making pieces of my soul docile enough to travel to Rush, to give him power.

It felt like my fever, but more blissful. I was giving pieces of myself to him. Pieces of my love to him. I was at his mercy.

Of course, it wouldn’t be that easy for us. I should have known better then.

Chapter Ten-Surprise, surprise

“I’m surprised that a human actually wants to help you, Rush. I thought that you’d die alone.” A sweet voice said from behind us.

Me and Rush turned around. I already knew who it was, but I didn’t want to say it, just so that it wouldn’t be true.

Just like at the party, there was Elestia, as deceivingly angelic as she was the last time I saw her.

“Marcia loves me. Marcia cares about me.” Rush said, his voice faltering. I don’t think that he fully believed his own words back then, but I don’t blame him.

“Oh? You love this monster?” Elestia asked, looking to me as though I had the significance of an ant.

“Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. Everyone is valuable, no matter who or what they are.” I said. I was not going to let Elestia decide how I felt about the boy who carried me gently when I felt like sinking away.

“Well, if you love him so much, how would you like to be with him all the time?!” Elestia sneered.

Before any of us could react, Elestia raised her hands in the air and pushed Rush into me. Only, he wasn’t himself when she was using her magic on him. She somehow turned him into a mahogany ball of a soul and pushed him into my body with just her hands. When she was done with that, she spun herself all around until she was a blur of white, until she had shrunk into that of a flying weed, and even that eventually disappeared. But me and Rush, we stayed. The spell that we fought so hard for to work didn’t have time to come into fruition, because Elestia had appeared out of the blue to squash all that we had planned for.

I felt him within me. I felt his terror, I felt his woes, I heard his voice.

Like the demon he was, Elestia put him in my body. He would possess me, from time to time.

Just like that, all in a day, his burdens had become mine.

Hello Again, My Friend!

It's me, Raven, and I'd like to review the next chapter in this great story using my Familiar method! Let's dive in, shall we? Heh heh heh...

What The Black Eyes See...

I spied yet another set of intriguing characters, and a story in the green room, and I couldn't resist ~ This story was great! The sense of danger and fear as Marcia is initially taken by Rush had me uncertain, but as it gives way to a story of their growing bond as they try to help each other, things were very nice. Then it all came crashing down in a spectacular twist! Let's get into the details though.

Where The Dagger Points...

I found nothing to put here this time. Nice writing job ~

Why The Grin Widened...

First, I have say that I loved the intro. Short and sweet, and covered all the bases. Told us the pretenses, the character's typical life, and gave us that perfect, subtle clue with the mention of the paranormal-obsessed sister. And of course, the sudden appearance of the boy caught me by total surprise!

I was also surprised by the "monster's" following demeanor. Not aggression, not a wicked sense of satisfaction or enjoyment, but frustration and sorrow. That immediately drew my interest.

“I’m not human. I’m a night creature. Part vampire, part demon. My name is Rush. I need your soul to gain back my wings so I can go to Hell. If you listen, then everything will be alright.” Rush said.

A hybrid of vampire and demon? That sounds AWESOME! His motive is intriguing, and that last remark that everything will be okay -in unison with his sorrowful reaction to the attack- only convinces me that he is not as villainous as he sounds. I like that ~

I also especially loved the dream moment. The angelic Elestia, cursing Rush as his wings disappear and bleed, was a moment of such sorrowful heartbreak, and there was something eerie about everything disappearing as Marcia tried to tap him.

“Yes! Yes, I do!” I said, sitting up from the ground. I had energy, I could move. Rush needed help, I’d give it to him. If I were in his position, I’d appreciate the effort. So why not help him?

I enjoyed that Marcia was willing to help Rush after coming to learn more about his situation, and being able to empathize with him. Even after hearing what the process would entail, and being given the chance to go back. It's easy to see that, just as Rush truly cares about treating her well, Marcia truly cares about helping him. Sweet ~

there rose a girl who was brighter than a star. Her hot pink hair had specks of gems in it, her green eyes, a lighter color than Rush’s, were wide with wonder or insanity, I couldn’t tell. But from her head to her boots, she shimmered just like the jewels of royalty.

Once again, I also have to give you big props for character design! I love everyone being described here, and Trixie especially sounds so unique! Which fit her character, given...her character XD Speaking of designs, you gave me new nightmare fuel with those clown birds, and I mean that in the best way ~

That ending was incredible! As Marcia and Rush start the spell, I was thinking there would be a happy ending, but what a plot twist! The notes of Marcia describing her vulnerability, giving pieces of her soul willingly and standing up for him to prove he has value; that was all very sweet, you really nailed the romantic vibe between these characters. And likewise, you nailed the sense of defeat and tragedy as Elestia ruins it all for them, and how Marcia feels now that she's "inhabited" by Rush.

Our Mad Thoughts...

Overall, I loved this story, can't wait to catch up! Nicely done! :D

Review

Hello friend!
I saw your work in the Green Room and figured I'd check it out!

Per my interpretation, this was a fun little story that makes me very excited for Part Two!

Marcia is taken from her home while she is ill by a boy named Rush, who is only really doing it to help himself. He takes her to the woods, where they meet Priscilla, who cures her fever and tells them what they need to get Rush's wings back. So, Rush and Marcia go on an adventure to get what they need, but just before they can finish the ritual, Elestia comes from nowhere, cursing Marcia and forcing Rush's soul into her, causing her to feel everything Rush felt.

This was a very exciting story for as short as it was, and I enjoyed it very much!

If I could offer any sort of advice, it be to use italics more sparingly. I feel like, especially in chapter 4, you overdid it just a little bit, putting entire paragraphs into italics when I feel like it would have the same affect in normal text.

I know chapter 4 is a dream and therefore different from the rest of the text, but I feel like after establishing that it was a dream, it could have reverted back to normal text.

Then again, the more I look at it, what you did starts to make more and more sense, so at this point, I don't really know, which is why this is just a suggestion, and it's always up to the writer, so please take this criticism lightly and know that I mean nothing negative by it—only trying to provide a somewhat useful critique.

If I had to pick my favorite part, it would definitely have to be the way you showed Rush's character! You displayed who he was very well and made him a joy to learn about throughout these chapters!

The first thing that really stood out to me related to Rush's character came in chapter 3, when Marcia was in Rush's arms, being carried away, and yet was still so calm and collected because of what he said. You said,

As I lay in his arms, letting my sickness send me to sleep, I trusted him. It was right of me to trust him

This did a great job of showing who he really is and the actual vibe he gives off, even though without this part, up until that point, he seemed quite creepy and scary. It also made him a bit more intriguing... Like, if Marcia trusts him after what he just did to her, there must be something really special about him, and I love how this is implied, so good job with that!

Another thing that I really enjoyed in relation to Rush's character happened in chapter 6, when even though Rush needed Marcia to get his wings back, he still respected her and offered to take her home if she wanted to go back. You said,

“Marcia, I’m sorry about what I did earlier. I hurt you when you were already at the mercy of your sickness. I try my best to be good, but I need your soul. By nature, I’m not good either, so it’s been a real battle… If you want me to take you home now, then I will.” Rush said.

His eyes held raw, true regret that only lingered in someone who had lost everything.

This showed how truly kind and calm-spirited Rush is, even with the implications that he is a demon vampire, which you wouldn't imagine to be too nice. This carries on to the end of chapter 6, when Rush is trying to reassure Marcia and you say,

Rush squeezed my hand reassuringly, but it wasn’t like he was going to make me forget that Trixie JUST SAID she wanted to steal his freaking eye.

He was trying to keep Marcia calm even though he was a little freaked out himself, once again revealing his composed nature. And the story did this in a way that makes him sort of seem like a savior in a sense, which I think is really cool, and you did great work there!

The final thing that truly stood out to me that related back to Rush's character comes in chapter 10, when Rush's soul was pushed into Marcia and all of his pain truly came to light. You said,

I felt him within me. I felt his terror, I felt his woes, I heard his voice.

He was so polite and level-headed the entire chapter, you never would have guessed his true problems and pain. This makes him seem like an even nicer character, seeing as he was hiding most of that from Marcia, so kudos to you for writing it that way!

Overall, this was a really great story, and I'm sincerely looking forward to Part Two! I hope you get that up soon! I'll definitely be back when you do!

Thank you for taking the time to write and post this, and I hope this review is of some use to you!
