Spoiler
Pieces of my heart are around the world
One where the midwest meets the south
and the east finds the west
One where the forest meets the mountains
and water is a friendly neighbor
All of us twined together through words
the written English language, strong
enough to unite, despite the distance
It was as if God knew we needed each other
because we aren’t meant to walk
this life alone, like how the bees
need the flowers and the flowers need
the sun—we laugh with one another
like schoolgirls on the playground
as if real life isn’t so demanding
They remind me what it’s like to be human
to be young with life in my lungs, but
even if we never get to chat outside
of a café in the autumn wind, pieces
of my heart remain with them—I thank
God for the blessings of friendship
even from miles and miles and miles away
Proverbs 27:9
Oil and perfume make the heart glad,
and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel
