The Plague of Procrastination

PreviousNext

Don’t you ever feel useless?

Lethargic, jobless.

Or is it just me?

Making promises to myself

That I don’t keep.

Making fruitless decisions

I fail to fulfil.

A truckload of responsibilities,

Expectations, absurd accusations,

Taunt me as I run away.

Wishing to be immersed

In my own fantasies.

Avoiding the hurdles that come in my way,

By not acknowledging their presence.

How long will this go on, I muse.

Demeaning my every step,

But to no avail.

'I'll start tomorrow', I say.

Hoping for a beam of inspiration

To pull me out of this endless cycle

That has trapped millions.

Or is it just me?

Making promises to myself

That I don’t keep.

Making fruitless decisions

I fail to fulfill.

Wow. This was fantastic. I definitely feel like you've written this from pure feeling; how you feel, put onto paper. I LOVE that! Well Done! :D

Jeez. I love how in-your-face this is. It really makes you think about it and how many times you've actually done it. In fact, I think it's my biggest sin. I procrastinate on almost everything that I do and honestly it's really irritating. I'm trying to get out of it though some habits die hard I suppose. Anyways, I also love how realistic this is! Who hasn't done it? Fantastic job my friend! -IceWinifredd

This is exactly how I feel right now. Thank you.

I am so guilty of being a procrastinator, so I absolutely love the fact you chose this as a topic to write about. I don't see anything wrong with this poem, so I can't do much a review, but let's just target the parts that are absolutely beautiful:
I love how you repeat the "Or is it just me....I fail to fulfill" stanza, but also love how you only did it twice so I doesn't become too repetitive.
Your word choice is amazing, you go beyond just everyday words and I really like that.
I also love the fact you took an everyday situation and turned it into a poem that DEFINES the very title.
If you could please write poems like this that are based off of actions and emotions towards those actions, I'd love to see them!
Thanks for posting this on YWS, I really love it.

Ahaha aren't we all. ;) Thank you so much!

Hello, so I think this poem is really relatable too many people as we all get burdened with a 'truckload of responsibilities,' as you mentioned. On the first line, I personally like how you ask the reader:'don't you ever feel useless?' This is because it's blunt and grasps the reader to see how you expand on this. I also love the metaphor:'taunt me as I run away' because this enables the reader to really picture how you feel when under a continuous set of expectations that follow you. To improve I would personally express some new points or make the poem shorter because 'promises to myself that I don't keep,' 'making fruitless decisions I fail to fulfil ' and 'avoiding the hurdles that come my way' is a bit repetitive. I do see that you may simply want to emphasise a point but the poem can get a bit tedious. Except from that, I was glad to see a new topic being explored in a poem and would love to read some more relatable pieces of yours!

Before I say anything else- Thank you. Thank you for expressing that pain we victoms feel every day. This epidamic seems unstoppable, and maybe together we will be more capable to overcome this Plague.

On a more professional note, I liked how honest this piece is. It's build in a way that screams 'Tommorow'. It's built visually in a way that acts like the struggle in your head, trying to grab a feather from the distant wings of inspiration.

One thing, I would love to see that speaker, taking a stand and breaking the cycle somehow, kicking down the first domino in a social evolution of some sort.

Naturally you want the speaker to defeat this situation because you want to believe you can defeat it yourself- "If it has been done before, it could be done again".

I would love to see more things from you, as I'm sure it will only get better and better.

Hi! Sarah here to review this amazing poem. This really pulled me in, because it perfectly illustrated the art of procrastination, which I myself, admittedly, partake in when it comes to homework. I really enjoyed reading this, it really speaks to the reader. I illustrates a point that people don't really think about. Well, at least, they don't where I come from. This is a beautifully written piece. It flows, and there aren't any hiccups that would interrupt the message of the poem. Even if the reader didn't understand what the poem means, they would still enjoy the poem.

The only thing I noticed was that when you use fulfill for the first time in the poem, you forgot to put the last 'l' on.

Keep writing! I'd love to see more!

Oops! I didn't even notice that when I proofread it. But THANK YOU SO MUCH. :)
