Thousand Yard Stare

Hate, tragedy, death and despair

He'slived through it all in less than ten years

His eyes tell his story

Through his thousand yard stare

He's got all of the war in his eyes

You can look straight through him

And tell he fears life the way

Others fear their own demise.

It seems there's so many who could help,

But it's as if no one cares

After all, the world is too occupied

With its own affairs.

I really thoroughly enjoyed reading this. It has the potential to have a tune put to it, it could have easily been put under poems, but it is definitely melody worthy. This is also very eerie, I enjoy the feeling it creates. You did a wonderful job. I also really like how you ended it, the reader/audience is put into suspense expecting something more, but it is always fun to make up your own ideas.

I like this. It's so haunting, and it describes perfectly the way a thousand-yard stare looks. Have you ever seen someone who was actually like that? because i have. you nailed it right on the head. It's also so tragic that the kid is a 10-year-old. I also like the last stanza. I look at the way we conduct charity, from the third-person, of course, and I feel that way, though I am not actually a victim.

Heyhey :)

So I'll go ahead and do some reviewing :P
I liked the poem , it was very straight forward and carried a good message. Horrible memories hunt everybody for ages especially when you have seen too much as a kid. It's a good topic to write about and I wish you would have taken it further. It kinda feels like you just left it there hanging but the reader wants to see a full though, an ended idea so they can give their full opinion on it. If not out loud then at least unconsciously. But in general it was a good poem :) I really like the title of it , makes you want to read the poem. And it was worth reading :)
