Who am I?" The question I've never quite answered...until now

Such a simple question no? But the answer, well that's another story. All my life I had thought that I had all the answers until that faithful day when someone plainly asked me, "So, who are you exactly?"

Slightly startled by this unusual yet "fairly simple" question I began by stating my name, nationality, education, hobbies et cetera. My questioner however did not seem satisfied with my answer and remarked that the answer to this question resided not on the surface but rather much deeper inside of me.

After a few moments of thinking I decided that I would relate life stories and speak about what I feel and what I believe...

"I am the girl who declares that love is over rated but cries bitterly when the princess finally finds her prince charming.

I am the girl who gets furious for the slightest of things but cannot resist smiling within five minutes.

I am the girl who uses wit and sarcasm to stand up for what she believes in but stays up nights worrying if her comments were perhaps hurtful.

I am the girl who faces blood and injuries with a straight face but allows the stress of a spelling test to result in nervous breakdown.

I am the girl incapable of making anything from ice to Arabiatta pasta but my flowery speech and my ability to advise others usually seals the deal.

I am the girl dedicated and focused at school but among friends and family I have genuine trouble figuring out what material silkworms are responsible for.

I lie under pressure and am honest in the calm. My clothes are mostly repeated but my shoes never are.

The opinion I value most is my mum's but when someone else isn't happy with me, it pricks me in the most painful of ways."

She seemed silenced and I felt victorious until this time she remarked that all of these were parts of me but she wants my answer in simplicity. After some time I decided to switch off my brain and give my heart a go at answering...

"I am a girl- I feel angry and sad, my emotions consume me but when I am needed by loved ones, my strength empowers me.

I am a teenager- I succumb to pressure, I react irrationally, but at the end of the day I find my way.

Mostly: I am a human being- I make mistakes, I am the icon of imperfection, I do stupid things but after admitting my weaknesses, my world accepts me just as I am."

Curious to see her reaction I look up to find my questioner wearing a smile, her hand stretched out and four simple words leaving her mouth, "Glad to meet YOU"

Oh, this was such a great feel-good piece.

Just want to mention a few things that caught my attention.
The first line that says "Such a simple question no?" requires a comma. Like this:- "such a simple question, no?"
Secondly, I think you mean "fateful day", not "faithful day."
The other thing is in the second paragraph, why is "fairly simple" written in quotation marks? Are you quoting the person asking the question?

Other than these little errors, no complains. This line made my day - "I am a teenager- I succumb to pressure, I react irrationally, but at the end of the day I find my way."

Short and simple, thought-provoking and relatable. Well done!

This was very insightful. Many people don't think about this just because it hurts their head, I like that you thought about it and wrote about it. The ending line was very good and very final, the perfect way to end this story. This shows just how much power words have as simple as I and You. Keep up the good work.

Okay, so this is good, I get the point you have here! It's great!

I like stories with a point! They have a twist that others don't, they have something that just gives me a great feeling when I'm done with them. But this isn't technically a story I guess, more of a discussion, huh?

But, the thing is, at the end of the day, your answer is sadly wrong.

Those things you put in there are pretty common place, I bet one out of two (If not more) teenagers would fit this description to a dot! But that isn't you! You may be that on the frame, but inside there's more detail, something that makes you different and special. Not just anybody. No two people are the same. We all have differentiating qualities!

You just have to find them.

Also, people have this annoying habit of changing over their lives! They change over time, and it's kinda hard to pin down who/what they are!

What you do, what you are, and how you think are all parts of who you are. No matter what you say! They are who you are, your decisions are from you! They are you!

I don't think anyone but god can pin down exactly what we humans are individually.

It's a kinda hard task!

But! Great work! Enjoyed!

Keep writing!

Hey, Zawaa! StoryWeaver, here to review.

"Such a simple question[[,]] no? But the answer [[-]] well[[,]] that's another story. All my life I had thought that I had all the answers until that faithful day when someone plainly asked me, "So, who are you exactly?"

As an opening paragraph, this isn't particularly compelling. It lacks any real "hook" to peak the reader's interest, and beyond that, it's just a little overdone and bland...too much like something that you would write begrudgingly to complete a school assignment and less like a creative article.

"Slightly startled by this unusual yet "fairly simple" question[[,]] I began by stating my name, nationality, education, hobbies et cetera. My questioner[[,]] however did not seem satisfied with my answer and remarked that the answer to this question resided not on the surface but rather much deeper inside of me."

Did you really start naming off your technical background? I find that a little odd, or at least unorthodox. While I would probably be thrown of by the question as well, that seems like an unnatural response (save, perhaps, the hobbies and "et cetera").

"After a few moments of thinking I decided that I would relate life stories and speak about what I feel and what I believe..."

So again, I find this hard to believe. You went in depth on your life stories? All of them? It'd probably be better to clarify the relevance of the things you finally decided to tell this person, as opposed to vaguely stating that you related "life stories."

I really like the idea behind elaborating on the things that follow; if someone prods me, I'll typically say, "I love rainy weather, loathe hand-bags, and my favorite color's red but when people ask I say it's green." And while I think that the little things are what define a person, I think you kind of introduce it in an odd and (again) unnatural way.

So these last parts weren't any less artificial for me. They're great lines and concepts, but they're presented in a way that doesn't make them feel *real.* Give us a little more detail on this person you're talking to, give us a backstory as to WHY she's prodding you this way, and more on how you felt when you were telling her this.

This was an endearing piece, and it shows a lot of promise; just make sure that you give enough information and detail to make things flow in a realistic way. This was a lovely article. Keep writing, and best wishes. xxx

This was beautiful. Really, I'm happy that you found who you really WERE and the simplicity of it was amazing. I can't really bring myself to review this.
