What Am I?

I dance in the night when all is dark

But you dare not touch me or I'll leave a mark.

I slither like a snake up towards the sky

But I'm not alive and you'll learn why.

I can destroy most anything, though I'm small

For I can spread and grow quite tall.

Keep me confined and I'll stay good

Giving off a bit of light, as I should.

What am I?

Once a few people guess, I'll tell the answer!

Okay, before I get started on the review, I'd like to make a guess. Is it fire?

I love your rhyming in this poem, and your great vocabulary. One thingI noticed was your lines. I think you should spread them out into different stanzas, which will make it seem more organized.

Other than that, your poem was beautiful and cute. I think you should do another What Am I? poem. You should definitely continue writing things like this.
I love how you wrote:

I slither like a snake up towards the sky
But I'm not alive and you'll learn why.

I think that stanza was really creative with "I slither like a snake". For a suggestion, you should keep doing metaphors and similies.

Hope to keep reading your works,

Yes, it's a candle. Dang, I wrote this about three years ago (but posted it about a year ago) so I never thought I would ever get more reviews on it, but hey! Thanks for your suggestion and review! :)

No problem. :D Glad I could help.

Hello dear wolfie!!

This is Eros!!

I loved reading your poem. It was a riddle and the question was put very nicely. I had a hard time thinking about it. First I though it was a firefly but when I read the second line I got to know that I was wrong.I moved forward.I thought it could be a fire for it grows and spreads. But then I thought it would be a candle because it slithers the flame like a snake up in the sky. And I got confirmed when I read the whole poem.

It was very good and it made my bain do some exercise. It was really composed nicely and the answer remained a suspense throughout the poem.

I loved the poem and I want more riddles to solve...So keep writing because we love reading them.

Aww, thanks for reviewing this, Eros! I'll get to something of yours this weekend, too. Thank you so much!! You're pretty smart to figure it out like that. :)

Fire! I liked this a lot it was really nice and awesome. I loved your imagery as you gave the clues and how it was just beautiful to read. My favorite line was this, " I slither like a snake up towards the sky" I liked this because of the imagery, you didn't just say I burn into the night you gave it a nice simile.
Although judging by the answers below it seems my guess was wrong but no biggie it was till fun :D
Keep up the fun in your writing and May the odds be ever in your favor.

First: this is a nicely written poem. Each line flows well and sticks together well. And I think it's so cool that you have us readers doing a guessing game!

As for that object: well, I think it may be coal. Then again it could be a firefly. But, fireflies aren't dead... So I think it might be coal, tar, gasoline, dust, or a ghost.

It makes sense: coal can destroy things once set on fire or thrown in multitude at a person's face. It can also destroy the environment once burned. It can leave a black mark on your skin if you touch it. Once burned, it slithers like a snake toward the sky. Once on fire, the smoke from it can grow and spread, and make light.

Great guess! Thank you for your comment; I really appreciate it!!! No, it's not coal, but after you explained it it DOES make a lot of sense!

Haha! YAY! :D

Hmm I think its virus or disease?
Well done poem. it left me wondering. it could only be so many things.
I love the way it rhymed. And it being a riddle made me want to read it even more.
I would have loved to have more info to help me have more options but if this is the way you meant it. closed and just enough to think then its perfect. I cant wait to read more riddles from you just because I love this one.
Thanks again keep up the good work :)

Thanks, Awesomesauceness! Love your name :) No, it's not a virus or disease... Next time I'll write an additional stanza or couplet so you guys can figure it out more efficiently!
