Blind - Chapter 15

E - Everyone

In Blind

Jason and I stayed in our room the second day. Jason because he was grounded and me because I didn't want to go on anymore rides. Not after the Teacups ride that my father had called calm.

I promised myself to stay away from Jason, though. I was on my bed in Sheila's, Mother's, and my room, and Jason was in the room next door. My fingers were running over crisp sheets of Braille Mother had brought with us on the plane. I wondered what was written on them. I couldn't read Braille yet, but Mother promised she would help me before school, then I would go to a special class during a period called elective and learn Braille there.

I was nervous and excited for school. What if there were bullies there, and someone beat me up? Or maybe lots of people would be nice to me and be my friend. What if I couldn't bring Mousse? The school would certainly approve of that, wouldn't they?

Right as I finished a sheet of the weird bumps, I heard a knock on the door. From the other room, not the door to the hall.

I sighed, and laid my head back on the pillow. "Come in, Jason." I knew I was breaking my promise, but he wouldn't hurt me. Hopefully.

The door opened and footsteps walk somewhere near my bed and Mother's bed.

"Look, Ember, I'm sorry," Jason says, sounding pretty uncomfortable, and I wouldn't blame him.

I roll my eyes, which probably looks really weird, but I've just heard Father say, "Don't roll your eyes at me!" to Jason and Sheila, so I thought it would be appropriate. Most of the time I keep my eyes closed, because they seem pretty hideous, according to my family. Jason doesn't say anything, though, when I open them. I close them back.

"You probably just want to go on the rides," I pointed out.

"No. I actually am sorry."

Then I heard him huff, and the door slammed shut. He was gone.

Disneyland ended up being a fail, and I had managed to keep it in for the whole time we were there until the last day, when we were packing up.

It slipped through my mouth and out into the open air. Mother, who was packing her clothes, slammed her suitcase in anger. At least, in anger or frustration or some other emotion of that sort.

I pressed my lips together tightly, and my whole body stiffened. Oh God, why did I say that, why why why! I thought, as I knew any minute now I would get in trouble.

Sheila, who was also packing, made a sort of gasp-groan sound. Of course, she hadn't thought that it wasn't fun. Everyday we spent in Disneyland she brought home balloons (that were supposed to make me happy) and souvenirs.

"Ember, we spent lots of money to get tickets for the plane, then bought for Disneyland. Do you know how much that cost?!" Mother said.

My fingers prickled, like they would if they fell asleep. "Um, a lot?" I said.

"Yes, it did! I know you didn't have a good time but—" Mother was raging, and I was afriad she was going to explode. Not literally, but explode as in get super mad and maybe even ground me.

"Oh, Ember." Mother left out a sigh of exasperation, and a squeak of a mattress told me she had sat on her bed.

"Um." Sheila said nervously. "I'm gonna—I'm gonna check on the boys."

She left and I was alone with my mother.

"Honey, I'm sorry you didn't have a good time, I just thought maybe you would like it..."

"It's okay, Mother. Really. You can stop worrying about me, at least for now." I replied.

And she believed me, because even when we were on the scary, stomach-flipping plane ride home, she didn't ask me if I was scared. I just squeezed Sheila's hand and slept the whole time. Mostly, though, I was thinking of big, chocolate, Mousse that I would get the be with in a couple hours.

Hello! It's me, back for more. ^^ sorry it took me so long.

Anyways, onto le review.

Jason because he was grounded, and me because I didn't want to go on anymore rides.

The comma isn't necessary.

I was on my bed in Sheila, Mother, and my room,

However skinny the girls may be, I doubt all of them fit on one bed and since most hotels come with two beds, you should add that in. Also, this is worded strangely. I feel like there's a better way you can say this. Tinker with it.

and someone beat me up?

Beats*

Alright. I know I've pointed this out before, but you have a tendency to use commas when they aren't needed. I don't know how many times I've pointed this out in each of my reviews o_o Please please please read some articles and learn when to/when not to use them. Otherwise, I may just keep pointing them out because they annoy me when they're in the wrong spot. x)

But other than that, I'm enjoying this so far. It's nice to see that Jason has finally finally apologized and owned up to what he did. Although I am annoyed with the scene altogether. I mean, if he's gonna apologize, he may as well stick around and see what she says. It seemed like he was in a rush to get out of there.

I'd like to point out that Ember doesn't really use her other senses and seeing as how she's been blind since birth, it isn't very realistic. She should be able to read people by their tone of voice and understand emotions better since she can't see the looks on people's faces. While I'm glad that she isn't a blind, helpless kid that stumbles through the dark, I see would like to see how strong she is with her senses and how they make up for her blindness.

This is getting good so far. It sucks that Ember didn't enjoy Disneyland :/ but at least she got the chance to go. She did come off as ungrateful with that last comment and made me mad but eh, she's a kid. One day, she'll realize how fortunate she was.

I'm curious to see how you're gonna write her summer -- if you're gonna drag it out or time-skip. I guess we shall see. Off to read the most recent chapter!

Thanks!

Anyways, thanks for reviewing! :)

Hi there!

So sorry it took me forever to get to this. I saw the noticfication and then completely forgot about it. So sorry :(

Anyway, onto the review.

I really like how you focused on Mother a bit in this chapter. It was nice to see her emtions and her view on things, even if it was just getting upset at Ember. It's a nice way to get the rest of your characters to come front and center now. I feel like we're really starting to get to see them more often.

There really isn't anything else I can say about this chapter. Gosh, first I come late for a review and now I can't give you a good review. What's wrong with me today?? Back to the review, I like where your story is going. It seems like you have a definite path that you are following and you're sticking to it. I give you two thumbs up for that.

Let me know when the next chapter is out! I will definitely not wait 17 days to review next time :3

Keep writing!
**Noelle**

Ha, it's all right! And actually, I just published it!

Hello, Zontafer here to review your chapter!

Nitpicks

I was on my bed in Sheila, Mother, and my room, and Jason was in the adjacent room.

Sorry for being a little picky, but you used 'adjacent' in your previous chapter. It may be because I just read it, but I'd still suggest to write something like 'the room next door'.

It slipped through my slips and out into the open air.

What exactly slipped? Maybe I'm just stupid.. xD
OH, I see! Perhaps you could make this a dialogue tag?

...I was afriad she was going to explode.

Afraid*

"I'm ganna—I'm ganna check on the boys."

Gonna*

Everything else
I liked the fact that Jason came back and finally apologized for what he had done. It was about time!

And her mother raging at her. I think her mother didn't really think through it all, as Ember is blind and have her other senses improved, she would of course be scared!
Poor kid.

Not much to say about the techical stuff, cause that would only be repeating myself from my previous reviews. ^^

Tell me when you get more out!

- Zontafer

Sure!

And thanks! xD I don't even get my second nitpick ... I'll go read it over. :P

I realized it was 'Disneyland was a fail' haha

Yeah, just fixed it :P

Chapter 16 is up!

Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.
