The Terrifying Camps; Memories of a Dead Man

E - Everyone
As he lay in his bed,
In the dead of night,
Fear had formed in his head,
As he wondered, "Would everything be alright?"

Then a pounding at the door,
Like a knife, cut through the silence.
As he lay down in the floor,
He could sense the soldier's presence.

The footsteps, slow and heavy,
The black boots at the edge
Of his bed, he clasped his hands together in prayer,
Feeling like he was on the ledge.

Death by hunger overtook,
Death by thirst was often.
Bodies of the dying shook,
Bodies of the dead lie rotten.

The stench of decay spread through this place,
The people sickened by it.
Fear and pain showed on their faces,
And they melted away, bit by bit.

Three years now, have gone to waste.
Death took many,
More times than not, with great haste.
Now death is upon the man in our story.

As he started, on that night,
Laying in his bed,
Wondering, would everything be alright?
While fear filled his head.

As the many who came before him,
He prayed for a quick death.
For anything was better,
Than living in this place, praying with his dying breath.

Now in death, his eyes have closed,
In eternal sleep.
Angels grab his hands, outstretched,
And bring him up for his god to keep.

His soul now is resting,
Up in heaven,
But down below, his friends still praying,
For his ordeal on earth has yet to end.

His body, all skin and bone,
Was dragged along the ground.
His body, un-alone,
Thrown in a pit, while his friends gathered round.

The people now have been saved,
Many survivors now dead.
Souls of people, death and torture have braved,
Faces, hands, feet, and bodies, stained crimson red.

Now in respect and silence,
We honor those who died,
In this time, we feel their presence,
And the tears that they have shed.

Now, in ending, I can finally say,
Bless the souls that were saved that day.

Himelli hello. Well I have to say this is awfully grim and gruesome. Go
However, the way it is written is another story. Despite the depressing part it is very well written. The words you used here, they just flowed so well and created a plethora of emotions.

The internal rhyme scheme was also impressive work. It made sense, it was not forced and it was both heart breaking and heart touching.

Your words were rough but they really did add to the story. I think you did a phenomenal job conveying and depicting a dreadful event here. It was almost as if you were there. And that, my friend, is impressive.

Hey little author here,

I thought this was a very beautiful and powerful poem. Just like what misscaroline said, I'm learning about the holocaust in history right now. I think that this was very deep and very sad in all the best ways. I liked how this isn't a usual topic but you seemed to cover it well. I could geek you had background knowledge on the holocaust and that you understood it to the fulliest. I really loved this poem.

Keep writing 8)

Thank you for your comments! It means so much to me that y'all like my writing! :)

This was a very good poem, and it's not on the usual topic. And I like that. There was only one thing wrong. And it was just a typo.

In the first stanza you need to put a space between in and his. That is all. This is really well written. And I plan on reading more of your work.

Thank you for informing me of that! I fixed it! and thank you so much for your input! you have no idea how much it means to me!

This was a very powerful poem. I have just got done with my Holocaust learning section in school, so I have more of an understanding on this topic. I really liked how everything flowed. It was very easy to read. I also enjoyed the description you put into this poetry. Everything fit nicely and it was filled with emotion. I really enjoyed this poem and the word choice you used. Good job.

Thank you so very much! I'm so thrilled that you liked it! I know that I cried when I wrote it...and I liked learning about the haulocaust...but at the same time...It made me sad...and I didn't...but I decided to write this to be able to see it through someone else's eyes rather than my own and also to express my respect andd sorrow for those who had to go through the living hell they were put through.

I have my books and my poetry to protect me.
