I am the Writer

E - Everyone

As now I set myself much like a statue, I am a shell.
None like the birds of the morning, my thoughts are set back.
And yet I write.

Picture this, cruel ivy strung across a building,
strung across me.
Of the prolific rooms such a building can hold,
how many are locked?

I write to right my boredom and such fatigue I carry,
but will it be enough?
Will I be enough?

When words fly down to the vast, white canvas, holding empty beauty prior,
I am the water that chooses what washes away.
I am the sun that scorches these words forever and more into the stage,

I make my audience bravo.
I am the writer,
I am the courier,
I bring the words to the gracious and hungry,
as well as to the vengeful and greedy.

I am the savior to the lost looking for a home of inspiration,
I am the prophet beholding news from the man upstairs,
I am the great.

But also the pretentious.

I am the vengeful,
I am the greedy,
I am the sun that drives away the water,
I am the clouds that hide the scorching sun,

I am the bravo, the desperado,
I am the devil, lurking to strike,
I am the horrible.

I am the one, and I am the all,

I am the writer,

I can write when I can't anymore,

I speak the truth.

I sort of hated it in the beginning and then I grew to really, really like it.

I don't have many problems with this, because it shows off what writers really are. There's little romanticization here--writers can be fucking awful people, and I should know. I think the reason we empathize with everyone so well is because we're a little awful and a little good; we understand bad people because sometimes they remind us of what we could end up as, and we understand good people because they also remind us of what we usually want to be. But ultimately, writers don't really live on any side of the spectrum. They're very plainly a gray sided creature.

Some problems I had:

-"I make my audience bravo." Maybe change it to I make my audience cheer, or something along those lines. Just a stylistic choice.

-"But also the pretentious." No. No criticism here. Just very much true.

Happy Review Day!
Ruro here to review!

Wow, what a powerful message this... gives us! You know, this poem is about 100% true. Writers are kind of like god to characters, we shape their world. It's kind of odd to think about it that way, eh? What if we're just characters in a story?

Anyways, sorry to ramble.

The only thing I felt was strange was the second line in the first stanza:

As now I set myself much like a statue, I am a shell.
None like the birds of the morning, my thoughts are set back.
And yet I write.

Not sure what you meant with that, or maybe I'm just really tired and not clearly understanding the message? Not sure :/

Besides that, I really like it! I think this is a well thought out piece that really captures writers as what we are!

Well, this one is very tired and must be wandering now!

Happy Review Day!

I love it when writers explain their writing inspirations and how they feel about their own work and their audience. There was such beautiful imagery, and such passion in ths piece. I love it!
