Nightmare

Food

Just a small, simple word...

Just a small, simple thing...

But is it really?

Food

I open my eyes.

What am I going to eat today?

Tossing about in bed...

Food

Am I going to eat today?

Food

Pulling the sheets over my head...

Food

Food

Clutching the blankets in my fists...

Food

Stomach flips and twists...

Food

Should I eat today?

Food

Food

I want food...

Panic.

Food

No.

I don’t.

I really don’t.

Food

I just think I do.

Food

But I don’t.

I close my eyes...

Food

And wish myself back to sleep...

Food

But sleep never comes.

Food

Hello! When writing poetry creativity as well as emotion are the two elements that should always be addressed first. I know this is a very personal subject and criticism regarding the writing (not the content) should be expected when posting your works, so please understand my standpoint. I like scheme of worming the word food, it is creative, but it is fairly over used, much like the word food. When writing with your feelings and your emotions, using a four letter and commonly used word dose not evoke much empathy. Deep, saddening, and relatable words do. But from another standpoint "food" could be effective if the poem was organized differently or shorter, but in this case it is very repetitive. Other than that the emotion in your poem does evoke my empathy, and it does so very well. You seem like your very good at expressing your emotions through writing, please continue to do so. I did enjoy the poem once I got over the food repetition, thank you for sharing.

Hey darling.

I understand that this is a very personal subject for you, so I'm going to start this review by saying that I understand where this poem is coming from. I've experienced it, I've done it. So I just want you to know that I get it on a personal stand point.

Okay let's get going.

'Food' as your reoccuring phrase is boring and by the end of the poem, quite annoying. It's not a very interesting word to begin with, and there are sooo many others you could use. Nourishment, sustenance.... Thesaruses are great in these kind of situations. And less, is most often more. You said 'food' 19 times. That's a little excessive. I understand the obsessive feel you're trying to go for; but you're not reaching it. It's just annoying. There's no meat to your poem. There's no imagery. Prosaic poetry is all well and good, but there has to be a hook. You'e repetitive the entire time, so it gets boring.

The obsessive part of an eating disorder could be translated in a much better, shorter, and more concise way. Obsession doesn't mean you can just repeat one word over and over again.
Your poem needs split up into stanzas as well. Your punctuation is all over the place. If you're going to use it, use it.

You start off your poem by directly addressing the reader, but then turn it into an internal monologue for the rest. That causes disruption which is something you don't want. The repetition of food disrupts the flow you build up, and then lose because you interrupt it constantly with the image of food.

There's a lot of things that need fixed in this poem. The one thing you have going for you is that you know first hand what this is like. I know you know how to make the obsession apparent without letting it control the entire poem.

Thanks for the input. I'll definitely keep it in mind.

I'm also not sure why but even though I normally wear cool tones I have a feeling red would have been my color in the 1860s.
