The Play!

Lights,

Camera,

Action!

You,

You are the lead,

The main role,

But also the director,

The producer!

But what of the roles?

The roles in the play of life?

Who will be your friends?

Will I be a leading role?

Or will I be an extra merrily sitting on the sidelines?

Though I see myself as an extra,

You have the audacity to name me a role...

To call me...

A friend.

It seems I am an extra in every play,

Every life,

But what of my own?

My play consists of depression and sorrow,

A lifetime of abuse and betrayal.

But it is not my wish to drown you with my problems.

I really like this poem.
I find it very thought provoking. I love acting and so when I read this it really did make me think about life and if it really is all a play?
I remember once a speaker at my church posing the idea that when you died, you and all the important people you have met throughout your life would be put into a massive cinema and re-watch your life. Of course, his point was that, in a way, that's what God does but that theory simultaneously intrigued and terrified me. I like the way you've kind of built on that idea and introduced the concept of roles in this play/movie of your life. That is something else that's always interested me, when you meet someone for the first time its funny to think that in a matter of months, weeks, years they could possibly be your favourite or most hated person or, as you suggested, and extra. Someone on the "sidelines" whose hand you somtimes catch a glance of in a shot.
Like I say, a fantastic piece of writing; keep it up!

You could use '"though" in place of "while"

Hey Retro here!

First of just want to say WOW! I really really enjoyed this and i think you have an excellent idea which you portray well. You have good imagery, good syntax, vocab, everything to make an excellent poem so well done!

There are just a few little things i'd suggest amending. I'd capitalise all the I's in the text. I don't know why it is done but it is haha :)

The line, While i see myself as an extra. While this makes sense and what not it just felt awkward to read. The first read i though it was a typo for will. I'd possibly consider revising this line as it just felt a little off compared to the rest of the poem.

Also, i'd change primary to leading. It just sounds more theatrical and i think it fits your idea better.

Other than that this is a great little poem!

Keep writing,
~Retro
