In "Cross"

PreviousNext

The evil was overwhelming, overpowering, a feeling unlike any other too strong for me to handle. Now it has been unleashed and I had no intention of trying to stop it, not even the sacred sword of the angel could hold it back.

The demonic blood had rusted it completely, retaining no more of an edge, merely a dull object to the black pool of evil.

It hath surfaced and escaped first through my eyes it felt like the beginning of a fire, my tears were no longer fallen salted rain, but a smokey shadow of deep black. The smoke starting constricting down my body like a serpent crushing their prey, squeezing out every bit of purity I had in me.

Feeling like a release, I had no more restrictions. I felt so powerful yet vulnerable. The immunity to pain seemed to have subsided with my holy aurora shield. It did not matter because I wanted to feel pain it fueled me, hydrated my bloodlust. The sacred symbol upon my face, thy holy cross, was the only part of me yet to be tainted by the black serpentine smoke.

It slithered its way slowly back up toward my torso rounding about my shoulders, tensing waiting for its strike. Then a deep fiery burn burst upon my face.

The pain was so excruciating I let out a sharp yelp as I tilted my head back while my hands were contorting savagely trying to keep my composure, I could no longer stand the scarring burn.

I clawed at my face with such agony it felt as if my skin was ripping off with the single stroke I had made, as I did this the light of purity carved upon my cross was lifted it evaporated faintly into the air.

The black smoke made its way in front of my face now, it looked like a cobra ready to strike at me again, and as quick as a lightning bolt… it did.

Not even my reflexes could have avoided it. It scarred upon my face I can feel the etching affixed to it. The unholy serpent was rebuilding my cross only it was no longer saintly. It was now the wretched indication of Satan…

I managed to regain my composure as I slowly bowed my head touching my chin to my chest, clenching my fists feeling the thick satanic blood slithering through my veins.

I was taking in this new feeling how different it was to me, I no longer felt any emotion for anything, and all I cared about was revenge, retaliation… murder.

My son, you have delved into an evil that I have always feared you will one day submerge into. Your mind is twisted with vengeful insanity. This is too much for me at the moment and I can’t bear to see you in this state of disparity and anguish. Because of this level of impurity, it is repelling me from being your angelic guardian. I will now be reduced to but a ghost drifting by your side. Find the strength within yourself to reverse this inversion, through the trials of doing so, you will find much difficulty the first time around but I have faith that you will prevail none the less. I love you son…

My mother’s final words disappeared faintly out of my conscious, like the falling scream of a person final moments plummeting to their death.

How dark my mind was, everything I viewed was tainted black, the walls within the room seemed tighter and tilted and felt like a thousand eyes were glaring at me.

I rose my head back up toward the beautiful infant, I cried within myself once more not being able to handle seeing the unjustly massacre. I saw the rosary I had given her the day of the baptism beautifully placed at the foot of her crib. I sank my hand under the saintly symbol slowly to grab it, in doing so upon contact my palm began to burn and smoke began to summit toward the ceiling.

I whimpered silently, not in pain but in fear in just how far I have let myself go. I clenched the rosary with such force my hand began to bleed profusely. My blood painted itself around my hands and wrists but on the rosary it was much more satanic. The blood appeared to be revitalizing the wounds on the hands, feet and head of the messiah, and I swear the more I crushed it the more I felt like I was actually choking him, making him relive the horrible pain he went through tenfold but still incomparable to mine.

Hello, again. I've come to read the second part of your story thus far.
I shall review as I read (as the spiel goes...):

The evil was overwhelming, overpowering, a feeling unlike any other too strong for me to handle. Now it has been unleashed and I had no intention of trying to stop it, not even the sacred sword of the angel could hold it back.

Since this is the first paragraph I am going to point out the errors. After this I won't be nitpicky about grammar because you have a good grasp on it, obviously.
I would put a comma after "any other" because there is a slight pause. Also, you wrote "has", but I'm guessing you mean "had" because otherwise the verb tenses would not match.
You have such vivid language throughout this piece. It's definitely your strongest trait as a writer!
The paragraph beginning with "my son" should probably be in italics or something like that in order to differentiate it. You do explain that those are his mother's words in the next paragraph, but until then it's a bit confusing, especially because the reader has no idea who is talking and the tense changes abruptly.
Please continue this. This is really good and I would enjoy reading more!

Thank you for the review im glad you enjoyed it. :)

This is so darkly amazing, I was crying by the end. I can't believe how much emotion you put into this. It's just over-flowing with juicy description and wonderful sentence structure, and horrible emotions, it's just simply put, beautiful, in a dark, deadly sense of the word.

I noticed that you do often switch tenses, something that I do quite alot. It takes a while, but it's easy to fix. Just check your verb form.

Like the reviewer below you said, you should consider putting the mom's last words in italics. It would just make it clearer and make more sense.

Happy Review Day!

Wow...really dark, this one. The narrator has a strong voice and you gave solid description of his transformation. Here are a few things I noted:

1. Punctuation: There are lots of places where the sentences could have done with a comma, or a semi colon. For example, "It did not matter because I wanted to feel pain it fueled me, hydrated my bloodlust."
2. You could consider Italicizing his mother's last words. I wasn't sure who was speaking for a moment.
3. Tenses - you switch often. Is that intentional?

Otherwise, nicely done

This was very dark and I loved it. I loved hearing the voice of the main character. Your writing is quite beautiful, sort of poetic really. I greatly enjoyed this!

Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
