A Fool's Gamble

PreviousNext

"Would you gamble a 5/10 for twice the amount, or a 4/10 for thrice the amount? It would be gambling, but imagine, five out of ten people win the twice gamble!"

No. It would not be worth it. Not one bit. Where were the ones to die out in a gamble? Where are the fallen soldiers that lost this war? Where are they sitting now in the world?

That's what they don't tell you. It's a survivorship bias. Five people winning sounds like a lot, but chance is not relevant to amount in most ways. In reality, even if it were completely relevant, one out of two people would lose. It's just a trick to convince you it is in fact worth it, as a man once said: "A wise man has experienced many different bad things, but only a fool experiences the same thing twice."

If what you really seek is luck, make an effort. An effort will always make a difference, no matter the chances. All efforts have a guaranteed output, a finish line. And when you finish your effort, that's all your promises of doing an effort amount to. Whether you like it or not, you should know that the bigger the effort, the bigger the difference. And remember, all you can do after an effort, is wait your God's answer.

Ah, what's the point then you ask? If you read the title correctly, you already know the answer.

Heyy...Rooke, hope you're having a great day. I am writing my thoughts here, hope it helps though I am not a experienced writer

Okayyy...coming to the story, When I first saw the title, I thought the story would be about addiction, but after reading it, I realized it’s more about life and the role of luck. It made me think about how luck isn’t always on our side, but putting in effort is what really counts. Even if you lose, like the "fallen soldiers" mentioned in the story, you gain valuable experience that can help you later.

I believe that even though luck may seem hard to come by, those who keep trying will eventually get lucky at least once. Story tells that with persistence and effort, things can turn around. While luck might not always be there, the lessons we learn along the way are important. I’m holding onto the hope that, maybe in the future, I’ll be lucky too.
Overall it's short and sweet.

Hey Rooke, an interesting short piece, and I like how you brought it back to the title right at the end. My favourite line was this one:

Whether you like it or not, you should know that the bigger the effort, the bigger the difference.

It's an interesting idea that you can make a difference to luck through effort. I kind of see them as separate things, but I do see the point you're making.

Watch out for your use of numbers vs words for numbers. You've used 5/10 and 4/10 in the first line, and then immediately switched to 'five out of ten'. Try to pick one way of showing this and use it consistently :)

Hope this was helpful
