They say I'm a good person
Because I laugh and I smile
And I must admit
It's been like this for a while
They say I'm kind
Because I constantly apologise
But that's only because
A few years can make us wise
They say I'm sweet
And it's all too much
I know that I have never
thought as such
I have my flaws
And I just don't agree
It's my opinion
And opinions are free
It's not self loathing
It's just this I'm afraid
That I'm a bad person
And of this I shan't be swayed
We all like to acknowledge our flaws sometimes, and when you're on a rant you don't appreciate being told that you're the greatest person to exist (because you're not). Well, at least I don't!

Hi there, just stopping by to leave a few thoughts for Review Day!
So Stanza 1
I like the premise you're starting with, this is kind of a unique subject that I haven't heard a lot of people writing about - so kudos to you for that.
I think that the reason they think that the speaker is good is a bit odd, I'm not sure people really think others are good because they laugh. But I could be wrong.
I liked the rhyming you used here. Doesn't feel forced, keeps the piece going.
Stanza 2
Here I think in line 4 it's really odd that the speaker says "us" because the rest of the poem just seems to be a me vs them mentality. But again I get the premise, and I think this stanza makes sense.
Stanza 3
Here the self-doubt comes trickling in more, and the reader starts to understand the speaker's being overwhelmed with these compliments that they think are false. Nicely done.
Stanza 4
I think that line two is a bit unclear because it doesn't say what the speaker is disagreeing about. They could be disagreeing that they have flaws, or disagreeing with all the compliments -- I think this should be clarified. I like the little bit of sass with the line "opinions are free"
Stanza 5
I think in line two you're missing a comma between "this" and "I'm".
"Shan't" feels really archaic compared to the language that's used in the rest of the poem. Maybe switch to "won't"?
Overall
Overall I liked the form (clear, consistent, clean) and I think the message was also interesting - it was well thought out and clearly developed throughout the piece. As a last suggestion, I would love to see a bit more figurative language in here, but I really liked the piece as a whole!
Best of luck in your future writing,
~alliyah

Well! It is a well-bred balladry. My main concern is not to add more pessimistic approach in your poem. Shoe some optimism. Albeit, the title of this poem explained it all. But, I liked the feeling you included in your balladry.

What a great feeling you added! When i was reading i thought you felt it in your heart. It is a good poem When you add your sentiments to the poem it becomes perfect. Although every poem has some flaws. But I hope you will bring more balladries from your account to bring joy in this world.
Keep up the good work!!!!!
Hi. This is Kman134. I'm here to review your work.
At first, i thought this poem was suppose to be about sociopathy and committing heinous acts. sadly, i was wrong. This poem reflect on human nature and how we all have flaws. however, it also explores people hiding behind masks, so to not show who we really are.
the use of rhyming made the poem made it come together. the calm and serious emotional tone was very pleasant and it helped give insight on how you feel.
"I have my flaws
And I just don't agree
It's my opinion
And opinions are free"
this stanza is my favorite as it shows you accept your own vices, meaning that you are truly human. however, on the second part and third part, you should add periods to end it, or commas if you want to continue.
anyways, this was pretty good. I hope to read more.
Hello Kman134!
.
I apologise that the title or description mislead you! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to review my work. Yes, punctuation in poetry is just a major confusion to me, but I appreciate that you have pointed out. I'll edit it soon - probably
Legacy here for a review.
I love the content, I really relate to it. It's very direct and there isn't very much imagery. But there doesn't need to be any imagery.
I do love the fact that you have rhyme in the second and fourth lines in each stanza. That really brings it together as a poem. If that subtle rhyme wasn't there, then it wouldn't feel as much as a poem to me personally.
The only major nit pick is that the "shan't" in the last line doesn't match the vocabulary of the rest of the poem. I recommend either replacing the shan't or if you want to keep it, you should change the vocabulary of the rest of the poem.
That's all I got. Legacy out.
Oh, I am glad you like it! I was supposed to edit out the shan't before publishinh but I forgot !!! >< (hides in a vcc corner)
I can definitely relate with this. There was a time where I did something and everyone tries to excuse it because you appear to be sweet and innocent, but sometimes all you want is someone to yell at you for what you have done. I love this poem. It's time someone admits what we all tend to feel as human beings. Great work! I look forward to seeing post's in the future from you.
