He is always lingering in the back of my wandering mind

While I am aimlessly daydreaming with empty but open eyes,

Just as I am now,

Of places that I would rather be,

Like in his apartment between his midnight sheets,

Under his spell that he casts with a single glance,

Instead of residing in my own hell, where an eternity of nothing awaits.

Of things that I would rather see,

Like his muscular tattooed arms that grip me so tight,

And his eccentric aura that consistently screams New York,

Instead of repetitive memories that make my own mind a war zone, a savage battlefield.

Of things I would rather hear,

Like his voice that can melt even the burning sun

And the rhythm of our breathing as we shut out the world,

Instead of the taunting, amplified voices of the ghosts of my past.

And all of this sounds just fine to me.

Infatuation is what it's called,

To feel this way about someone.

To feel this way about him.

It is not an eternal love.

But it is no schoolgirl crush.

It is somewhere in between heaven and reality,

Where I let him take me as high as he pleases,

To heights that I had never before imagined,

Because I know that wherever he is,

I sure as hell want to be too.

He is the most absolute perfection that I have ever known,

And he is the only perfection that I would ever need.

If only that one thing wasn't standing in my way.

Months pass like centuries,

Time slipping by so slowly, so gradually.

But when our paths collide once more,

It's like I never left.

His lips crash into mine like a meteor hitting earth at full speed,

Flames bursting in all directions,

But the heat is bliss.

His hands grip my body as if I have a million dollars beneath my skin.

The pressure tightens,

The pain turns to pleasure.

His lips explore me as if I am foreign territory, foreign paradise.

Every inch of me vulnerable.

Every inch of me his.

And this is not love,

Or even a crush.

It is a forbidden longing for something that was thought to be unattainable.

If he is sin

Then maybe sin is right

For how could something so euphoric be so terribly wrong ?

And so he calls me a goddess,

As I rule his kingdom for the night.

My hair is gripped in his hands,

The intensity reaches its height.

But such intensity refuses to live forever.

And so the heat that was bliss

Becomes a pool of ice,

Freezing me in my last moments with him.

But I can still see the flames in his eyes.

The pressure of his body, of his hands on me is lifted,

And my body feels an aching for something.

But this ache has never been felt until now.

He has explored every part of my map,

I am foreign no more.

But I'm still his paradise.

I give him back the keys to his kingdom ,

Because dawn has arrived,

Signaling the end of another beginning.

But I'm still his goddess.

So I pick myself up off of this midnight sheets,

The early morning sun spraying the room with light.

I study the beauty of the ink his masculine body.

And then I leave, taking the night with me.

This was an enjoyable read, but suddenly it makes sense to me now why darkness sells. :)

I'm a fan of your other poems. You have explored dark territory in them. This isn't all hearts and roses either, but I personally was unable to find concrete depth in the characters. Maybe mystery was the aim anyway.

Perhaps this one time you should have gone with verses, to separate one occurrence from another.

The jist of the poem was astounding, but maybe I, for one, don't like 'desire' that isn't deeply rooted in love.

If your other poems, hypothetically, scored 4/5 or 4.5/5, I would say this one was a 3. Not because there was something wrong with it, but just because I think you can do so much better. Even with the concept of deep-seethed desire.

- A Fan.

Hey there!
First of all can I just say wow! I am in love with this piece. It is so incredibly honest but masked at the same time which leaves me with a sense of mystery and imagination.
I am a sucker for long poems, I find that they get the feelings of the writer a lot much better than most shorter poems, and that's the whole point of a poem, right?
The content of this poem is (i'm not sure if erotic is the right word but I'm going with it anyway). I really felt I knew what was going through the writer's mind; the desire and love she felt, I felt for this mysterious dream man.
I usually hate romantic poems but I have to say that this one really made something stir inside of me, I felt in love with his 'muscular tattooed arms' and his 'voice that can melt even the burning sun'.
If I had to pick at one thing it would be that putting your work into stanzas might make it easier to read but when it comes to poetry there are no real rules and everything is up to the writer (which is something I love).
Overall this was a real unique peace that I hope stays with me. Brilliant. Keep writing my friend, I'm looking forward to reading more from you!
Oh, and welcome to YWS!

Thank you so much, im so happy that you liked it! Stanzas probably would make it easier so I'll consider that with future writing. This piece meant a lot to me emotionally and I'm glad that sharing it gave you the sense of mystery I was going for.%u2764%uFE0F

Three words only from me to you;

"Lengthy but compelling"

The ending was quite satisfying. I like the idea
of her as a map. Him as a foreigner exploring her. It was
definitely romance at first recite. Love it.

Cheers!

The idea of the map was one of my favorite parts of the poem. I'm happy you agree! Thanks so much(:

Hey there NewYork! I noticed that you are new here, so I'm very excited to give you your first review! Here's my two cents:

He is always lingering in the back of my wandering mind
While I am aimlessly daydreaming with empty but open eyes

I love how you opened the piece. It's relatable (because, let's face it, we all sit there sometimes and just obsess over someone in our mind) and sets the scene perfectly for a girl daydreaming of this guy.

Then, the next couple lines, hit me like a rock.
Of places that I would rather be,
Like in his apartment between his midnight sheets,
Under his spell that he casts with a single glance,
Instead of residing in my own hell, where an eternity of nothing awaits.

I connected to these lines on such a personal level... I'm honestly getting choked up as I write this. I'll spare the details, but I was recently involved in an emotionally and verbally abusive relationship and tons of memories just flooded back to me when I read these lines. I commend you on being able to draw this kind of emotion from the deepest pit of my soul. These lines made me view the rest of the piece as a girl struggling with the pros and cons of her relationship.

The entire piece has incredible description and imagery, and through that the audience can make their own connections with the piece. I especially like the line "his eccentric aura that consistently screams New York," because you said so much about a person in very few words.

Another thing I like is how you kind of separated the piece into feelings/senses (where you'd rather be, what you'd rather see and hear, etc.).

If only that one thing wasn't standing in my way.

I like the twist you added here, but, after reading through the rest of the piece, I find myself very confused. My thoughts are that the speaker is madly in love with this boy, but something is in the way; they are very passionate at night, but when day comes everything changes. The changes seen between night and day give off the vibe (at least to me) that the speaker is a prostitute of sorts. So, I would suggest maybe adding another detail that clears this up? Of course I appreciate each reader having their own interpretation, but that "one thing" seems very unfinished.

The ending is outstanding. I love the intense description of (I'll just say it- we're all adults here) sex that you have. It's just... wow.

All in all, this piece is beautiful. I can't wait to see what else you write.

I'm so happy that I was able to draw a line of emotion from you that is hard to reach. All of my writing evokes very personal emotions, or so people have told me. Imagery is definetly my strong point so thanks for realizing. I'm sorry to hear about your past relationship but we just have to keep moving forward in life and let the bad things make us stronger, right? The "one thing" has nothing to do with prostitution in my eyes, although I didn't really explain it so its up to the reader to decide what it was. That "one thing" is what keeps them apart, and I felt it added to the mystery of the poem. I also didn't want to explain it because it gives away to much of a personal experience of mine. Thanks so much for the review (:
