Unnoticed Cracks

E - Everyone

In WhisperClouds's Creations

We carved our names in time’s soft thread,
In silent codes, no words need said.
Seven years — not love, but more,
A bond that storms could not uproot before.

But now you sit on polished thrones,
With newer voices, colder tones.
You speak, and I shrink in the space between —
Your kindness vanished, sharp and keen.

You scold me where the watchers stand,
Then brush it off with steady hand:
“I can’t be soft for friendship’s sake.”
But what soft rules did I ever break?

I never begged to be held high,
Only to stay beneath your sky.
Yet you drift like I was never there —
And I pretend I do not care.

Heyy there,
The first time I read through your poem, I thought it was about a broken love. But after rereading it really mindfully, now I understand it's not 'love, but more,' friendship.
I really appreciate how much effort you put into your poems: collecting words that rhyme, and still arranging them in a way that speaks to the heart.
More than that, I like the themes of your works (yes, I've also read your other poems), and it's not very easy to express your ideas on them unless you really try. The theme of this specific work is intimate, and I can also relate to it myself. I had a friend at primary school. When I started at a school in the city, I kind of lost contact with him. But the friendship, some way or another, kept growing inside me, and I wanted more and more to talk to him as time passed. So I looked for him, and I finally found him. But he was no longer the friend I remembered.
Love your poem <3! Great work!!

Hey, it's me again! :) And without further ado, let's get into the review! ;p

I like that the body of the poem never actually mentions cracks like the title does, so the reader is compelled to interpret the poem in light of the title. I appreciate those little things that make us actually think about the content, the themes and messages in the whole work.

Once again, your rhyme scheme is easily identifiable, so great work there. One of the biggest suggestions I often give to other people (and one that I need to work on with my poetry as well) is to pay attention to rhythm and meter. From my personal experience, I can attest to the fact that this can be hard to do when there are very specific words and phrases we want to fit in there! And at the end of the day, I am not the rhythm and meter police, and I will overlook some things if the greater sentiment or the whole poem make up for it. So don't take this as harsh criticism. (I'm always having to look up what the difference between rhythm and meter even is lol)

With that being said, the only thing that seemed off-beat to me was the last line in the first stanza. I'm not going to say you have to change it, because again, sometimes I think it's okay to sacrifice meter for the exact sentiment or wording you want. But if you're going for a stricter structure and beat, you could consider getting really familiar with how rhythm and meter are supposed to work and then using that to polish up your lines. Anyway, this is just a long ramble in an attempt to offer some helpful suggestions. :)

The third stanza made me stop and think to consider who "the watchers" are. The interpretation I came away with is that the narrator gets scolded or verbally degraded in public. But whatever the intended meaning, I really liked the choice of calling them "the watchers."

I think the last stanza was my favorite! Those first two lines just really spoke to me. "Only to stay beneath your sky. . . ." What a sentiment! I adore the imagery - sort of a metaphor, I guess. Beautiful.

Well, that's all for now! Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work!

This poem is lovely, describing how friendships change when people grow and the influence of other people.

I recently have been through a friendship breakup and its hard so I hope you are okay.

the words are beautiful and I cant find anything to really find anything to remark on, well done!

"But now you sit on polished thrones,
With newer voices, colder tones.
You speak, and I shrink in the space between —
Your kindness vanished, sharp and keen."

this really stick out to me, your rhyme is good and the way you describe how you go inward as they show their true colours is a raw true feeling that others disguise and I really sympathize with it.

this poem is amazing well done and thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your genuine words! It was actually not easy dealing with that situation but I can manage it now. Composing this poem also helped me a lot in venting my emotions.

I sense a bit of bitterness in this poem, borne from the heartbreak of someone you once knew changing, becoming unrecognizable--becoming someone that you cannot love anymore. The simple 4 stanza structure, with 4 lines per stanza, and a AABB rhyme format contributes to the firm, raw essence of the message the poem tries to convey. Seven years is a long time. The speaker needs to move on, away from the person that they once followed, as they are no longer worthy of following.
