Its Always Been You

It's Always Been You

It's you. It's always been you.

From the moment I first saw you, I couldn't stop staring. In that instant, I knew you would become my everything.

I may not be perfect, but I can't imagine you with anyone else but me. It might sound crazy, but it's the truth.

No one could ever compare to you.

The way you smile. The way your eyes shine like stars. The way you play with your hair. The way you're obsessed with boba and Malcolm Todd. The way our inside jokes become the funniest moments of my life.

The way you loved me like no one else ever could.

The way we danced as if the rest of the world had disappeared. In that moment, I caught a glimpse of my future.

You made beauty itself seem ordinary.

You made skating look like the most graceful sport in the world. Watching you skate felt like watching an angel glide across the ice.

In those moments, I found myself wondering,

How could someone so beautiful and so kind exist in this world?

With you, distance never seemed to matter. I've never felt this close to another person before. You made me feel emotions I never knew my heart was capable of feeling.

I never imagined I could meet someone so kind, caring, funny, and genuine—someone no one else could ever compare to.

You may not be as perfect as I make you out to be, but to my heart, you've always been more than enough.

The truth is, I can't picture another hand in mine, another dance partner, another person to laugh with, cry with, and grow beside.

Maybe I'm a hopeless romantic. Maybe I'm lost in my own dreams. But is it really an exaggeration to call you my forever?

No other laugh could ever replace yours, because your laughter sounds like the prettiest song I've ever heard.

And if I had to fall in love a thousand times, I'd still spend every lifetime searching for you.

Because...

It's always been you.

Hey, and welcome to YWS! Feel free to ask questions if you have any ♡

This is such a lovely poem. I love when poetry becomes such as a love letter. When it’s not just a romantic poem, but as a love letter— you’ve really achieved something deeply personal, and meaningful to you. That’s exactly what poetry should be, come from your heart.

In that moment, I caught a glimpse of my future.

I found many good quotes, this one is great. It’s as if you feel a love so strong it feels like destiny, like you know you’re meant to be with this person— exactly what your poem is about.

With you, distance never seemed to matter.

This is so pretty too. Uncertain love can often feel as distance makes a huge difference. And it’s brilliantly unique because most people would say distance matters so much, because if you were only a couple blocks away I would miss you so. But this proses something different. Distance doesn’t matter, my love for you is so strong that even if you were far away I’d still feel so much love for you. The love isn’t controlled by distance, it’s not controlled by anything. Which shows how much it really is.

You may not be as perfect as I make you out to be, but to my heart, you've always been more than enough

Lovely quote again. It tells you are very clouded with love. You paint a heart around this person with your eyes, you such a perfect person they are that flaws are unimportant. And to direct it to your heart makes it even better. Its shows you keep that person close to your heart, and your heart swells with love for the person that is more then enough for you.

The only thing I would change is maybe to give the poem some pace in— for example as it starts out as it is, then turns to something else, like a metaphor, or a different emotion then the rest— then ends with tying the ropes to the same thing you had in the start, with the last line the same as the first as you have it. It’s a way of classic poetry structure. I would love it to see it in a poem like this, yet i feel as editing it would risk losing this raw and deeply personal glow your story has. I do think it is so beautiful as it is :D I’m happy to stay close to read more of your work!

Hi! Welcome to YWS!

This is a really lovely poem. I'll be honest, when I first started reading the opening lines:

It's you. It's always been you.

From the moment I first saw you, I couldn't stop staring. In that instant, I knew you would become my everything.

I may not be perfect, but I can't imagine you with anyone else but me. It might sound crazy, but it's the truth.

I thought this might be a kind of dark romance, or something stalkerish! But as I kept reading, I realised that really wasn't the case and that this was a really genuine piece of romantic poetry that has a raw, heartfelt vulnerability running through the core of it.

I think the strongest lines are the specific ones, like how this person loves boba and Malcolm Todd. It shows that you/the narrator really care about this person and understand their likes.

One piece of advice I have is that you shift tenses a bit. You start out in present tense,

The way you smile. The way your eyes shine like stars.

As though you are writing about an ongoing love or romance, but in a few places you shift to past tense

The way we danced as if the rest of the world had disappeared.

It does work, but I think sticking to writing as a present romance, or a reflection of a past one, might make the piece even stronger. It also feels a bit more like lyrical prose than poetry, which might have been your intention, but playing with space, stanzas and lines could make it stand out more as a poem!

Overall, a really lovely poem. I hope you post more in the future! Keep writing :)

For in everything it is no easy task to find the middle ... anyone can get angry—that is easy—or give or spend money; but to do this to the right person, to the right extent, at the right time, with the right motive, and in the right way, that is not for everyone, nor is it easy; wherefore goodness is both rare and laudable and noble.
