Time to write a
poem now.
I should make sure not
to follow any rules, 'cause
freeverse 'rulez' bruh.
No paragraphs to
find,
no structure here to follow,
just prose in lines,
without proper rhymes,
and rhythm left us has.
And what to
write about? More
edgy,
stupid,
overdone topics that no longer even sting.
Maybe a political
message that
borders extremism.
'Cause all 'art's' ought to
have a message these
days.
And for the sake of being
different,
I end up being all the same.
I think line breaks
are cool.
But why I make them, I
really dunno.
They serve no purpose, but,
everything's art nowadays,
so fok the haters, right m'lad?
My poetry's legit!
'Cause freeverse 'rulez.'
The people call, "amazing work!"
or perhaps, "I really loved this poem!"
And dare not they point out its flaws,
for cowardice from vanity they hold.
No rhythm, no structure,
just prose in lines, I say!
Let us all forget those rules,
that draw a poet's charm in day!
For rules are for those old men,
who all restrict our sorrow!
By vers libre now, I say to thee,
let's make a dark tomorrow.
So wake up! Wake up from the ash!
Brothers, sisters, rejoice in poets old!
Why must all be freeverse now?
Who has this foul lie told?

Hello there person that finally understands me. IvoryRose here for a review! I can see that this is a more sarcastic poem, and I agree with your message. I am so sick of everyone dictating what art has to mean. You can write a deep poem, but not all poems have to be about the same deep thing. I personally am a fan of free verse and use it a lot, but I know that it’s not the only way to convey a message. My only critique is that poetry has always been classified as art. After novels came the debate started on whether it’s literature or art. Most of the time it’s classified as both. Great job!
Hey thanks. Finally this can leave the Green Room, eh?
And of course. I definitely realize that poetry is and always has been considered art. Poor phrasing on my part.
Hi, I really liked your poem. I think that putting "edgy" and "stupid" on their own lines was a good choice to make them stand out, but the latter should probably be replaced with something more specific, with a certain connotation rather than being so general. Although it was a nice change to spice things up, I thought that suddenly switching to writing in verse in the middle of your poem was strange, and didn't really make sense to me as a reader. In the beginning, I thought you created a good sense of irony by writing in free verse to complain about free verse, and felt that changing to a classic ABCB rhyme scheme only disrupted it. But at the end, I like how you started putting exclamation marks, and that you ended with a question to keep the reader hanging, as if caught up in your sort of rant. A question prompts the reader to think, which was your goal, and I think you did a good job of that. Great work!
Haha, thanks for the review. The sudden change may have been a bit odd, totes agree on that. I wanted to first show the type of poem I don't really accept too openly, and then the sort that I much prefer. Probably should have made it a bit clearer, seeing as I don't like it either when a message is too vague.
Honestly? It wasn't much more than a rant.. I felt like criticizing something, and free verse was on my mind at the moment.
But hey, I'm glad you found enjoyment in it.
You really don't need that big disclaimer
in my honest opinion. It kinda defeats the purpose of satire.Yup, I'd think so too, but I don't want a barrage of unpleasant looks coming my way, especially since free verse is quite popular 'round these parts.
Then again, writing satire comes with unpleasant looks. I'll remove it.
