What is Love?

PreviousNext

What is love?

Is it something that you read about in a book and long for yourself to have?

Is it a manner of fiction wedging its way into our lives?

Is it the infliction on our lives as we know it only to be ripped away in a flash faster that the speed of sound?

Or is it just our selves finding the one who understands the way we want to be touched, tickled, held, and the way that they put themselves before others?

Love is the one thing that no man or girl will ever be able to describe.

Here to review your poem!

Personally I really think spacing this in traditional lines would add a lot to it. You have some good ideas in here about love, but it doesn't seem completely finished. It seems like it could maybe be expanded. Also in the last line maybe "girl" could be changed to "woman" to be consistent. Great job on your first post though, it's an interesting subject, that like you said maybe there can't be an answer to.

Good luck on your future works!!

Hello!

Rurouni here to review!

Interesting poem. I like it. But I have some nitpicks.

Is it the infliction on our lives as we know it only to be ripped away in a flash faster that the speed of sound?

Okay, that should be than. And the speed of sound is slow. I'm just putting it out there XD. Light travels faster. But sound is fine.

Or is it just our selves finding the one who understands the way we want to be touched, tickled, held, and the way that they put themselves before others?

our selves is one word, ourselves. I don't think the last part, "and the way that they put themselves before others?" Really flows, it just is sort of choppy, its a good idea, but it doesn't really flow.

I have another suggestion, you said, "that no man or girl...." I'd change girl to woman, or man to boy. You have a mature person, and a girl who is normally a kid.

I liked this.

Always...

Hello! Retro here for a review! And it seems your incredibly new so I shall wish you a hearty hello on behalf of our little community!

First i'll do a few nitpicks, then talk about what I liked, okay? :)

'that you read about in a book '

I feel as though your about here over stuffs the sentence and it would have a better flow without it :)

'Is it the infliction on our lives as we know it only to be ripped away in a flash faster that the speed of sound? '

I don't think the 'as we know it' makes sense in this context. I feel as though you mean something else so I'd suggest a quick revise and see if you could find something more suitred, perhaps something like 'which we know will be ripped away...'

The other thing I want to mention is that you can obviously do imagery, but I feel as though for a piece about poem you should maybe try to bulk it out. When you talk about questioning love you can have so many powerful images. Especially as you mention fiction with the piece, so you could even intergrate it! 'Is it a manner of fiction wedging its way into our lives? The way in which we crave Mr. Darcy on a white horse, galloping through the pages as our fingers slide beneath words' Obviously, that isn't fantastic because it is made up on the spot, but I hope you see what i mean:P

Onto what I liked my dear! Well I liked the idea of fiction being wedged into our lived, because we do all identify with people in literature. We all do want a beautiful relationship which we read about, and it is an idea which is not commonly done so well done for that! I also like that you ackowledge it is an infliction, sort of a doubled-edged knife. You've got something short and sweet, and it's cute so well done!

With a little work, i'm sure it will be great!

If you need anything, do not hesitate to ask!

You know, I like this. I don't think it necessarily follows any poetic scheme at all, but it's still good. You say that love will never be able to be described. That, I agree with. When you find that Certain Someone... you just know.
It's real. Love, I mean. It builds dreams, fills the air, and can ruin lives forever.
Keep it up, and read the other reviews. It'll guarantee a better writing style.

Thanks. I try to use the everyday problems in life and show some of my own opinion. :) Also, I like your opinion on love too, and I totally agree with you.
