embodiments of emotions (prologue)editied

Heres a story im working on. I've edited it abit. Please tell me what you think and also correct my grammer(Big Time). Lancelot Knightly

The night was dark, dense moisture in the air. A light fog covered the ground floating about concealing the paved road. The streets of Solar were empty and given this time of night they well should be.

Leave her, sighing he recalled his masters dreadful words.

Strolling down the castles main road Vallen felt a barrage of emotions. Greif began to consume him at the mere thought of what he must do.

Why must fate be my enemy?

The castle huge in size was of white brick and red roofed. Unlike other neighbouring castles the De Soria had no shield mounted around its walls, no moat from keeping it from being besieged. If attacked it would easily be breached. The king had removed them years ago, signifying the everlasting peace he achieved for his people. Thankful for the king’s gift of an effortless passage, he looked up to the sky. Two towers branched off each side. The east was where his beauty lay. Two guards stood watch at the main gate while each corner had a sentry guarding his area well.

“Not as well as the king would think,” he said with a grin.

Keeping to the shadows he made his way to the east side of the castle. Like clockwork the sentry strolled away but would return minutes later. Now was his chance. The tower six stories in length proved no match for him as he unsheathed his hooks and slowly began to climb. He heard a ruffle down below. Looking over his shoulder for a sign of the guard approaching, he paused for what fell ages. Relaxing when nothing came into view, he continued on.

How will I survive the night?

Moments later

Holding her hands in his he asked, “Do you fear the future?” His eyes began to mist at the thought of where his future would take him. Alone

Needing to see her one last time he came to her quarters in the dead of night awakening his beauty. Overjoyed she leapt from her bedside to greet him near the window.

“What happen?" She asked stroking his trembling hands with her thumbs. She gazed into his black eyes and was lost in his abyss.

Staring into her eyes he saw the concern she had for him. Never in all his life had he seen such a sight.

Please survive this.

Moving away Vallen turned his back and closed his eyes trying to fight the growing tears awaking in his hazel-green eyes. The room grew silent as the two struggled to control their uneasy emotions.

Sophia could not speak. She knew he was in pain, yet there was nothing she could do to ease him.

Fear the future? She struggled to understand. She didn’t know what he was talking about. In all her twenty years, she knew where she was going, what to do, even what to say. It was a gift and a curse her father had bestowed upon her. He had laid her life on a silver platter and said follow. Never once had she thought to question it.

Clutching her chest with both hands she wished to ease his pain, to take it upon herself. What was making him fear the future so? Reaching her arm out she touched his shoulder giving it a light squeeze.

He was …cold. No longer did he have the warmth she felt when he first entered her quarters.

Fear struck her as she noticed he had stopped trembling. She felt a wave of loneliness so deep she thought she would drown in it. Guilt clouded the sky above darkening is blue beauty, the earth below turned to sea. A storm raged before her as she sunk below its surface desperately fighting to rise. She never felt such lost before. Blinking her eyes rapidly, she came back to reality with a greater confusion than before.

Long ago she learned how to sense emotions. With a single touch she could see hazy visions, the embodiments of emotions. Tears swelled in her eyes. God how she wanted to ease his suffering.

Finally the silence broke.

“My life will be forfeited”, he said in a low voice, so low she doubted he said anything at all. “Yes my fate is inescapable.” He started for the window.

Sophia began to panic not understanding his cryptic words.

“Please wait,” she cried out as her tears began to fall. “I don’t know what’s causing you to feel such sorrow but please let me help you. You don’t have to be alone anymore,” her voice broke off at the end. She tried to wipe her tears but it was no use his pain was too much to bear.

Turing around to face her Vallen averted is gaze hating himself for causing her such tears.

“It’s too late. I’ve ...we’ve run out of time.”

“No-no please talk to me. I’m here for you,” she sobbed clutching her chest, taking a step closer to him.

Looking up he saw her tears and felt a joy he knew he shouldn’t have. Yet how could he not when heavens angle no his angle cared so much for him. Her delicate body, long brown hair, and honey eyes would haunt him for an eternity. How could he tell her he must abandon her in order to save her?

Love is forbidden. It distracts, corrupts, and sully’s the mind. You are of no use to me with such rubbish. Leave her or she dies. He still recalled his master’s anger, begging him to let it be.

Anger burned within him at the acted he must do. But there was nothing he could do. He was chosen and neither fate nor his master would relinquish him his freedom.

Moving closer he embraced her one last time savouring the way she felt in his arms. Her hands still clenching her chest, he felt her tremble with fright. Whispering in her ear he said the words she cherished most.

“I love you.”

Holding her tight she melted in his arms. A river of sorrow flooded down his face. He knew breaking away from her would destroy her.

Better her alive with tears.

Releasing her slowly he staggered back unsheathing his hook, latched it down and slid downwards escaping into the night, not daring to look back.

Hey Lancelot!

Interesting beginning! I like how it dumps us right in the conflict... it's a good thing and I'm glad you're not waiting around for anything! :D

One of the thing that confused me though was the setting. I wasn't sure what time this was set in or who was standing there, talking with each other, or what they looked like... I basically couldn't picture the story! So you're definitely going to want to add some details. You don't have to use purple prose to do this, really. A couple of well-placed descriptions of where they are standing, what time of the day it is, and so on, placed in the narrative would be wonderfully helpful in this case. So definitely tweak it a little.

Thanks for posting!

But answer me this: how can a story end happily if there is no love?
